Gabriel García Márquez: Q.E.P.D. / R.I.P.

Hoy vengo con una noticia triste. Para los que no sabían, hace algunos días se dio la noticia de que el escritor Gabriel García Márquez había fallecido a la edad de 87 años. Como todos sabrán, el Gabo era el autor de Cien años de Soledad, su obra maestra y la más famosa de todas.
Today I come with sad news. For those who did not know, a few days ago the news that writer Gabriel García Márquez had died at 87 years old. As we all know, el Gabo was the author of One Hundred Years of Solitude, his most famous masterpiece of all.
No puedo decir que la noticia me sorprendió. Ya lo veía venir desde hacía varios meses. El Gabo no salía a la luz pública, no sacaba libros, no se sabía casi nada de él. Ahora que está muerto, nos dicen que sufría de demencia senil, posiblemente producto de un tratamiento para el cáncer al que se sometió años atrás.
I can't say I was surprised by the news. I saw it coming several months ago. El Gabo didn't come to light, pulled no books, no one knew almost nothing about him. Now that is dead, they tell us he was suffering from senile dementia, possibly as a result of treatment for cancer who underwent years ago.
La demencia senil es una pérdida progresiva de las funciones cognitivas de la persona que la padece, es decir, va perdiendo la memoria, el lenguaje, la capacidad de orientación, entre otros. Esto nos puede decir que el Gabo no recordaba nada de su gloria, de quién era, qué hacía, etc.

Es triste que alguien tan grande como lo fue Gabriel García Márquez tuviera que sufrir de esto, pues no quiero imaginar la frustración de su familia al ver tan gran hombre olvidar todo acerca de él, olvidar cómo expresarse.
It's sad to know that someone so big as Gabriel García Márquez had to suffer this, cause I can't imagine the frustration of his family to see such a great man forget all about him, forget how to express.
Personalmente, odio el estilo de Gabriel García Márquez. No me gusta, me repele por completo, y me repele más el hecho de haberlo leído obligado en el colegio, solo he leído dos libros de él y no tengo ganas de leer otro; solo daré la oportunidad a Cien Años de Soledad por ser su obra más famosa. Pero no por eso me es indiferente la pérdida que acabamos de tener en el mundo literario.
Personally, I hate Gabriel García Márquez's style. I don't like it at all, it repels me, and repels me more the fact I read it bound at high school; I've only read two books by him and I have no desire to read another, I just give a chance to Hundred Years of Solitude to be his most famous work. But I do care about the loss we just had in the literary world.
Si antes fue momento de leer sus obras, ahora más, pues como dice un dicho: Si quieres vivir mil vida, lee, pero si quieres vivir por siempre, escribe.
If before it was time to read his works, now more, because as the saying goes: If you want to live a thousand lives, reads but if you want to live forever, write.
