Hi guys! Today I decided to catch up with something that takes a long time overdue, a review that was supposed to be published before this month...*dodging stones* In my defense I will say that ...! *Dodges fire stones* Ok, no excuses then.

The thing is that I was reading a steampunk novel, one those that don't really abound in the market, or at least that's the perception I have; I just read a novel and a comic that fall under this label.
La cosa es que estuve leyendo la una novela steampunk, de esas que realmente no abundan en el mercado, o al menos es la percepción que tengo; solo he leído una novela y un cómic que entran en esta etiqueta.
Overall, the general idea's not new: a girl who must save the world, taking on a new reality she was not even remotely aware of. What is fairly new, is the number of subplots, the style and the characters that are along the way.
En términos generales, la idea general no es muy novedosa: una chica que debe salvar al mundo, asumiendo una nueva realidad de la cual no estaba ni remotamente al tanto. Lo que sí es bastante novedoso, es la cantidad de subtramas, estilo y personajes que hay a lo largo del camino.
It's a pretty colorful story, full of different things that remind me those we find in comics, and curiously it's not that difficult for me to think that each chapter could work quite well as an issue.

Es una historia bastante colorida, llena de diferentes seres que me hacen recordar a los que nos encontramos en los cómics, y curiosamente no me cuesta pensar que cada capítulo podría funcionar bastante bien como un número.

It has its ups and downs, some dull moments and others that seem unnecessary, but there comes a point where the drama is unleashed to its full potential we realize that things were not as we thought at first.

Tiene sus altibajos, algunos momentos aburridos y otros que parecen innecesarios, pero llega un punto donde el drama se desata en todo su potencial que nos damos cuenta de que las cosas no eran como pensábamos en un principio.

There are elements that we already know from before: the antihero, the girl who suddenly becomes heroin, family secrets, betrayals, sacrifices... small events to which we have become accustomed as readers but won't tire us.
Hay elementos que ya conocemos desde antes: el antihéroe, la chica que de repente se vuelve heroína, los secretos familiares, las traiciones, los sacrificios... pequeños eventos a los cuales nos hemos habituado como lectores pero de los que no nos cansaremos por muy repetidos que estén.
Not because it means that Devon's story has a lack of originality, there is some new we never seen before: a god octopus locked in a interdimensional shop, a squirrel with hysteria problems or a rhino serving as security chief, to say a few examples.
No por ello significa que la la historia de Devon carezca de originalidad, hay otros nuevos nunca antes vistos: un dios pulpo encerrado en una tienda interdimensional, una ardilla con problemas de histeria o un rinoceronte que actúa como jefe de seguridad, por decir unos pocos ejemplos.
Seems like the steampunk topic's not fully exploited, going more in the genre of adventure and fantasy, but I assume it is for being the first book in the series, so I'll be expecting more with respect to the next book.
Me sabe que el tema del steampunk no está explotado del todo, entrando más en el género de aventura y fantasía, pero asumo que es por ser el primer libro de la saga, así que estaré esperando más con respecto al próximo libro.
Definitely a very original reading, full of unique characters and a plot so special many will end open mouthed. I'm going to read it until the end, and you should do the same!

Definitivamente, una lectura muy original, llena de personajes singulares y una trama por demás especial que a muchos va a dejar con la boca abierta. Me la anoto para leerla hasta que termine, ¡y ustedes deberían hacer lo mismo!
