Titans: Temporada 2 / Season 2

Bienvenidos de regreso, chicos. ^^ Espero que estén muy bien. Yo, pues, encerrado. Ja. A falta de algo mejor que hacer. Ja, ja. Dejando los chistes pésimos de lado, les cuento que ya terminé de ver la segunda temporada de Titans, la serie de DC Universe que ahora está en Netflix. Aunque no fue tan buena como la anterior, en verdad me dejó muy satisfecho.

En la segunda temporada, después de su encuentro con Trigon, Dick Grayson reforma a los Titanes. Bajo su supervisión en su nuevo hogar en Titans Tower, Rachel, Gar Logan y Jason Todd entrenan juntos para perfeccionar sus habilidades de héroe y trabajar juntos como un equipo. A ellos se unen Hank Hall y Dawn Granger, también conocidos como Hawk y Dove, y Donna Troy, también conocida como Wonder Girl. Aunque estos Titanes originales intentan hacer la transición a una vida normal, cuando los viejos enemigos resurgen, todos deben unirse para ocuparse de los asuntos pendientes. Y a medida que esta familia de viejos y nuevos titanes, incluidos Conner Kent y Rose Wilson, aprenden a coexistir, la llegada de Deathstroke saca a la luz los pecados de los viejos titanes que amenazan con desgarrar a esta nueva familia deuna vez más.

El arco argumental me pareció muy diverso esta vez. Aunque entretenidos, algunos me parecieron flojos, mientras que otros, como los que conciernen a Jericho (mis respetos a este chico y a su actor), fueron todo lo contrario.

Esta segunda temporada de Titans busca ser más oscura que la primera, y lo logra a medias. Hay tantos elementos conflictivos, tantas historias cruzadas, que me sentía saturado, pero el efecto está allí sin dudas. Fuera de algunos detalles, e ignorando el cambio de aspecto de varios personajes (alguien por favor devuélvame a la Starfire y al Gar de la primera temporada, por favor), la atmósfera me encantó.

Lo dije antes y lo diré de nuevo. Esta es una serie que va en el camino correcto. Puede ser que mi amor hacia Raven haya perjudicado mi perspectiva, pero en líneas generales fue una buena temporada para Titans, muy bien hecha y que plantea una base igual para la tercera temporada, la cual veremos este otoño. Mientras tanto, supongo que tendremos que leer los cómics. ¿Quién me acompaña?*

*Es en serio. Tengo una lista de cómics en un orden de lectura que creo es el definitivo en lo que a los Titanes concierne. Quien quiera animarse a hacerlo, escríbame por redes sociales y se la haré llegar. ^^

Welcome back, guys. ^^ I hope you are very good. I, well, locked up. Ha For want of something better to do. Haha. Leaving the terrible jokes aside, I tell you that I have finished watching Titans' Second Season, the DC Universe series that is now on Netflix. Although it was not as good as the previous one, it really left me very satisfied.

In season two, following the aftermath of their encounter with Trigon, Dick Grayson reforms the Titans. Under his supervision in their new home at Titans Tower, Rachel, Gar Logan and Jason Todd train together to hone their hero abilities and work together as a team. They are joined by Hank Hall and Dawn Granger aka Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl. Although these original Titans attempt to transition into a regular life, when old enemies resurface everyone must come together to take care of unfinished business. And as this family of old and new Titans – including Conner Kent and Rose Wilson – learn to co-exist, the arrival of Deathstroke brings to light the sins of the old Titans which threaten to tear this new family apart once more.

The story arc seemed very diverse to me this time. Each episode seemed to want to show a different side of the characters, either delving deeper into those we already know or introducing new ones. Although entertaining, some seemed lazy to me, while others, such as those that concern Jericho (my respects to this boy and his actor,) were the opposite.

This second season of Titans seeks to be darker than the first, and does it halfway. There are so many conflicting elements, so many crossed stories, that I felt saturated, but the effect is there without a doubt. Outside of a few details, and ignoring the change in appearance of various characters (someone please give me back the Starfire and Gar from the first season, please,) the atmosphere enchanted me.

I said it before and I will say it again. This is a series that's on the right track. It may be that my love for Raven has hurt my outlook, but overall it was a good season for Titans, very well done, and laying the same groundwork for the third season, which we'll see this Fall. In the meantime, I guess we'll have to read the comics. Who is with me? *

Buen día, Nocturnos. Espero que estén muy bien. Hace un par de día me leí un cómic al que le tenía el ojo puesto desde hace mucho rato, y quiero compartirles mi opinión al respecto. Se trata de Forever Evil, escrito por Geoff Johns y con arte de David Finch, Richard Friend y Sonia Oback.

La idea detrás de la historia me pareció muy curiosa, una que se presta para muchas más páginas de las que tiene este volumen, y a decir verdad has sagas que se desprenden de él, pero al no estar al tanto de los acontecimientos anteriores en el universo de DC estuve un poco perdido. Igual se disfruta y se lee en nada, como todo lo que tiene el sello de Geoff Johns, pero no está de más tener una base de la cual partir. Solo por si acaso.

El arte de David Finch, Richard Friend y Sonia Oback es impecable, con colores vibrantes y personajes que maravillan con cada aparición. Aunque es una historia de villanos, Forever Evil no es tan oscuro como uno se espera, sino que tiene un tono más ligero. Lo que sí destaca bastante son las escenas gráficas, que no por ser pocas o distanciadas unas de las otras dejan de ser impactantes, más aún por el diseño de los personajes. Cuando lo lean sabrán a qué me refiero.

Este cómic me gustó más que todo por las cuestiones que plantea. Todos hemos visto el símbolo del yin y yang, en donde algo bueno habita en lo malo, y viceversa. Pues bien, la historia plantea justamente eso. ¿Somos todos héroes y villanos, y nada más, o podemos ser ambos dependiendo de las circunstancias? A pesar de que la respuesta es incómoda, Forever Evil la hace mucho más tolerable. De más está decir que me encantó.

The idea behind the story seemed very curious to me, one that lends itself to many more pages than this volume has, and to tell the truth you have more series that come off it, but not being aware of previous events in the universe DC I was a little lost. It is enjoyed just the same and you read it in no time, like everything that has the Geoff Johns seal, but it doesn't hurt to have a base from which to start. Just in case.

The art of David Finch, Richard Friend, and Sonia Oback is impeccable, with vibrant colors and characters that amaze with every appearance. Although it's a villain story, Forever Evil is not as dark as one would expect, but rather lighter in tone. What does stand out quite a bit are the graphic scenes, which till impress despite being a few and far from each other, even more so due to the characters' design. When you read it you will know what I mean.

I liked this comic more than anything because of the questions it raises. We have all seen the symbol of yin and yang, where something good lives in bad, and vice versa. Well, the story plays with that. Are we all heroes and villains, and nothing else, or can we both be depending on the circumstances? Despite the awkward response, Forever Evil makes it much more tolerable. Needless to say, I loved it.

Buenos días, gente. Espero que estén bien. Hace poco terminé de leer un libro muy curioso. No me da vergüenza decir que la portada fue el gancho que me atrapó, y el contenido fue muy, muy bueno. Se trata de Zombies of the World: A Field Guide to the Undead , de Ross Payton, una guía de campo sobre los muertos vivientes, sus tipos, costumbres, hábitats y estudios. Evidente, es todo humor, ¡y muy bueno! Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia por NetGalley. ^^

Así como la suya, Zombies of the World está llenos de historias irónicas que también invitan a la reflexión.

Estoy seguro de que nunca nos detuvimos a pensar en los muertos vivientes como los plantea este libro: una especie más con la que se podría coexistir en un futuro, o en un universo paralelo, una dimensión alternativa, o algo por el estilo. Me encantó leer Zombies of the World: A Field Guide to the Undead, de Ross Payton, y puede que me haya dado ideas para historias futuras. Ya veremos. *guiño*.

Good morning people. I hope they are well. I recently finished reading a very curious book. I'm not ashamed to say that the cover was the hook that caught me, and the content was very, very good. This is Ross Payton's Zombies of the World: A Field Guide to the Undead, their types, customs, habitats, and studies. Obvious, it's all humor, and very good! Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy through NetGalley. ^^

This book almost reads itself, for real. It may be that some parts with academic tone are a bit heavy, but they are still entertaining. Ross Payton has a style that makes it all interesting, not to mention how funny it was to read about the types of zombies, the references in their scientific names, and creative facts that correspond to each class.

Many of the illustrations were amazing. The cartoonish style made the reading even easier, if possible, and it was a good surprise to see almost all of them were colored. I have to say my favorite was that of Melmoth the Wanderer, and wish such a character had been the cover. Like his, Zombies of the World is filled with ironic stories that invite reflection.

I’m sure we never stopped to think about the living dead as this book presents them: as yet another species we could coexist with in the future, or a parallel universe, an alternative dimension, o something like that. I loved to read Zombies of the World: A Field Guide to the Undead, by Ross Payton, and it could be it gave me ideas for future stories. We shall see. *wink*

Buen día, gente. ¿Qué tal estuvo el fin de semana? Iniciamos la semana con la reseña de un cómic que me gustó bastante y con el que se me pasó el tiempo volando. Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1, de James Tynion IV, con arte de Werther Dell'Edera y Miguel Muerto, fue una muy buena lectura. ¡Gracias a la editorial por la copia!

La historia abre muy bien. La idea carece de originalidad en este punto, pero el desarrollo es lo suficientemente sólido como para mantener al lector enfocado en la trama, aunque es más que todo un atractivo basado en el arte poco estilizado.

Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1 sorprende más bien poco, pero presenta personajes interesantes, a pesar de los clichés que estos representan. Me parece que James Tynion IV apostó más a lo comercial para enganchar con estos primeros cinco capítulos, antes de mostrar qué realmente puede ofrecer esta serie. Hay muchos cabos sueltos, eso sí hay que mencionarlo. Hay que esperar a que las cosas se expliquen mejor en los próximos números.

Werther Dell'Edera y Miguel Muerto hicieron un buen trabajo con el arte. El estilo rústico y descuidado de las páginas va muy bien con el tono crudo de la historia. No es muy gráfico, o por lo menos no se siente así, gracias al tipo de dibujo y los muchos tonos oscuros, pero la historia mantiene una estética decadente atrapante.

Se podría decir que Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1 es un inicio seguro para un serie prometedora, pero es muy temprano para ello. Hay potencial y un equipo creativo que sabe lo que hace, solo que estos primeros cinco número hizo falta un gancho, algo más interesante. Cuestión de tiempo, supongo.

Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters. That is all she does, and she bears the cost because it must be done.

The story opens very well. The idea lacks originality at this point, but the development is solid enough to keep the reader focused on the plot, though it's more of an appel based mainly on little-stylized art.

Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1 surprises rather little, but presents interesting characters, despite the cliches they represent. It seems to me that James Tynion IV bet more on the commercial to hook up with these first five issues, before showing what this series can really offer. There are many loose ends, that must be mentioned. We have to wait for things to be explained better in the next issues.

Werther Dell'Edera and Miguel Muerto did a good job with art. The rustic and sloppy style of the pages goes very well with the raw tone of the story. It's not very graphic, or at least it doesn't feel that way, thanks to the type of drawing and the many dark shades, but the story maintains an engaging decadent aesthetic.

You could say that Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1 is a safe start to a promising series, but it's too early for it. There is potential and a creative team that knows what they are doing, only that these first five issues needed a hook, something more interesting. A matter of time I guess.

Evanescence - Wasted On You: Nuevo álbum en camino / New album on the way

El próximo álbum de la banda, The Bitter Truth,
está previsto a lanzarse este año.

Buen día, gente. Espero que estén muy bien.

Técnicamente hoy no tocaba publicar nada, pero luego de ver el nuevo video de Evanescence se hizo necesidad escribir al respecto. He sido fanático de esta banda desde hace años, como muchos de sus seguidores, y crecí con su música. Enterarme de que se venía un nuevo álbum fue muy buena noticia, pero mejor fue escuchar que Wasted On You, el primer sencillo, llegaría el viernes, o sea ayer.

La banda apostó a lo arriesgado al estrenarse con una balada de rock, invirtiendo la fórmula que aplicaban desde su formación. Fallen se estrenó con Bring Me To Life y cerró con My Immortal, luego The Open Door con Call Me When You're Sober y Good Enough, y finalmente, en su álbum homónimo, con What You Want y Lost in Paradise. Algunos no incluirían Synthesis por no ser un "álbum de estudio", pero sigue una tónica similar con Imperfection y Hi-Lo. Wasted On You cambia esta estructura, aunque está por verse si para bien o para mal.

La letra es bastante directa, manteniendo la escencia de la banda. A diferencia de The Chain, en donde la voz de Amy Lee dejaba de ser el foco, aquí destaca una vez más con un canto acusador y dolido. Sus palabras hacen reflexionar sobre relaciones pasados y los propios errores que aún no nos perdonamos. Sencillo, pero efectivo.

Musicalmente, es una balada de rock poderosa, que a pesar de no llegar al drama de otras, como Lacrymosa (ni hablar de la versión de Synthesis; aunque es otro género), transmite la misma fortaleza que la letra. Creo que no teníamos un sencillo de este tipo desde... My Immortal, y podría indicar que Evanescence vuelve a sus inicios como una banda de rock, pero mucho más madura, con un concepto más sólido y una propuesta diferente.

No obstante, el video decepciona. Falto de creatividad y gracia muestra a los miembros cumpliendo el distanciamiento social igual que todos. No hay historia, tema, propuesta, ni nada como en otros momentos. Puede que la banda quisiera hacer algo al estilo Lost in Paradise, un material visualmente sencillo y con el que sus fans pudieran identificarse, pero considerando que hemos tenido un álbum de metal desde el 2011, ver algo tan sencillo es casi un mal chiste. No puedo evitar pensar que este hubiese sido el momento perfecto para un video animado, cosa que habría sorprendido bastante.

Tocará esperar a ver qué más trae la banda. The Bitter Truth, álbum al que pertenece este sencillo, saldrá en algún momento de 2020. Nos toca estar pendientes para saber fechas y detalles, pero Evanescence está de vuelta y es lo que más importa.

Technically today there was nothing to publish, but after seeing the new video of Evanescence it was necessary to write about it. I have been a fan of this band for years, like many of its followers, and grew up with their music. Finding out that a new album was coming was very good news, but it was better to hear that Wasted On You, the first single, would arrive on Friday, or yesterday.

The band bet on the risky by debuting with a rock ballad, reversing the formula they applied since its formation. Fallen premiered with Bring Me To Life and closed with My Immortal, then The Open Door with Call Me When You're Sober and Good Enough, and finally, on their self-titled album, What You Want and Lost in Paradise. Some would not include Synthesis for not being a "studio album", but it follows a similar trend with Imperfection and Hi-Lo. Wasted On You changes this structure, although it remains to be seen whether for better or for worse.

The lyrics are quite direct, maintaining the essence of the band. Unlike The Chain, where Amy Lee's voice was no longer the focus, here she stands out once again with an accusing and painful singing. His words reflect on past relationships and our own mistakes that we have not yet forgive ourselves. Simple, but effective.

Musically, it is a powerful rock ballad, which despite not reaching the drama of others, such as Lacrymosa (not to mention the version of Synthesis; although it is another genre), transmits the same strength as the lyrics. I think we haven't had a single of this kind since ... My Immortal, and it could indicate that Evanescence returns to its beginnings as a rock band, but much more mature, with a more solid concept and a different proposal.

However, the video disappoints. Lack of creativity and grace shows the members fulfilling the social distance like everyone else. There is no story, theme, proposal, or anything like at other times. The band may have wanted to do something like Lost in Paradise, a visually simple material that their fans could identify with, but considering that we've had a metal album since 2011, seeing something so simple is almost a bad joke. I can't help but think that this would have been the perfect time for an animated video, which would have been quite surprising.

We will have to wait to see what else the band brings. The Bitter Truth, album to which this single belongs, will be released sometime in 2020. We have to watch for dates and details, but Evanescence is back and it is what matters most.

Doom Patrol T1E7 / S1E7: Therapy Patrol

¡Buenos días, Nocturnos! Por primera vez, creí que no podría ver Doom Patrol esta semana: No tuve electricidad desde las 09:00 AM hasta casi las 10:00 PM. Si, justo cuando mi serie terminaba, pero la suerte estuvo de mi lado porque en la tarde fui a casa de mi tía. Nada ni nadie se entromete entre un nerd y sus series.

En Therapy Patrol, todo el equipo se desmorona gracias al Sr. Don Nadie. Los traumas del pasado, los errores del presente y el miedo hacia el futuro finalmente toman contral de los personajes de distintas manera, haciendo que cada uno se cuestione lo que sabe, lo que ha hecho y lo que busca. Cliff decide tomar las riendas del asunto y hacer que el grupo confiese, uno a uno, aquello que lo tortura. Más de uno saldrá lastimado, y no físicamente.

Tengo que decir que este es el guión que estaba esperado desde hace varios episodios. Diálogos fuertes, escenas contundentes, una trama muy bien elaborada y con detalles cuidados hasta el más mínimo. Un episodio que fue directo al grano y que nos mostró un lado de los personajes que queríamos ver desde hace rato.

La mezcla de drama y humor fue un buen gancho. Fue un episodio lleno de flashbacks y distintas percepciones que hicieron que el tiempo se me pasara volando. Mucha comedia, ironía y sarcasmo, aderezados con la dosis correcta de tensión.

El desarrollo de los miembros de Doom Patrol es evidente, por lo que este episodio abre la puerta a que suceda igual con la historia. No me quedan dudas de que así será, y solo espero que esta calidad se mantenga. Incluso el final, cargado con un humor negro, le dio un giro sorpresivo a la trama. Therapy Patrol devolvió a esta serie al camino correcto.

Good morning, Nighters! For the first time, I thought I wouldn't be able to see Doom Patrol this week: I had no electricity from 09:00 AM until almost 10:00 PM. Yes, just when my series was ending, but luck was on my side because in the afternoon I went to my aunt's house. Nothing and nobody gets between a nerd and his series.

In Therapy Patrol, the entire team falls apart thanks to Mr. Nobody. The traumas of the past, the errors of the present and the fear of the future finally take against the characters in different ways, making each one question what they know, what they have done and what they are looking for. Cliff decides to take charge of the matter and make the group confess, one by one, what tortures them. More than one will be hurt, and not physically.

I have to say that this is the script I've been waiting for for several episodes. Strong dialogues, forceful scenes, a very well elaborated plot and with careful details down to the smallest. An episode that was straight to the point and that showed us a side of the characters that we wanted to see for a while.

The mix of drama and humor was a good hook. It was an episode full of flashbacks and different perceptions that made time fly by. Lots of comedy, irony and sarcasm, seasoned with the right dose of tension.

The development of the Doom Patrol members is evident, so this episode opens the door to the same thing happening with the story. I have no doubt that this will be the case, and I only hope that this quality is maintained. Even the ending, laden with black humor, took a surprising twist to the plot. Therapy Patrol put this series back on the right track.

Directo al grano: el guión de Vita Ayala es malo, muy malo. Carece de drama, desarrollo, coherencia en la trama, por no mencionar que muchos de los diálogos son inaguantables. Me pasé todo el tiempo pensando “ahora vendrá algo bueno, ya viene, tiene que venir,” pero me quedé esperando. Tenemos a un vampiro llorón que se lamenta en todas las páginas como si fuera un bebé Victoriano y una suerte de “heroína” cuyos orígenes nunca nos son explicados.

Hablando de algo más positivo, el arte no estuvo mal. Marcelo Ferreira le inyectó una buena dosis de emoción y sentimientos a un guión desabrido con paneles atractivos, escenas elaboradas y planos dinámicos. Fue mi motivación principal para terminar de leer, junto con los colores de Dono Sánchez-Almara, aunque hubo una escena en el último capítulo que se veía horrorosa.

Por lo que más quieran, quédense lejos de esta serie tan desastrosa. Tenía altas expectativas con Morbius, pero este es un ejemplo de que a veces lo nuevo no es tan bueno. Probaré suerte con una serie anterior, y cruzo los dedos esperando que haya algo mejor porque el personaje está muy bien hecho.

This Monday I spoke about the Morbius movie that Sony's preparing and that looks very good. I thought about giving this vampire a chance and seeing what it was all about, getting a better idea of ​​the character before watching the movie, and… It sucks, at least the most recent series, written by Vita Ayala and with art by Marcelo Ferreira, Robeto Poggi and Dono Sánchez-Almara.

Straight to the point: Vita Ayala's script is bad, very bad. It lacks drama, development, coherence in the plot, not to mention that many of the dialogues are unbearable. I spent all the time thinking "now something good will come, it is coming, it has to come," but I kept waiting. We have a whiny vampire who laments on every page as if he were a Victorian baby and a sort of "heroine" whose origins are never explained to us.

Speaking of something more positive, art was not bad. Marcelo Ferreira and Robeto Poggi injected a good dose of emotion and feeling into a bland script with engaging panels, elaborate scenes, and dynamic shots. It was my main motivation to finish reading, along with the colors of Dono Sánchez-Almara, although there was a scene in the last chapter that looked horrible.

For love to whatever you love the most, stay away from this disastrous series. I had high expectations with Morbius, but this is an example that sometimes new is not so good. I will try my luck with a previous series, and I cross my fingers hoping that there's something better because the character is very well done.

Wolvenheart #2

• Español: Estoy muy, muy adicto a este cómic. La historia es interesante y el arte es precioso, pero esta portada, con Elizabeth Báthory saliendo de una catarata de sangre, es una belleza mórbida. Estoy esperando con ansias el último número de esta serie para reseñarla, pero de antemano les digo que es buena a pesar de los altibajos.
• English: I am very, very addicted to this comic. The story is interesting and the art is great, but this cover, with Elizabeth Bathory emerging from a waterfall of blood, is a morbid beauty. • ES: Aplican las mismas razones de antes. Los colores me encantan, pero el dibujo caricaturesco con la pose amenazadora de Pinocho hacen un segundo contraste que me gusta mucho. Amad esta portada, os lo ordeno.

• ES: Amé esta serie por un largo tiempo, y a pesar de que el guión ha decaído demasiado últimamente, las portadas son excelentes. Esta tiene un aura de fantasía oscura erótica que me encanta. Una belleza.

• ES: Otra historia que leí tiempo atrás. Las portadas no me gustaron mucho, aunque las páginas son preciosas, pero esta es visualmente adictiva. Podría quedarme largo rato viéndola.

• ES: También la leí hace tiempo, pero la estética a lo vieja-escuela me encanta. Refleja muy bien la decadencia y los sentimientos de la historia, aunque no suelo consumir cómics con este tipo de arte.

• ES: Tengo algo con las portadas de tonos morados, por si no es obvio. Desde que vi la portada, supe que tenía que leer esta historia, y estoy esperando a que termine de ser publicado al menos el primer arco para reseñarla. Mientras tanto, ¿no les encanta el arte?

• ES: La historia como tal fue... extraña. Necesita una continuación y ya ha tardado bastante, lo cual es una lástima considerando lo oscura, interesante y entretenida que es esta serie, aspectos que la portada refleja muy bien.

• ES: Dejando de lado el pésimo guión, las portadas son una maravilla. Pareciera que estamos ante un cómic de horror de alta calidad, los colores son asombrosos y tiene un aire de Castlevania de Netflix imposible de no amar. Fuera de eso, la serie apesta; esperemos que la película sea mejor.
