What is Netgalley? / ¿Qué es Netgalley?

Hey guys, how are you today? Do you have plans for this week already?

When I think about those who really want to read, there's a site I always think about the next second, a site on which they can find free legal readings in exchange of reviews. This site is Netgalley, and that's what I want to talk about today.

We all hate piracy, and despite I understand why someone would commit it (I'm the first one to admit I did it when I couldn't afford books,) there are still options to avoid this. Netgalley is a site designed exactly for those kind of cases.

After you create your account, all that's left's to select the genres of your preference and explore which titles are available to review, all of them for free. As easy as blinking! Some of the books will disappear after a certain period of time, so you better have the chance to read them, and since it is up to the publisher to approve (or not) the files for you to download, select books you know you'll read so your feedback ratio doesn't go down.

Also, consider downloading Adobe Digital Editions to read them, or Bluefire in case the files don't work on the first program. So far, I've had just a couple of issues, but they're not worth the worry compared with the good times thanks to Netgalley.

You can say that many of my actual readings are taken from there and that I will review them as well, most likely on my channel. And of course I hope you give this site a chance! Right now it is only in English, but I've seen a couple of titles on Spanish, so maybe that will change in the future, who knows. ^^

Cuando pienso en aquellos que realmente quieren leer, siempre hay un sitio en el que siempre pienso al segundo siguiente, un sitio en el que pueden encontrar lecturas legales gratuitas a cambio de reseñas. Este sitio es Netgalley, y de eso es de lo que quiero hablar hoy.

Todos odiamos la piratería y, a pesar de que entiendo por qué alguien la cometería (soy el primero en admitir que lo hice cuando no podía pagar por libros), todavía hay opciones para evitar esto. Netgalley es un sitio diseñado exactamente para ese tipo de casos.

Después de crear su cuenta, todo lo que resta es seleccionar los géneros de su preferencia y explorar qué títulos están disponibles para reseñar, todos ellos de forma gratuita. ¡Tan fácil como pestañear! Algunos de los libros desaparecerán después de un cierto período de tiempo, por lo que es mejor que tengan la oportunidad de leerlos, y dado que depende de la editorial aprobar (o no) los archivos para descargar, seleccionen libros que sepan que van a leer para que su radio de reseñas no disminuya.

Además, consideren descargar Adobe Digital Editions para leerlos, o Bluefire en caso de que los archivos no funcionen en el primer programa. Hasta ahora, he tenido solo un par de problemas, pero no valen la pena en comparación con los buenos tiempos gracias a Netgalley.

Puede decir que muchas de mis lecturas actuales proceden de allí y que las reseñaré también, lo más probable en mi canal. ¡Y por supuesto espero que le den una oportunidad a este sitio! En este momento solo está en inglés, pero he visto un par de títulos en español, así que tal vez eso cambie en el futuro, quién sabe. ^^

Musical Friday / Viernes Musicales: Living for Love (Madonna)

Hello people, how are you today?

I admit this entry is being written in a rush, it is almost Friday here in Venezuela, but the important thing is to do it. So, thanks to my crazy schedule, here I am, in the middle of the night, fighting against sleep and fatigue.

Lately, one of my favorite tracks is this of the legendary Madonna. Honestly, she's not the Queen of Pop for me, but I admit that she has many good songs, among which is Living for Love, a powerful track that reminds me of inner strength and catapults my self-esteem into the heavens.

Despite I hate the video, for I find no artistic value on bullfighting, the colors and the choreography is appealing to say the least and the music perfectly matches the lyrics. Whenever I felt I needed to lift my spirits up, this song was my remedy.

Was there any song you like to listen to when you need to feel better? I certainly have several! Hope you have a great weekend, I'll see you on Monday!

Hola gente, ¿cómo están hoy?

Admito que esta entrada se escribe con apuro, casi es viernes aquí en Venezuela, pero lo importante es hacerlo. Entonces, gracias a mi horario loco, aquí estoy, en el medio de la noche, luchando contra el sueño y el cansancio.

Últimamente, uno de mis temas favoritos es el de la legendaria Madonna. Honestamente, ella no es la Reina del Pop para mí, pero admito que tiene muchas buenas canciones, entre ellas Living for Love, una poderosa pista que me recuerda a la fuerza interior y catapulta mi autoestima a los cielos.

A pesar de que odio el video, ya que no encuentro valor artístico en las corridas de toros, los colores y la coreografía son atractivos por decir lo menos y la música se adapta perfectamente a la letra. Cada vez que sentía que necesitaba levantar el ánimo, esta canción era mi remedio.

¿Hay alguna canción que les gusta escuchar cuando necesitan sentirse mejor? ¡Ciertamente tengo varias! Espero que tengan un gran fin de semana, ¡los veo el lunes!

Some changes in the blog / Algunos cambios en el blog

Good evening guys!

This a short, quick and simple entry to let you know there are a few changes on Tinta Nocturna because of the GDPR. there are still a couple of details I have to polish on the blog, but the biggests are ready.

You will see a new page on the blog about Privacy and Conditions (only in Spanish,) and you'll have to resubscribe to the blog if you want to keep receiving the entries on your emails. As for now, that's everything you need to know, so I'll get back to you tomorrow. ^^

Thinking: We don't accept writers / Pensando: No aceptamos escritores

Hello everyone! Hope you're feeling great today. :)

Today I come with a catharsis that pleads to be released. It's not a secret that I want to work on a comic book, maybe just a one-shot, since I understand is complicated to work on several pages and that artists may not want to have a compromise with someone who has no experience. However, there's something I cannot understand.

How can comic publishers accept the work of artists, even if they have no script, but refuse to look at the script of a writer if it has no art, or, even better, be completely closed to script submissions? Sorry, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

I can understand and totally accept that it is easier to view and evaluate the work of an artist, that maybe it takes less time, but to shut the door closed in that way? Do these people expect to experienced authors grow in the trees?

One could think that this is just with big, famous companies, that thye do it that way to save time, but nope, even small publishers apply that rule. It doesn't matter how much I think about it, I cannot find a purpose on doing this. Don't believe me, go and check some comic companies by yourself.

Obviously this is not going to stop me. I know I can achieve something in terms of comics, ideas are not lacking, and it 's one of my dreams, and although nobody ever said that things would be easy, I'm determined to achieve it. Although the picture is all but encouraging.

Hoy vengo con una catarsis que suplica ser liberada. No es un secreto que quiero trabajar en un cómic, puede que solo un one-shot, ya que entiendo que es complicado trabajar en varias páginas y que los artistas pueden no querer comprometerse con alguien que no tiene experiencia. Sin embargo, hay algo que no puedo entender.

¿Cómo pueden los editores de cómics aceptar el trabajo de artistas, incluso si no tienen un guión, pero negarse a mirar el guión de un escritor si no tiene arte o, mejor aún, cerrarse por completo a los envíos de guiones? Lo siento, pero no tiene ningún sentido para mí.

Puedo entender y aceptar totalmente que es más fácil ver y evaluar el trabajo de un artista, que tal vez tome menos tiempo, ¿pero cerrar la puerta de esa manera? ¿Esperan estas personas que los autores experimentados crezcan en los árboles?

Uno podría pensar que esto es solo con compañías grandes y famosas, que lo hacen de esa manera para ahorrar tiempo, pero no, incluso los editores pequeños aplican esa regla. No importa cuánto lo piense, no puedo encontrar un propósito para hacer esto. No me crean, vayan y revisen algunas compañías de cómics por ustedes mismos.

Evidentemente esto no me va a detener. Sé que puedo lograr algo en cuanto a cómics, las ideas no me faltan, y es uno de mis sueños, y aunque nunca nadie dijo que las cosas serían fáciles, estoy decidido a lograrlo. Aunque el panorama es todo salvo alentador.
¿Tienen alguna idea de por qué lo hacen? ¿Están de acuerdo o en desacuerdo conmigo? ¿Conocen una excepción a la regla? Déjenme saber en los comentarios abajo. :)

No more reviews? / ¿No más reseñas?

Hi everyone! How are you today?

You may have noticed that I'm not doing reviews anymore, at least not here but somewhere else. Why is that? Short response is because I don't want to use this, my personal space, to talk about other's work. Call it selfish, call it stupid, but it is what it is, and I will never lie to you.

The long answer is that, after thinking a little on the subject, I realized there are so many things in this head to be shared that I simply cannot keep talking about others. Despite it's true that it would be easier to maintain the blog with a lot of new material on reviews, commentaries and so on, it feels right to keep this place with my own thoughts and material.

This doesn't mean I'm not talking about books ever again. There are two monthly entries I'll be doing for the readings I'm focusing for each month and my YouTube channel will have video reviews now and then, for example. I'm just changing the focus. Expect more entries about my inspiration, music, projects, and more, all of them here and, if you want early access, in my Patreon. Hope to see you in there soon!

Meanwhile, I'm still working on keeping the calendar and updating on time. Remember that with your support it will be easier and you'll be helping me to devote myself entirely to what I'm passionate about.

¡Hola a todos! ¿Cómo están hoy?

Pueden haber notado que ya no estoy haciendo reseñas, al menos no aquí, sino en otro lado. ¿Porqué es eso? La respuesta corta se porque no quiero usar este, mi espacio personal, para hablar sobre el trabajo de los demás. Llámenlo egoísta, llámenlo estúpido, pero así son las cosas, y nunca les mentiré.

La respuesta larga es que, después de pensar un poco sobre el tema, me di cuenta de que hay tantas cosas en esta cabeza por compartir que simplemente no puedo seguir hablando de los demás. A pesar de que es cierto que sería más fácil mantener el blog con un montón de material nuevo sobre reseñas, comentarios, etc., se siente correcto mantener este lugar con mis propios pensamientos y material.

Esto no significa que no hable hablando de libros nunca más. Hay dos entradas mensuales que haré para las lecturas en las que me estoy enfocando cada mes y mi canal de YouTube tendrá reseñas de video de vez en cuando, por ejemplo. Solo estoy cambiando el enfoque. Esperen más entradas sobre mi inspiración, música, proyectos y más, todos ellos aquí y, si quieren un acceso anticipado, en mi Patreon. ¡Espero verles allí pronto!

Mientras tanto, sigo trabajando en lograr mantener el calendario y actualizar a tiempo. Recuerden que con su apoyo será más fácil y estarán ayudándome a dedicarme enteramente a lo que me apasiona.

Musical Friday / Viernes Musicales: Troye Sivan + Ludovico Technique

Hello Nocturnes, welcome to this episode of Musical Friday, which is double!
I recently saw two videos that I liked so much I have to share them, two different styles, lyrics and feelings that have nothing to do with each other but that I equally like to include in my playlist now and then. I'm not a fan of the visuals, maybe Sivan's could be my favorite, but I simply like them, that's it.
The first one is the new single by Troye Sivan, Bloom, which keeps the same style that his previous work, but with a different rhythm and a more explicit content (no shit Sherlock,) but with such an addictive structure that I keep putting on Youtube.
On the other hand, and in my usual gothic-rock vein of likes, there is Absence, by Ludovico Technique, which is perhaps, like one of the comments said, the classiest Gothic song. It combines metaphorical lyrics, calm music along with deep vocals are a marvel for your ears.
It's a weird combination for sure, but you cannot deny that each song has its own enchant. That's what makes both of them interesting and likeable. What do you think? Do you like any or both of them? Let me know in the comments!

Hola Nocturnos, bienvenidos a este episodio de Viernes Musicales, ¡que es doble!
Recientemente vi dos videos que me gustaron tanto que tengo que compartirlos, dos estilos diferentes, letras y sentimientos que no tienen nada que ver entre sí, pero que igualmente me gusta incluir en mi lista de reproducción de vez en cuando. No soy fan de las imágenes, tal vez Sivan podría ser mi favorito, pero simplemente me gustan, eso es todo.
El primero es el nuevo sencillo de Troye Sivan, Bloom, que mantiene el mismo estilo que su trabajo anterior, pero con un ritmo diferente y un contenido más explícito (no me digas), pero con una estructura tan adictiva que sigo poniendo en Youtube .
Por otro lado, y en mi habitual estilo gótico-rock de me gusta, está Absence, de Ludovico Technique, que es quizás, como dice uno de los comentarios, la canción gótica más elegante. Combina letras metafóricas, música tranquila junto con voces profundas que son una maravilla para tus oídos.
Es una combinación extraña, seguro, pero no se puede negar que cada canción tiene su propio encanto. Eso es lo que las hace interesantes y agradables. ¿Qué piensan? ¿Les gusta alguna o ambas? ¡Háganmelo saber en los comentarios!

Hi everyone. How are you today? ^^

Today’s recommendations’ day again! If you want to redesign your blog, or your web, or both, then go and ask for my friend Kassfinol, who's also a great author, by the way! In case you don’t know about her (I reviewed her here and here) you can visit her on the internet and discover her stories and novels, which are amazing!
But then I’m not here to tell you how good she's with books, but to let you know she’s now working with blogs and webs, and has already done a pretty good job so far! Her own blog and website are proof of her ability, just like those of Marissa Citeroni and Jull Dawson.
We all need a facelift from time to time, and pages too. Having a same look for a long time can create a strong identity, but a change never hurts, and it's even better to draw more attention from the public. That's something that Kass knows very well.

As you can see, Kass uses a minimalist and simple style, but she's open to other ideas. Contact her and see what you can come up with!

¡Hoy es día de recomendaciones de nuevo! Si quieren rediseñar su blog, su sitio web o ambos, entonces vayan y pregunte por mi amiga Kassfinol, que también es una gran autora. En caso de que no la conozcan (la reseñé aquí and aquí), pueden visitarla en Internet y descubrir sus historias y novelas, ¡que son increíbles!
Sin embargo, no estoy aquí para decirles lo buena que es con los libros, sino para hacerles saber que ahora está trabajando con blogs y webs, ¡y que ya ha hecho un trabajo bastante bueno hasta ahora! Su propio blog y web son una prueba de su capacidad, al igual que los de Marissa Citeroni y Jull Dawson.
Todos necesitamos un lavado de cara de vez en cuando, y las páginas también. Tener un mismo aspecto por mucho tiempo puede crear una identidad fuerte, pero un cambio nunca viene mal, y es incluso mejor para llamar más la atención del público. Eso es algo que Kass sabe muy bien.
Como pueden ver, Kass usa un estilo minimalista y simple, pero está abierta a otras ideas. ¡Pónganse en contacto con ella y vean lo que puede ocurrir!

What is Canva? / ¿Qué es Canva?

Hello people, hope you’re feeling fine today!

I’m sorry I couldn’t update the blog on Friday, but the electrical problems on my city got in the middle again, which always makes me get behind a lot of work to be done. However, here we are once again!

There’s a tool, or well, a site, to use the real word, that I want to share with you. If yours is a situation like mine, with little time but in need of many images, then you’ll be happy to know about Canva. Maybe some of you may know about it already, but for those who don’t, keep reading.

Canva is a partially free design website that helps you make different images in several formats and with wide amount of free pictures for you to use. There are quite a few layouts designed for Facebook, Twitter, book covers, Wattpad covers, and so on!

Also, if you want more professional images, photos and designs to have a better and more appealing result, you’ll have to pay a little. Yes, not very good news, but keep in mind that the charges are always low and they will not destroy your pockets.

Hope you give this site a chance! It’s easy to use and it’s just a matter of minutes until you get familiar with it. Read you soon!

Hola gente ¡espero se estén sintiendo bien hoy!

Perdonen que no pude actualizar el blog el viernes, pero los problemas eléctricos en mi ciudad se entrometieron de nuevo, lo cual siempre me hace terminar atrasado con el trabajo. Sin embargo, ¡henos aquí nuevamente!

Hay una herramienta, o bueno, una página, para usar la palabra real, que quiero compartirles.  Si la suya es una situación como la mía, con poco tiempo pero en necesidad de muchas imágenes, entonces estarán felices de saber sobre Canva. Puede que algunos de ustedes ya estén al tanto de ella, pero para aquello que no, sigan leyendo.

Canva es un sitio de diseño parcialmente gratis que les ayuda a hacer distintas imágenes en diferentes formatos y con una amplia cantidad de imágenes gratuitas para usar. Hay varias maquetas diseñadas para Facebook, Twitter, portadas de libros, portadas para Wattpad, ¡y más!

Además, si quieren imágenes más profesionales, fotos y diseños para tener un resultado mejor y más llamativo,  tendrán que pagar un poco. Sí, no muy buenas noticias, pero mantengan en mente que los precios son siempre bajos y no destruirán sus bolsillos.

¡Espero le den una oportunidad a esta página! Es sencilla de usar y es solo cuestión de minutos hasta que se familiarizan con ella. ¡Nos leemos pronto!

What am I reading? / ¿Qué estoy leyendo?

Hello there! How are you doing, guys?

Does any of you have plans to read this month, maybe some late reading? It's my case, and I share with you the four books that I'm prioritizing for this month. I may be unfaithful and go with another from time to time, but my focus right now will be on...

• Road Ghosts Omnibus Edition: I'll have patience with the slow pace of this saga to be able to advance. I like the proposal of a more adult and darker Scooby Doo, so I promise that at least the first book should be ready this month.
• Children of Wisdom Trilogy: Fantasy, Greek myths and deaths before time. I like it! I'm almost, almost ready with the first book in this trilogy, I know it wouldn't take long, so I'm determined that at least "The Fate" should be ready before this month's end.
• Ellen Ledger: I've wanted to read this so much and decided not to postpone it anymore. The story touches on topics that move me a lot, such as depression, self-harming and even suicide. We'll see how everything goes and if I survive.
• Taltos: I promised to review this witches gothic novel and it will be a good way to close stages. The interesting thing's that I started already with it and have a good part ahead. I hope to keep this pace. ^^

I confess they're not the only books I have to read, there are many, many more, but as far as fiction is concerned, these are the candidates. Wish me luck! I'm going to need it this time hehehe. Read you soon!

¡Hola por allá! ¿Cómo les va, chicos?

¿Alguno tiene planes para leer este mes, quizás alguna lectura atrasada? Es mi caso, y les comparto los cuatro libros que estoy priorizando para este mes. Puede que sea infiel y vaya con otro de vez en cuando, pero mi foco esta vez estará en...

• Road Ghosts Omnibus Edition: Le tendré paciencia al ritmo lento de esta saga para poder avanzar. Me gusta la propuesta de un Scooby Doo más adulto y oscuro, así que me comprometo a que al menos el primer libro debe estar listo este mes.
• Children of Wisdom Trilogy: Fantasía, mitos griegos y muertes antes de tiempo. ¡Me gusta! Estoy casi, casi listo con el primer libro de esta trilogía, sé que no me tomaría mucho tiempo, así que estoy decidido a que al menos "The Fate" debe estar listo antes de terminar este mes. 
• Ellen Ledger: Le he tenido muchas, muchísimas ganas, y decidí no postergar más la lectura. La historia toca temas que me mueven mucho como lo son la depresión, las auto lesiones y hasta el suicidio. Veremos qué tal sale todo y si sobrevivo.
• Taltos: Prometí reseñar esta novela gótica de brujas y será una buena forma de cerrar etapas. Lo interesante es que ya empecé a leerla y tengo una buena parte adelantada. Espero poder mantener este ritmo. ^^

Confieso que no son los únicos libros que tengo que leer, hay mucho, muchos más, pero en cuanto a ficción, estos son los candidatos. ¡Deséenme suerte! Voy a necesitarla esta vez jejeje. ¡Nos leemos pronto!
