Recientemente terminé Ascensión, por S. T. Gibson, y es de esos libros que te encantan desde el inicio. Si bien es cierto que me tardé una vida en leerlo, fue porque mi vida no ha sido particularmente calmada estos días. Esto no quiere decir que sea malo. Todo lo contrario, es excelente, y lo recomiendo muchísimo para los que quieren leer una historia de fantasía oscura provocativa desde la primera página. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Antes que nada, no he visto noticias sobre la edición en español de este libro, pero Umbriel Editores tradujo el primer tomo de la saga, así que recomiendo que estén atentos a esta editorial.

Sentí que este libro empezó un poco más lento que el anterior, pero el ritmo terminó por convencerme tras algunos capítulos. El estilo de Saint es evocador, elegante, pero con una sencillez envidable que te adentra en la narración en un parpadeo. Aunque aún me cuesta un poco seguir los distintos puntos de vista, estos hacen de la narración aún más rica, más detallada, dándole aún más vida al mundo de esta saga.

Además de ello, los diálogos me encantaron. Todos eran tan naturales, tan orgánicos, tan parte de los personajes, que complementaron el estilo de la autora. Si bien es cierto que Saint tiene una voz única, adapta su estilo dependiendo de los narradores y los personajes que estén hablando. Cada personaje es único en esencia, pero puedes escuchar su voz a lo lejos en Ascensión, y eso para mí es un gran acierto.

Hubo algunas partes de la lectura que sí me parecieron un tanto... exageradas. Sentí que las reacciones de Rhys se extralimitaban, y aunque está argumentado hasta cierto punto, hubo momentos en que me sacó de la lectura por lo poco creíble que se volvía su actitud. Moira y David, por otro lado, me encantaron muchísimo más, especialmente Moira.

En general, Ascensión es una lectura de término medio. Ni muy compleja, pero tampoco sumamente ligera. El estilo de escritura es precioso, con escenas que te transportan sin siquiera darte cuenta, pero recomiendo mucho tomarse el tiempo con este libro. Llega un punto en que se hace algo denso, además de que se puede disfrutar más de esa forma. ¡En definitiva lo recomiendo a los amantes de la literatura fantástica lgbt!

I recently finished Ascension, by S. T. Gibson, and it's one of those books you fall in love with from the very first page. While it's true it took me ages to read it, that's only because my life hasn't been particularly calm lately. This doesn't mean it's a bad book at all. On the contrary, it's excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thought-provoking dark fantasy story right from the start. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy!

I felt this book started a little slower than the previous one, but the pace eventually won me over after a few chapters. Saint's style is evocative and elegant, yet possesses an enviable simplicity that draws you into the narrative in the blink of an eye. Although I still find it a little challenging to follow the different points of view, they make the narrative even richer and more detailed, bringing even more life to the world of this saga.

In addition, I loved the dialogues. It was all so natural, so organic, so much a part of the characters, that it perfectly complemented the author's style. While Saint certainly has a unique voice, she adapts her style depending on the narrators and the characters who are speaking. Each character is unique in essence, but you can still hear her voice in the background of Ascension, and for me, that's a great achievement.

There were some parts of the book that I found a bit... exaggerated. I felt that Rhys's reactions were over the top, and although it's justified to a certain extent, there were moments when it pulled me out of the story because his behavior became so unbelievable. Moira and David, on the other hand, I liked much more, especially Moira.

Overall, Ascension is a moderately paced read. Not too complex, but not overly light either. The writing style is beautiful, with scenes that transport you without you even realizing it, but I highly recommend taking your time with this book. There comes a point where it becomes a bit dense, and you can enjoy it more that way. I definitely recommend it to lovers of LGBTQ+ fantasy literature!
