Buenas buenas, gente bonita. Hace unos meses intenté leer Killing Stalking, por Koogi, un manhwa que ha dado mucho de qué hablar en años recientes. Sé que vengo tarde a la lectura, el último volúmen en espa{ñol fue publicado en 2023, y el último en inglés en 2024. Aún así quiero dar mi opinión, y si leyeron mi impresión sobre Nunca te Dejaré y el Romance Oscuro, no creo que les sorprenda.
Antes que nada, la historia no es de romance. Es horror puro y duro. Es una lectura adulta con todas las de la ley que abusa del sexo y la sangre así como abusa a sus personajes. Cualquiera que me quiera decir que es un romance oscuro tiene un trastorno severo con quien no pienso discutir.
En pocas palabras, Killing Stalking es la historia de un acosador que se involucra con un asesino en serie quien lo manipula y abusa tanto como quiere. Los primeros dos volúmenes fueron interesantes, no lo voy a negar, pero ya el final se estaba volviendo cansado. El tercer volúmen fue el que me hizo abandonar la serie.
¿Por qué? Se supone que leo horror, que me gustan las historias fuertes, esas que incomodan. No hay nada de eso aquí. Tampoco encontré el atractivo psicológico que me gusta en este tipo de tramas, en donde te adentras a lo que los personajes piensan, sienten, cómo razonan lo que les pasa. No hay nada de eso. Solamente violaciones repetidas, manipulación, y sangre y tripas. De eso se trata todo.
Obviamente que cada quien es libre de leer lo que quiera. Es la belleza de la lectura. Ir a mundos diferentes y conocer personajes intrigantes. Sin embargo, sentí que leía el diario sensasionalista de un psicópata que no sabía contar una historia. Todo se queda en la superficie, todo es un poquito de intriga acá para hacerte creer que viene la gran revelación, solo para darte más tripas y más sangre y más violación ad nauseam.
De nuevo, el sexo y la sangre venden, pero fuera del sensacionalismo, ¿qué nos están vendiendo? ¿Una historia de superación/esperanza? ¿Un romance entretenido? ¿Personajes fascinantes con una psicología que atrapa? ¿Una trama que nos pone a pensar? La respuesta es no para todas las anteriores, con personajes vacíos y escenas y diálogos repetitivos que cansan.
Me pregunto qué es lo que hace que esta historia sea tan popular además de ser tan gráfica. Independientemente de eso, sé que no leeré más hasta que alguien pueda darme una buena razón para ello. Por ahora, tuve suficiente.

I know I'm late to reading, the last volume in Spanish was published in 2023, and the last one in English in 2024. Still, I want to give my opinion, and if you read my impression of Haunting Adeline and Dark Romance, I don't think it will surprise you.
First of all, the story is not a romance. It is pure and simple horror. It is a fully-fledged adult read that abuses sex and blood just as it abuses its characters. Anyone who wants to tell me that it is a dark romance has a severe disorder with whom I will not discuss.
Simply put, Killing Stalking is the story of a stalker who gets involved with a serial killer who manipulates and abuses him as much as he wants. The first two volumes were interesting, I won't deny it, but by the end it was getting tiring. The third volume was the one that made me abandon the series.
Why? I supposedly read horror, I like strong stories, those that make you uncomfortable. There's none of that here. I also didn't find the psychological appeal that I like in this type of plot, where you delve into what the characters think, feel, and how they reason about what happens to them. There is nothing like that. Just repeated rape, manipulation, and blood and guts. That's what it's all about.
Obviously everyone is free to read what they want. It's the beauty of reading. Go to different worlds and meet intriguing characters. However, I felt like I was reading the tabloid diary of a psychopath who didn't know how to tell a story. Everything remains on the surface, everything is a little bit of intrigue here to make you believe that the big reveal is coming, only to give you more guts and more blood and more rape ad nauseam.
Again, sex and blood sell, but outside of sensationalism, what are they selling us? A story of overcoming/hope? An entertaining romance? Fascinating characters with a captivating psychology? A plot that makes us think? The answer is no for all of the above, with empty characters and repetitive scenes and dialogues that are tiring.
I wonder what is it that makes this story so popular besides being so graphic. Regardless of that, I know I won't be reading more of it until someone can give me a truly good reason for it. For now, I had enough.
