Este libro nos cuenta la historia de Kaze Niss, el último de la infame familia Niss de necromantes, quienes podían usar magia negra y de sangre, junto con sus conexiones con los Dioses de la Muerte, los shinigami de Blacuir. Está decidido a vengar a su familia y descubrir lo que está sucediendo en el reino en el que vivió.

Kaze descubre no solo que los Blood Tomes, grimorios que contienen los secretos de la magia de su familia, pueden caer en manos malintencionadas, sino también que una conspiración está a raya para derrocar a los shinigamis. ¿La razón? Deidades sedientas de sangre.

Aunque suena interesante, A Prayer for the Necromancer apunta demasiado alto en poco tiempo, e intenta impresionar tan pronto como aparece algo nuevo sin dar al lector el tiempo suficiente para familiarizarse con el resto del universo. Comprendí el impacto de, por ejemplo, la magia de sangre y el tipo de habilidades que Kaze usa cuando lucha, pero solo porque seguí leyendo.

C. Wain tuvo muchas buenas ideas y creó una buena base para lo que podría haber sido una mejor historia, la verdad sea dicha, pero siguió agregando y agregando tantos elementos y vocabulario en tan poco tiempo que confunde al lector. A Prayer for the Necromancer is the first installment in The Shinigami Tomes series, by C. Wain, has a lot of interesting and attractive elements, however, it fails in development matters.

This book tells us the story of Kaze Niss, the last one of the infamous Niss family of necromancers, who were able to use black and blood magic, along with their connections with the Gods of Death, the shinigamis of Blacuir. He is determined to avenge his family and discover what is happening in in the kingdom he once lived in.

Kaze discovers not only that the Blood Tomes, grimoires that contain the secrets of his family’s magic, may fall on malicious hands, but also that a conspiracy is at bay to overthrown the shinigamis themselves. The reason? Blood-thirsty deities.

Although it sounds interesting, A Prayer for the Necromancer aims too high in little time, and tries to impress as soon as something new appears without giving the reader enough time to be familiar with the rest of the universe. I understood the impact of, for example, blood magic and the kind of abilities Kaze uses when he fights, but only because I kept reading.

C. Wain had a lot of good ideas and created a good base for what could have been a better story, truth be told, but he kept on adding and adding so much elements and vocabulary in so little time that it confuses the reader. He meant well, the story is good and appealing, but needs to be further edited in terms of development and writing, for there are also repetitive phrases that bother while reading.
