Hace algunos días tomé una decisión más sencilla de lo que creí. Decidí retirar varios de mis libros.

Aunque han sido una importante parte demi crecimiento como escritor y persona, ya no me representan. No es el tipo de contenido o estilo por el que quiero que me conozcan de hoy en adelante. Así que saqué varios de mis libros de la venta y todos de Wattpad.

Hay otras historias en las que quiero concentrarme, otro tipo de contenido e ideas. Es algo en lo que he pensado muchísimo, y aunque tuve sentimientos encontrados desde el inicio, ahora que finalmente lo hice me siento más ligero que antes.

Esas historias siempre estarán conmigo, son invaluables para mí, pero no puedo sentirme bien sabiendo que no están al nivel de lo que quiero hacer. Más adelante puede que vuelva a ellas, o puede que sean solo recuerdos. Pero por ahora estoy feliz y cómodo con lo que tengo disponible.

Justo ahora estoy trabajando, igual que siempre, y dedicándole tiempo a mis proyectos. Y así me siento excelentemente bien.

A few days ago I made a decision that was easier than I thought. I decided to retire several of my books.

Although they've been an important part of my growth as a writer and person, they no longer represent me. It's not the type of content or style I want to be known for from now on. So I pulled several of my books from sale and all from Wattpad.

There are other stories I want to focus on, other types of content and ideas. It's something I've thought about a lot, and although I had mixed feelings from the beginning, now that I've finally done it I feel lighter than before.

Those stories will always be with me, they are invaluable to me, but I can't feel good knowing that they're not at the level of what I want to do. Later I may come back to them, or they may just be memories. But for now I'm happy and comfortable with what I have available.

Right now I'm working, as always, and dedicating time to my projects. And I feel excellent like that.

Comic: Elles (Serie)

Hace poco tuve la oportunidad de leer algo diferente a lo que suelo leer. Si bien soy amante del terror, también amo la fantasía y los temas sociales. Leer Elles, por Kid Toussaint y Stokart Aveline, fue una forma de reconectarme con mi niño interior y recordarle al adulto lo que me importa. Todo ello acompañado también de una encantadora y saludable dosis de fantasía.

Si bien fue una historia muy simple, incluye temas complejos y profundos como la identidad, la adolescencia, la salud mental, una estructura familiar diferente y hasta el suicidio. Sin embargo, es ideal para todo público por la forma en que trabaja con ellos. Aunque no es posible explorarlos en profundidad, sí presenta una realidad que muchos han experimentado (ejem, ¿yo?)

Con un guión sólido que genera tensión y al mismo tiempo con suficiente espacio para desarrollar diferentes personajes de una manera que los haga sentir humanos, más cercanos a ti, es fácil encariñarse y leer todo en una sentada. Tampoco puedo quejarme del arte porque se describe exactamente como lo que es. Agrega un aire de inocente asombro a todo el producto que cautiva desde la primera página.

Siento que los problemas de salud mental que forman parte de la trama podrían haberse manejado mejor, aunque admito que puede iniciar la conversación sobre esos temas. Los presenta también de una manera sencilla, lo que a mí no me funciona mucho, para ser honesto. El final de la serie sufrió por eso, aunque todavía había algunas emociones y mucho en juego.

En definitiva, es una historia divertida y dulce que te ayuda a ver las cosas desde un punto de vista diferente y al mismo tiempo te permite desconectarte del mundo real. Sin embargo, sí alimenta tu deseo de hacer algo en la vida real, algo que sea significativo, amable, y útil. Es una de esas lecturas que te ayudan a poner las cosas en perspectiva sin que eso afecte lo entretenido que es.

A little time ago I had the chance to read something different to what I usually read. While I'm a lover of horror, I also love fantasy and social issues. Reading Elles, by Kid Toussaint and Stokart Aveline, was a way to reconnect with my inner child and remind the adult about what I care about. All of it also came with a lovely, healthy dose of fantasy.

• Synopsis of the first volume:

Elle is just another teenage girl... most of the time. Bubbly and good-natured, she wastes no time making friends on her first day at her new school. But Elle has a secret: she hasn't come alone. She's brought with her a colorful mix of personalities, which come out when she least expects it... Who is Elle, really? And will her new friends stand by her when they find out the truth?

ABLAZE proudly presents Elle(s), a vibrant, imaginative new series. Featuring brilliant, Pixar-esque art from Aveline Stokart, and an engaging story by Kid Toussaint that brings moments of real emotion, mystery, intrigue and humor together during the epic highs and lows of high school.

While it was a very simple story, it includes complex and deep topics such as identity, being a teenager, mental health, a different family structure, and even suicide. It is family friendly, however, for the way it works with them. Although it's not possible to explore them in depth, it does present a reality that many have experienced (ahem, me?)

With a solid script that builds tension while also with enough room to develop different characters in a way that makes them feel human, closer to you, it's easy to get attached and read everything in one sitting. I can't complain about the art either because it's described exactly for what it is. It adds an air of innocent wonder to the whole product that it charms you from the very first page.

I do feel the mental health issues part of the plot could have been better-handled, although I admit it can get the conversation started about those topics. It presents them also in a simple way, which doesn't work that much for me, to be honest. The ending of the serie suffered because of that, although there were still some emotions and high stakes regardless.

All in all, it's a funny, sweet story that helps you see things from a different point of view while also allowing you to disconnect from the real world. However, it does fuel your desire to do something in real life, something that is meaningful, kind, and helpful. It's one of those readings that help you put things on perspective without that affecting how entertaining it is.

Manga: My Ultramarine Sky

Hace poco leí otro manga que me gustó mucho. Y de la misma mangaka de la que les hablé hace poco. Sigue siendo un historia escolar con drama y humor, pero mejor trabajada, con mejor desarrollo, y personajes que me atraparon desde el primer momento. Se trata de My Ultramarine Sky, por Nagisa Furuya. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Desde el primer año de media hasta el segundo año de secundaria, Kai y Ren no solo siempre han estado en la misma clase, sino que también siempre se han sentado uno al lado del otro. Pero en su último año de escuela secundaria, los chicos son asignados a dos clases separadas, y cada día que pasa, Kai siente como si se estuviera alejando cada vez más de Ren... Un día, cuando Kai encuentra a Ren durmiendo en un salón de clases después de la escuela, susurra los sentimientos que no puede expresar en voz alta... y Ren lo escucha. ¿La confesión de Kai los alejará cada vez más, o será la chispa que los hará volver a encontrarse una vez más?

Oficialmente soy fan de esta mujer. Si bien es cierto que ya se nota cuáles son las historias que se pueden esperar de ella, esta vez lo hizo mucho mejor que la vez anterior. Es la típica historia de amor de los amigos de la infancia en el que uno resulta sentir algo más por el otro, pero trabajada de una manera que la hace sentirse nueva.

El arte de Nagisa también mejoró en este volumen, dándole más vida a los personajes y trabajando mejor la atmófera en diferentes escenas. Hubo momentos emotivos que se sintieron suficientemente genuinos como para hacerme contener la respiración. Todos los detalles están bien cuidados, dando un resultado más sólido.

Siento que la historia podría haber dado más de sí de alguna forma. Bien sea siendo un poco más extensa, aunque no una serie de varios volumenes, o con algo que la haga más original. No me malinterpreten: me gustan algunos clichés si son bien trabajados, y Nagisa indudablemente lo hizo con esta historia, pero le faltaba algo adicional que le diera más personalidad.

Con todo esto, es una historia preciosa de autodescubrimiento, honestidad, amistad, y miedos. Tanto Ren como Kai me gustaron como personajes, y el desarrollo estuvo mejor que antes. Es una lectura perfecta para soñar despierto por un buen rato y dejarse llevar por las emociones que a veces se mantienen escondidas. Definitivamente recomendado.

I recently read another manga that I really liked. And from the same mangaka I told you about recently. It is still a school story with drama and humor, but better worked, with better development, and characters that caught me from the first moment. From their first year of middle school to their second year of high school, Kai and Ren have not only always been in the same class—they’ve also always sat next to each other. But in their last year of high school, the boys are assigned to two separate classes, and with each passing day, Kai feels as if he’s slipping further and further away from Ren… One day, when Kai finds Ren sleeping in a classroom after school, he whispers the feelings that he can’t bring himself to say out loud… and Ren hears him. Will Kai’s confession draw them further and further apart, or will it be the spark that brings them back to each other once more?

I am officially a fan of this woman. While it is true that you can already see what stories to expect from her, this time she did much better than the previous time. It's the typical love story of childhood friends in which one turns out to feel something more for the other, but she worked it in a way that makes it feel new.

Nagisa's art also improved in this volume, giving more life to the characters and better working on the atmosphere in different scenes. There were emotional moments that felt genuine enough to make me hold my breath. All the details are well taken care of, giving a more solid result.

I feel like the story could have given more of itself in some way. Either being a little more extensive, although not a series of several volumes, or with something that makes it more original. Don't get me wrong: I like some clichés if they're done well, and Nagisa undoubtedly nailed that with this story, but it was missing something extra to give it more personality.

With all this, it's a beautiful story of self-discovery, honesty, friendship, and fears. I liked both Ren and Kai as characters, and the development was better than before. It's a perfect read to daydream for a long time and let yourself be carried away by the emotions that sometimes remain hidden. Definitely recommended.

Manga: Number Call

Seguimos con las reseñas de manga por aquí. Tuve oportunidad de leer una historia de amor sencilla pero entretenida que me hizo sonreír más de una vez. Con un arte dulce y un guión que captura la magia de la vida diaria, es un manga que creo a más de uno le gustará: Number Call, por Nagisa Furuya. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

El estudiante de secundaria Eighto Tachibana siempre ha odiado su nombre, incluidos todos los chistes y juegos de palabras sobre el número 8 que lo acompañan. Después de leer The Summer of You, no podía dejar pasar la oportunidad de leer el debut the Nagisa. La historia es dulce, enternecedora, con algunas dosis de drama y humor, y una dinámica de la cual es fácil enamorarse. Los dos personajes, aunque sencillos, se sienten genuinos en todo momento, haciendo que una historia común de la vida diaria se vuelva atrapante.

Hay algo en la sencillez del guión que se traduce en el arte. Ambos tienen ese aire de nostalgia, y a medida que los sentimientos salen a flote, el arte también se adapta al tono. Hay algo en la página que hace que toda la lectura se sienta fresca, aunque tampoco puedo decir que fue tan envolvente como esperaba que fuese.

Sin embargo, es un manga al que le falta originalidad. El desarrollo y el estilo de Nagisa Furuya estaban en desarrollo, y si bien es cierto que es una historia fácil de disfrutar, fuera del elemento del número, que viene a ser más bien algo secundario, no hay mucho que haga que destaque por sí sola. Es dulce, sí, y entretenida, también, pero no más que eso.

Perfecta para pasar el rato, Number Call es un romance sencillo sin mucha pena ni gloria que es fácil de disfrutar. Aunque idealizada en algunas escenas y predecible en algunas ocasiones, la trama se siente natural. La recomendaría a cualquiera que esté buscando algo ligero para olvidarse de la vida por un rato, aunque le falte originalidad.

It's as if the number has haunted him like a ghost ever since he was a child. One day, he meets a classmate named Tomoya Hatta, aka Hachi--the Japanese word for "8." What begins as casual greetings and small talk in the hallway soon becomes something much deeper, and Eighto realizes that it's more than just a similar nickname that draws him to Hachi. Could the number that Eighto resented for so long finally bring him something he'll love--and is that someone Hachi?

After reading The Summer of You, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to read Nagisa's debut. The story is sweet, touching, with some doses of drama and humor, and a dynamic that is easy to fall in love with. The two characters, although simple, feel genuine throughout, making a common story of daily life compelling.

There is something about the simplicity of the script that translates into the art. They both have that air of nostalgia, and as the feelings come to the surface, the art also adapts to the tone. There's something about the page that makes the whole read feel fresh, although I can't say it was as immersive as I hoped it would be.

However, it's a manga that lacks originality. Nagisa Furuya's development and style were in development, and while it is true that it's a story easy to enjoy, outside of the number element, which is more of a secondary thing, there's not much that makes it stand out on its own. It's sweet, yes, and entertaining, too, but no more than that.

Perfect to pass the time, Number Call is a simple, no-brainer romance that's easy to enjoy. Although idealized in some scenes and predictable at times, the plot feels natural. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something light to forget about life for a while, even if it lacks originality.

Manga: A Kingdom of Quartz 1

Aunque no he leído mucho manga últimamente, no tengo más que curiosidad, así que decidí intentarlo. En un mundo donde los ángeles protegen a la gente contra los demonios, una joven huérfana con alas negras puede tener la clave del destino del reino. Un manga de fantasía oscura exquisitamente dibujado para los fanáticos de Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Made in Abyss y Witch Hat Atelier.

Una niña huérfana llamada Blue siempre ha soñado con unirse a las filas de los nobles Ángeles, sirvientes del palacio flotante que protegen el Reino Cuarzo contra los demonios. Sin embargo, Blue no es como los demás niños del orfanato. Mientras que sus incipientes alas de ángel son de un blanco suave, las de Blue son completamente negras, dando lugar a susurros de que está maldita.

Un día, el orfanato es atacado por una multitud de demonios. Los ángeles descienden del palacio para hacer retroceder a los demonios, pero Blue observa con horror cómo son asesinados uno tras otro. Justo cuando todo parece perdido, Blue siente un poder oscuro brotando dentro de ella. Puede que sea suficiente para vengar a sus amigos... pero ¿será el coste demasiado alto?

Leí este manga de una sola vez. La idea es interesante y existe la posibilidad de darle un giro al cliché del "forastero con un poder inimaginable". Este primer volumen ya deja entrever cosas interesantes, aunque todavía es un poco predecible, pero es fácil disfrutarlo, sumergirse en este mundo y sentir curiosidad por él.

El arte también es hermoso, con una estética de ensueño que hace que todo parezca adorable pero mantiene esa atmósfera oscura en todo momento. Es ese contraste, a veces incluso una combinación equilibrada de elementos, lo que me atrajo la mayor parte del tiempo, además del guión y las ideas. Es todo tan limpio y fácil de seguir que me sentí como un niño descubriendo nuevamente la magia del manga.

Sin embargo, tuve una relación agridulce con el guión, debido a que era predecible y no tan original como quería que fuera. Hay buenos elementos y un desarrollo atractivo, pero ya puedo ver hacia dónde apuntan la mayoría de las cosas, y es cansado tener esa impresión una y otra vez.

Sin embargo, te recomiendo que le des una oportunidad. Es una bonita historia que te hace retroceder en el tiempo mientras habitas en ella, te hace sonreír mucho y te mantiene preguntándote qué pasará después. Me gustó Blue como personaje y espero verla convertirse en algo diferente a lo largo de la historia. Es demasiado pronto para decir algo al respecto, pero por ahora quiero mantener los ojos abiertos para el próximo volumen.

In a world where angels protect the people against demons, a young orphan with pitch-black wings may hold the key to the kingdom's fate. An exquisitely drawn, dark fantasy manga for fans of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Made in Abyss, and Witch Hat Atelier.

An orphaned girl named Blue has always dreamed of joining the ranks of the noble Angels, servants of the floating palace who protect the Quartz Kingdom against demons. Yet, Blue is not like the other children at the orphanage. Where their fledgling angel wings are downy white, Blue's are pitch black, giving rise to whispers that she is cursed.

One day, the orphanage comes under attack by a host of demons. Angels swoop down from the palace to drive the demons back, but Blue watches in horror as they are cut down one after another. Just when all seems lost, Blue feels a dark power welling up inside of her. It may be enough to avenge her friends...but will the cost prove too great?

I read this manga in one sitting. The idea is interesting and there's potential to have a twist on the "outsider with unimaginable power" cliché. This first volume already hints at interesting things, even if it's still a bit predictable, but it's easy to enjoy it, get immersed in this world, and get curious about it.

The art is also beautiful, with a dreamy aesthetic that makes it all look so adorable but keeps that dark atmosphere at all times. It is that contrast, at times even a balanced blend of elements, which drew me in most of the time, in addition to the script and the ideas. It is all so clean and easy to follow, I felt like a kid again discovering the magic of manga.

I did have a bittersweet relationship with the script, however, due to it being predictable and not as original as I wanted it to be. There are good elements and an engaging development, but I can already see where most of the things are pointing out, and it's tiresome to have this impression over and over again.

However, I do recommend that you give it a chance. It's a nice story that makes you go back in time as you dwell in it, makes you smile a lot, and keeps you wondering what will happen next. I liked Blue as a character and hope to see her growing into something different along with the story. It's too early to say anything about it, but for now, I want to keep my eyes open for the next volume.
