Desde hace muchísimo tiempo hay una controversia inmensa con respecto a J. K. Rowling. Es un tema largo, pero no complicado: Indiferentemente de su talento creativo como escritora, el que haya hecho que toda una generación se enamore de los libros, y que haya apoyado causas benéficas en el pasado, no implica que no sea una persona detestable, transfóbica, extremista, e ignorante.

Recientemente, Rowling se ha olvidado de los libros que le ganaron el amor de tantos lectores y se ha dedicado a esparcir desinformación y rumores sin fundamentos sobre deportistas que para ella no son mujeres. Pero se le olvidó verificar en Wikipedia primero, como mínimo: Tanto Imane Khelif como Lin Yu-ting son mujeres biológicas. Eso no significa que las mujeres trans no sean mujeres. Significa que Rowling vive en su propio mundo extremista en donde si no “te ves” de un género, entonces “no eres” de ese género.
Hay un excelente artículo que muestra cómo la autora pasó de darle Me Gusta a tweets transfóbicos a escribir transfobia ad nauseam y apoyar movimientos legales en contra de las personas trans. Como mencioné antes, su perfil en Twitter es un repositorio de comentarios arbitrarios sin fundamento. Olvidados quedaron los mundos de fantasía que nos dió años atrás.
Ahora, ella tiene todo el derecho del mundo de ser la clase de persona que quiera ser. Lo que tiene es el derecho de limitar las libertades y derechos de otras personas. Si ella se niega a aceptar que las mujeres trans son mujeres, y que los hombres trans son hombres, ese es su problema. El problema con J. K. Rowling es que se dedique a esparcir mentiras y alimentar el odio, una, dos, tres, cuatro veces, y pare usted de contar.
Al final del día, el argumento de la transfobia es que las mujeres deben “verse” como tal, o de lo contrario son “hombres con vestidos” que quieren abusar de las mujeres en los baños. Sin embargo, un hombre no necesita vestirse de mujer para abusar de una, una mujer no necesita vestirse de hombre para abusar tampoco, y que no hay evidencia de que permitir que las personas transgénero utilicen instalaciones públicas que se alinean con su identidad de género aumente los riesgos de seguridad, según un estudio de la UCLA.
Quiero terminar disculpándome con las personas y lectores que ofendí y herí cuando escribí una columna sobre J. K. Rowling en donde no supe manejar el tema de la mejor manera. Es cierto que la pasé bien en ese parque, no tiene caso negarlo, pero lo manejé todo con una insensibilidad que quiero evitar a futuro. Si hay algo que me enseñaron mis padres, especialmente mi madre, es que “es de humanos errar, pero es de sabios rectificar”, y espero estar más cerca de ser un mejor ser humano hoy día.

There has been a huge controversy regarding J.K. Rowling for a very long time. It's a long topic, but not a complicated one: Regardless of her creative talent as a writer, the fact that she has made a whole generation fall in love with books, and that she has supported charitable causes in the past, does not mean that she is not a hateful, transphobic, extremist, and ignorant person.

Recently, Rowling has forgotten about the books that won her the love of so many readers and has dedicated herself to spreading misinformation and baseless rumors about athletes who, in her opinion, are not women. But she forgot to check Wikipedia first, at the very least: Both Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting are biological women. That does not mean that trans women are not women. It means that Rowling lives in her own extremist world where if you don't "look" a gender, then you "are not" that gender.
There is an excellent article showing how the author went from liking transphobic tweets to writing transphobia ad nauseam and supporting legal movements against trans people. As I mentioned before, her Twitter profile is a repository of arbitrary comments without foundation. The fantasy worlds she gave us years ago are forgotten.
Now, she has every right in the world to be whatever kind of person she wants to be. What she has is the right to limit the freedoms and rights of other people. If she refuses to accept that trans women are women, and that trans men are men, that is her problem. The problem with J. K. Rowling is that she is spreading lies and fueling hate, once, twice, three, four times, and you stop counting.
At the end of the day, the argument for transphobia is that women must “look” like women, or else they are “men in dresses” who want to abuse women in bathrooms. However, a man does not need to dress as a woman to abuse one, a woman does not need to dress as a man to abuse either, and that there is no evidence that letting transgender people use public facilities that align with their gender identity increases safety risks, a UCLA study finds.
I want to end by apologizing to the people and readers I offended and hurt when I wrote a column about J. K. Rowling in which I did not know how to handle the subject in the best way. It is true that I had a good time at that park, there is no point in denying it, but I handled it all with an insensitivity that I want to avoid in the future. If there is one thing my parents, especially my mother, taught me, it is that “it is human to err, but it is wise to rectify,” and I hope to be closer to being a better human being today.
