Buenos días, gente. ¿Cómo les va? He dicho muchas veces que he estado leyendo (y mi cuenta de GoodReads es testigo de ello), pero una entrada de Carlos J. Eguren me puso a pensar sobre por qué hacerlo en un primer lugar. A veces he dicho que me da control, que me ayuda a entender mejor a las personas por mi Síndrome de Asperger y muchas otras respuestas, pero las personas cambian, y por ende las respuestas.
En pocas palabras: leo porque lo necesito. Leer me mantiene inocente, me mantiene cuerdo, me mantiene creativo, me mantiene esperanzado, me ayuda a creer que vendrán cosas mejores. Y es irónico viniendo de alguien que lee terror y ficción gótica, dos géneros que tienden a ser fatalistas y nihilistas en muchos aspectos. La lucha entre el bien y el mal en estas trama suele tener resultados agridulces, a veces ni eso.
Sin embargo, las cosas que te hace pensar la depresión (aunque ya estoy mucho mejor desde hace AÑOS, solo algunos bajones ocasionales; perdonen esa entrada... tan cringe) son precisamente de ese tipo, y se me hace fácil identificarme con personajes rotos, conflictivos, inseguros. Por eso mismo amé leer Vida y Muerte cuando salió, porque me pude identificar mucho más fácilmente con Beau que con Bella (aunque sigo admirándola a ella y a Edgard), porque sus inseguridades son mis inseguridades, porque lo que esperan de él es lo que esperan de mí. Pero que conste que sigo amando la saga.
Leer es un escape de la vida real, de las responsabilidades, de los problemas, de la monotonía, y a ver, cualquier prefiere irse de viaje a Narnia o soñar con un romance perfecto o de final feliz cuando no se tienen esas cosas. Pasa lo mismo con las historias fatalistas, porque te identificas con lo que pasa, te sumerges, y si bien es ficción sabes que todo terminará. Mi cerebro respira mucho mejor mientras leo y muchísimo mejor al terminar de hacerlo. #AccionPoetica
Además de las excusas típicas de viajar, vivir muchas vida, experimentar, y, en mi caso, entender mejor a las personas, leer me ayuda a respirar. No es suficiente decir "para eso espero a que salga la película" (una guillotina para esa gente, por favor; además de que las adaptaciones pocas veces igualan al libro, mucho menos lo superan), sino que vivir esa aventura como tú la imaginas, como tú la sientes y como tú la necesitas es una experiencia que ninguna película te puede dar. Leer te da control y libertad a la vez. ¿Qué mejor que eso?

Good morning, people. How are you doing? I've said many times that I've been reading (and my GoodReads account bears witness to it,) but an entry by Carlos J. Eguren (only in Spanish) got me wondering why to do it in the first place. Sometimes I have said that it gives me control, that it helps me better understand people with my Asperger's Syndrome (many entris only in Spanish,) and many other responses, but people change, and therefore the responses.
Simply put: I read because I need to. Reading keeps me innocent, keeps me sane, keeps me creative, keeps me hopeful, helps me believe that better things are to come. And it's ironic coming from someone who reads horror and gothic fiction, two genres that tend to be fatalistic and nihilistic in many ways. The fight between good and evil in these plots usually has bittersweet results, sometimes not even that.
However, the things that depression (OIS) makes you think (although I've already been much better for YEARS, just a few occasional lows; sorry for an entry so... cring-y) are precisely of that type, and I find it easy to identify with broken, conflicting, insecure characters. That's why I loved reading Life and Death (OIS) when it came out, because I could identify much more easily with Beau than with Bella (although I still admire her and Edward,) because his insecurities are my insecurities, because what they expect of him is what they expect of me. However, for the record, I'm still in love with the saga.
Reading is an escape from real life, responsibilities, problems, monotony, and come on, anyone prefers to go on a trip to Narnia or dream of a perfect romance or a happy ending when you don't have those things. The same thing happens with fatalistic stories, because you identify with what happens, you immerse yourself, and although it's fiction you know that everything will end. My brain breathes better while reading and much better after finishing. #HQPoetry
In addition to the typical excuses of traveling, living many lives, experimenting, and, in my case, understanding people better, reading helps me breathe. It is not enough to say "I'd rather wait for the movie to come out" (a guillotine for those people, please; besides the adaptations rarely equal the book, much less surpass it), but to live that adventure as you imagine it, how you feel it and how you need it is an experience that no movie can give you. Reading gives you control and freedom at the same time. What better than that?
