Comic: Jakob Kayne #1 La Isabela

Ha pasado un tiempo desde que leí algo de ficción histórica y he estado buscando alguna historia que me llamara la atención. Cuando supe de Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela, escrito por Sylvain Runberg y con arte de Mateo Guerrero, que combinaba el género con fantasía y guerras, decidí darle una oportunidad, y me alegra haberlo hecho.

Este primer capítulo nos presente a Jakob Kayne, un devorador de memorias cuya cara nadie puede recordar tan pronto como dejan de verlo. Él y su hermano Samuel son los últimos sobrevivientes de una raza que ha jurado proteger y sanar a aquellos que los necesitan. Al llegar a la ciudad La Isabella, cuya destrucción es inminente, debe proteger a una familia desesperada y controlar los sentimientos que surgen por su paciente, Victoria, una chica al borde de la muerte.

Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela combina sus tres géneros, fantasía, histórico y bélico, muy bien, creando un ambiente absorbente, personajes atrapantes y una trama más que solo atractiva. A pesar de que el inicio es un tanto confuso, ligeramente pesado, se vuelve mucho más llevadero conforme avanza la lectura. Sylvain Runberg ha creado una mitología que estoy deseoso de conocer más a fondo.

Lo mismo sucede con el arte, a cargo de Mateo Guerrero. Los colores cálidos hacen que sea una experiencia mucho más natural, los juegos de contrastes le dan un toque atractivo a los paneles, aunque sigo prefiriendo los tonos oscuros y escenas nocturnas. ¡Tienen un aire de suspenso que me encanta!

Este cómic se me hizo más bien corto, pero estoy ansioso por saber cómo sigue. Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela es de esas historias que devoras en menos de una hora, no solo por lo breve, sino por lo atrapantes que son.

It's been a while since I read some historical fiction and I've been looking for some story that caught my attention. When I knew about Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela, written by Sylvain Runberg and with artwork by Mateo Guerrero, which combined the genre with fantasy and wars, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did.

This first chapter introduces us to Jakob Kayne, a Memory-Eater whose face no one can remember as soon as they stop looking at him. He and his brother Samuel are the last survivors of a race sworn to protect and heal those who need them. Arriving in the city of La Isabela, which destruction is imminent, he must protect a desperate family and control the feelings that arise for his patient, Victoria, a girl on the verge of death.
Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela combines its three genres, fantasy, historical and warlike, very well, creating an absorbent environment, captivating characters and a plot more than just attractive. Although the beginning is somewhat confusing, slightly heavy, it becomes much more bearable as the reading progresses. Sylvain Runberg has created a mythology I look forward to learning more about.
The same happens with art, by Mateo Guerrero. The warm colors make it a much more natural experience, the contrasts give an attractive touch to the panels, although I still prefer the dark tones and night scenes. They have an air of suspense that I love!
This comic was rather short, but I'm anxious to know how it goes. Jakob Kanye #1 La Isabela is one of those stories you devour in less than an hour, not just because they're short, but for how captivating they are.
