No suelo leer antologías, pero siempre hay una excepción si los planetas se alinean y los géneros son los correctos para mí. La sinopsis de Boys, Beasts & Men, por Sam J. Miller, era demasiado atractiva para dejarla pasar, ¡y ahora estoy ahorrando para conseguir una edición impresa por lo bueno que fue! ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Una de las cosas que más me gusta de este libro es que los relatos no son tan cortos. Tienen la longitud necesaria para dejarte entrar en su mundo, que te importen sus personajes, enamorarte de la trama y emocionarte a medida que se acerca el clímax. Más de una vez odié a Sam por los resultados, lo que pasó con los personajes, pero me encantó la forma en que lo hizo.

Tiene una voz sólida que es capaz de cambiar según la historia, según lo que necesite, transformando ideas clásicas en algo nuevo, creativo y único. Cometí el error de intentar leer las historias todas de una vez sólo para terminar fatigado. Disminuir la velocidad fue la decisión correcta para permitirme saborear los mundos de Sam, tener una experiencia sensorial completa, mientras me sumergía en ellos.

Como esperaba, no los disfruté todos en el mismo grado. No diré ningún nombre ni el orden en que aparecen, pero hay dos historias sobre padres que disfruté especialmente, mientras que otra que esperaba leer no estuvo a la altura de mis expectativas. Si bien todas las historias son fantasía y terror en diferentes niveles, son diferentes en forma y resultado.

Boys, Beasts & Men es perfecto para este mes, pero no lo limitaría a solo 31 días. Hay amor, horror, familia, religión, malestar social, etc. Es un libro completo que proporciona diferentes experiencias dependiendo de dónde aterrices. Más puntos a favor porque este libro sirva para vincular Miller-verso que está creando el autor. Estoy ansioso por ver qué sucede a continuación.

One of the things I like the most about this book is that the short stories are not that short. They have the needed length in order to let you in into their world, make you care for their characters, fell in love with the plot, and get excited as the climax approached. More than once I hated Sam for the outcomes, what happened to the characters, but I loved the way he did it.

He has a solid voice that is able to change depending on the story, depending on what he needs, twisting classical ideas into something new, creative, and unique. I made the mistake of trying to read the stories all at once only to end up fatigued. Slowing down was the right decision to let me savor Sam's worlds, have a complete sensory experience, as I got immersed in them.

As I expected, I didn't enjoy all of them to the same degree. I won't say any names or spoil the order in which they appear, but there are two stories about parents that I particularly enjoyed, whereas ano I was looking forward to read didn't live up to my expectations. While all the stories are fantasy and horror to different levels, they are different in form and result.

Boys, Beasts & Men is perfect for this month, yet I wouldn't limit it to just 31 days. There's love, horror, family, religion, social unrest, and so on. It's a complete book that provides different experiences depending on where you land. It's a plus that this book serves to tie in the Miller-verse that the author is creating. I'm eager to see what happens next in it.

Desde hace tiempo que quería leer algo con un mundo atrapante y diferente. Le tenía el ojo puesto a este manga desde hace algunos meses, así que no me lo pensé cuando recibí un ejemplar digital de la editorial. Es difícil encontrar ideas originales hoy en día, pero a veces te encuentras con historias como Lullaby of the Dawn, Vol. 1, por Ichika Yuno. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Elva es una chamán de batalla cuya vida se ve erosionada poco a poco cada vez que hace retroceder a los monstruos que emergen del mar negro. Indignado al ver esto, un joven llamado Alto está decidido a encontrar una cura y permanecer al lado de Elva.

Después de 8 largos años, Alto se ha convertido en un joven intrépido, aunque esconde su amor en el fondo. Y a pesar de que solo espera vivir unos años más, Elva parece estar curándose mientras pasa tiempo al lado de Alto.

Este libro contiene contenido sexual y no está destinado a menores de 18 años.

Las horas se me pasaron volando desde que empecé. Hubo un momento en que literalmente perdí noción del tiempo por lo inmerso que estaba. El inicio fue bastante potente, sentó las bases de una historia sólida, interesante, y el ritmo mantuvo interesante la lectura. No siempre pasa esto con un manga, o por lo menos no a mí.

El arte es otro punto a favor. Es fácil de seguir, disfrutar, sin mencionar que el diseño de los personajes me encantó desde el primer momento. Hay transiciones que causaron el mismo efecto, y es que el aspecto visual es casi cinemático, casi como si fuese el guión visual para una película. El estilo limpio y detallado también le dio puntos extra, haciendo que me terminara de encantar.

Mi única queja sería el hecho de que no sentí suficiente desarrollo en los personajes, principalmente en la relación de Alto y Elva. Empezó bastante bien, mantuvo la intriga hasta cierto punto, pero cuando se da ese salto en el tiempo a un Alto más adulto, esperaba que detallaran más qué es lo que lo mantiene al lado de Elva. No fue problemático, pero siento que podría haber quedado mejor.

Como lectura es excelente, y la propuesta visual me encantó. Es un manga ligero con un mundo bien desarrollado que te intriga desde el inicio y una relación bastante dulce. Es fácil quedar encantado, más aún si te gustan las historias de fantasía con personajes heridos, mundos originales, y conspiraciones en potencia. ¡Ya quiero leer el siguiente! Solo una última acotación: No vi contenido adulto, así que recomendaría esto para mayores de 16 años.

For a long time I've wanted to read something with a captivating and different world. I had my eye on this manga for a few months, so I didn't think twice when I received a digital copy from the publisher. It's hard to find original ideas nowadays, but sometimes you come across stories like Lullaby of the Dawn, Vol. 1, by Ichika Yuno. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy!

The hours flew since I started. There was a moment when I literally lost track of time because of how immersed I was. The beginning was quite powerful, it laid the foundations for a solid, interesting story, and the rhythm kept the reading interesting. This doesn't always happen with a manga, or at least not to me.

The art is another plus point. It's easy to follow, enjoy, not to mention that I loved the character design from the first moment. There are transitions that caused the same effect, and it's that the visual aspect is almost cinematic, almost as if it were the visual script for a movie. The clean and detailed style also gave it extra points, making me really love it.

My only complaint would be the fact that I didn't feel enough character development, mainly in Alto and Elva's relationship. It started out pretty well, it kept the intrigue up to a point, but when you make that jump in time to a more adult Alto, I was hoping I would go into more detail about what keeps him at Elva's side. It wasn't problematic, but I feel like it could have turned out better.

As a read, it's excellent, and I loved the visual proposal. It's a light manga with a well-developed world that intrigues you from the start and a pretty sweet relationship. It's easy to be enchanted, even more so if you like fantasy stories with wounded characters, original worlds, and potential conspiracies. I already want to read the next one! Just one last note: I didn't see adult content, so I would recommend this for ages 16 and up.
