Ya saben que soy fan de Castlevania de Netflix. Es una serie de la que no puedo tener suficiente, bien hecha, con guiones increíbles, grandes voces y, la mejor parte, un arte impresionante. El diseño de los personajes, los fondos, los colores, los paisajes, todo lo que tenga que ver con las imágenes es simplemente perfecto, así que obtuve una copia de Castlevania: The Art of the Animated Series, por Frederator Studios, tan pronto como pude. No me arrepiento de nada.

Obviamente es un libro que se puede leer de una sentada, y eso es lo que me pasó a mí, pero la impresión es duradera, impulsando tu creatividad y amor por la serie en igual medida.

Había varias páginas de evolución que mostraban los cambios en diferentes diseños, desde personajes hasta objetos, junto con el proceso de producción, cómo cambia una imagen en las diferentes etapas de producción. Sabía que habría mucho trabajo en ello, ¡pero no estaba preparado para cuánto! Este no es solo un libro hermoso, sino también útil, ya que le ofrece una idea de lo que implica trabajar en una serie como esta.

Me hubiera gustado un poco más de texto, eso es seguro, tal vez algunas entrevistas con los creadores, los productores, algunas de las personas involucradas en dar vida a este programa, pero hay varios comentarios y especificaciones aquí y allá. Esta es ciertamente mi propia preferencia, debo admitirlo, y no tiene nada que ver con la calidad del material.

You already know I'm a fan of Netflix's Castlevania. It's a series I can't get enough of, well-done, with amazing scripts, great voices, and, the best part, breath-taking art. The characters' design, the backgrounds, the colors, the landscapes, anything that has to do with the visuals is just perfect, and so I got a copy of Castlevania: The Art of the Animated Series, by Frederator Studios, as soon as I could. I regret nothing.

I've never had an art book before, and so this was a whole new experience for me. However, not because of that I felt I missed something or couldn't appreciate certain parts of it. It's obviously a book that can be read in one sitting, and that's what happened to me, but the impression is long-lasting, boosting your creativity and love for the show in equal measure.

There were several evolution pages that showed the changes in different designs, from characters to objects, along with the production process, how an image changes in the different stages of production. I knew there would be a lot of work on it, but I wasn't prepared for how much! This is not only a beautiful book, but also useful as it offers you and insight into what working in a show like this entails.

I would have liked a bit more text, that's for sure, maybe some interviews with the creators, the producers, some of the people involved in bringing this show to life, but there are several comments and specification here and there. This is certainly my own preference, I have to admit, and has nothing to do with the quality of the material.

However, it's a book I'll be going back to. Castlevania: The Art of the Animated Series is a book that gave me a lot of ideas, the images made me think about different things, improved my creativity, and give some kind of guide on how to develop concepts and stories, characters and developments. Gorgeous, useful, and full of the gothic fantasy we love. There's not a reason not to get it!

No fui fan del principio. Se sintió apresurado, no tan sólido como prefiero, pero sentó las bases para una buena historia, y fue una buena historia. Empecé a sonreír y reír en poco tiempo. Hubo varias escenas que me gustaron, algunas graciosas, otras más dramáticas y otras más centradas en la trama y el desarrollo. Akari no me encantó como personaje, pero es fácil enamorarse de ella cuando le das una oportunidad.

También pude ver algo de mí en ella. Como un adulto con gustos peculiares, fue fácil relacionarse con su lucha por tratar de mantener todo en secreto, incluso sus esfuerzos por pagar todo y ser una adulta responsable. Algunos de esos elementos no fueron los mejores, me costó creer que algunas de las cosas pasarían así, ¡pero fueron entretenidos de todos modos!

El arte también fue agradable, reflejando todos los cambios de humor e impresiones, apoyando la narrativa cada vez que lo necesitaba. Me sorprendió lo simple que podía ser y aún así no perder nada de encanto, sin romper la atmósfera, ya fuera un fondo elaborado, o simplemente un diseño abstracto mientras los personajes lidiaban con sus emociones.

Kazama fue un mejor personaje para mí, todavía simple pero más desarrollado y con diferentes lados. Tengo curiosidad sobre su pasado, cómo es, conocerlo mejor, más aún después de ese cliffhanger, y obviamente lo mismo se aplica a Akari, qué hará, cómo cambiará su relación (aunque la portada del segundo volumen es un spoiler, ¡dicha sea la verdad! O eso parece). ¡Les mantendré al tanto!

I haven't read something that makes me laugh in a long time. When I read the synopsis for My Coworker Has a Secret! Volume 1, by Mushiro, I decided to give it a shot because it looked very entertaining, innocent, and promising. Said and done, it was a joyful and light read in equal measure. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

I wasn't a fan of the beginning. It felt rushed, not as solid as I prefer, but it set the ground for a good story, and a good story it was. I started smiling and laughing in no time. There were several scenes that I liked, some hilarious, some more dramatic, and some that were more plot and development-driven. Akari didn't charm me as a character, but it's easy to fall in love with her when you give her a chance.

I could see some of myself in her, also. As an adult with peculiar likes, it was easy to relate with her struggle to try to keep everything a secret, even her efforts to pay for everything and be a responsible adult. Some of those elements weren't the best, I had a hard time believing some of the things would happen like that, but they're entertaining nonetheless!

The art was also nice, reflecting all the mood changes and impressions, supporting the narrative every single time it needed to. It surprised me how simple it could be and still not lose any charm, not breaking the atmosphere, whether it was an elaborate background, or just an abstract design while the characters dealt with their emotions.

Kazama was a better character for me, still simple but more developed and with different sides. I'm curious about his background, what he's like, get to know him better, even more after that cliffhanger, and obviously the same applies to Akari, what she'll do, how their relationship will change (although the cover of the second volume is a spoiler, truth be told! Or so it seems like). I'll keep you updated!

Sabía que iba a ser impactante, que iba a ser fuerte, pero no pensé que fuese tan brutal. Es un libro que no escatima en detalles, que no se queda corto en las experiencias de la autora, pero que ofrece una luz al final del túnel.

Hay momentos en que tuve que detenerme para tomar aire, porque es fuerte. Muy fuerte.

A pesar de que Jennette hace chistes de humor negro en todo momento sobre sus recuerdos, no les resta seriedad en ningún momento. Es un estilo doble que se lee muy natural, muy orgánico. Se trata de un libro honesto, y me cuesta decir que es entretenido porque no es fácil leer sobre los traumas de una persona, mucho menos de este tipo, pero es imposible parar.

Tuve la suerte de ir a un evento en donde Jennette se presentó para responder preguntar y hablar de sus experiencias, y la persona que aparece en el escenario y la que escribió este libro son la misma. Hay una identidad marcada, una personalidad ya establecida luego de esos años perdida dentro de sí misma, y es algo que no es fácil de lograr. El libro se encarga de dejarlo en claro. Todo esto resulta en una lectura inspiradora y alentadora.

Para aquellos de nosotros con nuestros propios problemas de salud mental, aquellos de nosotros que vamos a terapia, Jennette es una figura con la que podemos identificarnos. I'm Glad My Mom Died empieza como un libro, se vuelve amigo, y pasa a ser compañero de viaje. Puedo decir que te cambia la vida porque te recuerda que no estás solo en tu recuperación, y esa es la parte más importante en terapia, saber que no somos los únicos sufriendo y que, aunque esa sea nuestra realidad por ahora, no estamos destinados a sufrir. I'm speechless. I expected a strong story after reading some fragments before the book came out, but the experience of reading so many details and traumatic experiences, all the mistreatment, abuse, manipulation of a mother, and the consequences that they left on her own daughter, it's heartbreaking. There are times when I had to stop to catch my breath, because it's hard. Very hard.

Despite the fact that Jennette makes black humor jokes at all times about her memories, she does not diminish their seriousness at any time. It is a double style that reads very natural, very organic. It's an honest book, and it's hard for me to say that it's entertaining because it isn't easy to read about a person's traumas, much less of this type, but it's impossible to stop.

I was lucky enough to go to an event where Jennette showed up to answer questions and talk about her experiences, and the person on stage and the person who wrote this book are the same. There's a marked identity, a personality already established after those years lost within herself, and it's something that is not easy to achieve. The book makes it clear. All of this makes for an inspiring and encouraging read.

For those of us with our own mental health issues, those of us going to therapy, Jennette is a relatable figure. I'm Glad My Mom Died starts out as a book, turns into a friend, and becomes a traveling companion. I can say it's life-changing because it reminds you that you are not alone in your recovery, and that's the most important part of therapy, knowing that we're not the only ones suffering and that, although that's our reality for now, we are not destined to suffer. We have the right to be happy.

Hoy vengo con un libro particular. No solo es un poemario gótico con encanto, sino que está ilustrado de manera impecable. Una obra de arte, en pocas palabras, para perderse mientras lees y miras página tras página sin preocuparte por nada más que la experiencia. Se trata de Poems from the Attic, por Morgan Nikola-Wren.

De la nominada a Goodreads Choice, Morgan Nikola-Wren, llega una colección de "poemas sin hogar", algunos cortados de proyectos anteriores y futuros, algunos olvidados brevemente. Reunido en una compilación de 95 páginas con imágenes que lo acompañan, "Poems from the Attic" es a la vez juguetón y pensativo. Es una carta de amor al lector, chamuscada en los bordes y arrugada muchas veces. Es un paseo por el proceso creativo y una oda a los lugares sombríos y silenciosos que todos llevamos dentro.

La lectura fue una experiencia bastante completa. Tanto los poemas como los diseños me atraparon. Es sencillo, fácil de disfrutar, y con pasajes que encantan lo suficiente como para releerlos varias veces. Perfecto para pasar el rato disfrutando de una lectura ligera, también te pone a pensar y soñar despierto sin darte cuenta, dejando que se pase el tiempo.

Hay un encanto gótico en todos los diseños, además, simple sin llegar al insufrible minimalista, ni tan detallado que llega a ser sobrecargado o abrumador. Son lo suficientemente sólidos como para sostenerse por sí sola, combinando fotografía, diseño, y un estilo retro que le suma encanto a la lectura. Diría que incluso le aporta una dosis de humor negro en algunas partes.

Como en cualquier antología, y más aún en una como esta, no hay mucha relación entre los poemas más allá de la estética y el diseño que llevan, entonces es bastante heterogénea. La diversidad de estilo y contenido es un arma de doble filo aquí, más que todo porque me salí de la lectura cuando los cambios eran más bruscos.

En líneas generales, muy bueno. Bastante. Poems from the Attic se disfruta más allá de la lectura. Te deja un sabor dulce al terminar, igual que esos postres de los que no sabías que esperar. Fue una sorpresa inusual llena de emociones, pensamientos, y realidad, lo suficientemente atractiva como para querer leer a la autora una vez más

From Goodreads Choice nominee, Morgan Nikola-Wren comes a collection of "homeless poems," some cut from previous and upcoming projects, some briefly forgotten. Gathered into a 95 page compilation with accompanying images, "Poems from the Attic" is at once playful and pensive. It is a love letter to the reader, singed at the edges and creased many times over. It is a walk through the creative process and an ode to the shadowy, quiet places we all carry inside of us.

Reading was quite a complete experience. Both the poems and the designs caught me. It's simple, easy to enjoy, and with passages that are enchanting enough to reread them several times. Perfect for passing the time enjoying a light read, it also makes you think and daydream without realizing it, letting time pass by.

There's a gothic charm to all of the designs, also, simple without being insufferably minimalist, nor so detailed as to be overloaded or overwhelming. They're solid enough to stand on their own, combining photography, design, and a retro style that adds charm to reading. I would say that it even adds a dose of black humor in some parts.

As in any anthology, and even more so in one like this one, there's not much relationship between the poems beyond the aesthetics and the design they carry, so it's quite heterogeneous. The diversity of style and content is a double-edged sword here, mainly because I got out of reading when the changes were more abrupt.

In general, very good. Very. Poems from the Attic is enjoyed beyond reading. It leaves a sweet taste at the end, just like those desserts you didn't know what to expect from. It was an unusual surprise full of emotions, thoughts, and reality, attractive enough to want to read the author one more time.

Estos días estuve leyendo una novela a la que le tenía muchas ganas y de la que he escuchado solo alabanzas. A Dowry of Blood, por S.T. Gibson, me devolvió el amor por los vampiros y el terror. Es una novela adictiva que te pone a pensar de principio a fin y te acelera el pulso en segundos.

Aunque hay muchas personas catalogando este libro de romántico, quiero dejar algo en claro. No. Lo. Es. Hay abuso, maltrato, manipulación, violencia, y pare usted de contar. Es una historia de terror hecha y derecha, de esas que te mantienen despierto hasta tarde, y si bien hay momentos en que pareciera que todo va bien, les cuento que no. Las cosas empeoran con el tiempo para Constanta, Magdalena, y Alexi.

Tengo que aplaudir la creatividad de la autora. Es una historia entretenida y que no defrauda. Sí escuché que el final era debatible, y es cierto que me esperaba algo diferente, pero es muy adecuado por el tipo de historia que cuenta. Aquí entra la verdadera habilidad, el poder darle a la historia el cierre que se merece en lugar de lo dictan las tendencias.

Si bien también me gusta el estilo, llega un momento en que la narración se vuelve pesada. Es difícil avanzar porque todas las líneas llevan una carga dramática intensa, demasiada, entonces pierde fuerza, impacto. No diría que se vuelve tedioso, o fastidioso, pero sí débil. Aunque impulsó el inicio, se volvió algo común, sin mucha gracia, hasta que finalmente alcanzó el punto medio que me permitió seguir.

Un buen detalle de la edición que leí, la estadounidense por lo que parece, es que incluye el relato An Encore of Roses, el libro 1.5 en la saga. Los personajes evolucionan en todo momento, pero este relato lo muestra bajo una luz diferente, más madura, más realista. Con una trama que te enamora, un trío fascinante, y el encanto de los clásicos góticos, esta novela es fácil una de mis favoritas de este año.

These days I was reading a novel I really wanted and from which I have only heard praise. A Dowry of Blood, by S.T. Gibson, gave me back my love for vampires and horror. It's an addictive novel that makes you think from start to finish and makes your pulse race in seconds.

Although there are many people classifying this book as romantic, I want to make something clear. It. Is. Not. There's abuse, mistreatment, manipulation, violence, and so on and on. It's a full-fledged horror story, one of those that keep you up late, and although there are times when it seems that everything's going well, I tell you that it is not. Things get worse over time for Constanta, Magdalena, and Alexi.

I have to applaud the creativity of the author. It's an entertaining story that doesn't disappoint. I did hear that the ending was debatable, and it's true that I expected something different, but it's very appropriate for the type of story it tells. This is where true skill comes in, being able to give the story the closure it deserves instead of dictated by trends.

While I also like the style, there comes a point when the storytelling gets heavy. It's difficult to advance because all the lines carry an intense dramatic charge, too much, then it loses strength, impact. I wouldn't say that it becomes tedious, or annoying, but weak. Although it jumpstarted the start, it became mundane, unfunny, until it finally hit the midpoint that allowed me to continue.

A good detail of the edition that I read, from the US it seems, is that it includes the story An Encore of Roses, book 1.5 in the saga. The characters evolve all the time, but this story shows them in a different, more mature, more realistic light. With a plot that makes you fall in love, a fascinating trio, and the charm of the Gothic classics, this novel is easily one of my favorites this year.
