Percy Shelley, con un guión de David Vandermeulen y arte de Daniel Casanave, es el primer libro de la Bilogía Shelley. Me esperaba una historia interesante, atrapante, quizás algo más oscuro, dejándome llevar por la portada, pero me encontré con una adaptación humorística de la vida de Percy.

La historia no nos muestra mucho, solo lo que hizo este personaje para convertirse en una figura polémica en su tiempo, pero bajo un lente de irreverencia y comedia que se asemeja más a la parodia que a un recuento como tal. Realmente no siento que aprendiese nada importante sobre Percy Shelley en este cómic, si soy honesto.

La historia de David Vandermeulen es sencilla, directa, sin muchos adornos, aunque tiene cierto atractivo. Se lee de una sentada, y aunque se siente muy corta, deja un sabor ligero al terminarla. Bien es cierto que esperaba algo mucho más interesante, una trama atrapante, y luego de terminar no estoy seguro de si ofrece novedad alguna.

Por otro lado, el arte de Daniel Casanave me pareció atrapante. Los páneles de Percy Shelley me parecieron más interesantes que la historia en sí. Le agregaron un encanto peculiar, una mezcla de parodia con buen estilo, colores sencillos al principio que contrastaron con las combinaciones más exóticas y oscuras de las páginas finales.

Si bien la esencia de la historia se pierde y uno se espera algo oscuro, más profundo, digamos que hasta predecible tratándose de Percy Shelley, la historia cumple con su función de entretener y mostrar un lado más sencillo de este personaje. Tengo sin embargo la esperanza de que el segundo volumen, dedicado a Mary Shelley, sea mejor y más acorde a la atmósfera de tragedia y melancolía que la rodea.

Percy Shelley, with a script by David Vandermeulen and art by Daniel Casanave, is the first book in the Shelley Bilogy. I was expecting an interesting, engaging story, maybe something darker, influenced by the cover, but I found a humorous adaptation of Percy's life.
The story doesn't show us much, only what this character did to become a controversial figure in his time, but under a lens of irreverence and comedy that resembles parody more than a recount as such. I really don't feel like I learned anything important about Percy Shelley in this comic, if I'm honest.
The story by David Vandermeulen is simple, direct, without many adornments, although it has some appeal. You read it in one sitting, and although it feels very short, it leaves a light taste when finished. It is true that I expected something much more interesting, a fascinating plot, and after finishing I'm not sure if it offers any novelty.
On the other hand, the art of Daniel Casanave seemed fascinating to me. The panels in Percy Shelley seemed more interesting to me than the story itself. They added a peculiar charm, a mixture of parody with good style, simple colors at the beginning that contrasted with the more exotic and darker combinations of the final pages.
While the essence of the story's lost and one expects something dark, deeper, let's say even predictable in the case of Percy Shelley, the story fulfills its function of entertaining and showing a simpler side of this character. However, I hope that the second volume, dedicated to Mary Shelley, will be better and more in keeping with the atmosphere of tragedy and melancholy that surrounds her.
