Este emotivo y sincero one-shot sobre amor entre chicos explora la sanación del trauma, el duelo, y la familia, tanto por la sangre como por elección. Una hermosa historia conmovedora con arte envolvente y atmosférico de la prolífica creadora de BL Yuu Minaduki.

Devastado tras la trágica muerte de sus padres y hermana, Yuuichi Tachibana adopta a su sobrino de siete años, Ayumu. Buscando un nuevo comienzo, decide mudarlos a una nueva casa con vista al mar, con la esperanza de un entorno tranquilo donde puedan concentrarse en su sanación.

Allí conocen a Ryou Kurebayashi, dueño de una tienda de comestibles del barrio, y se convierten en clientes habituales. A medida que Ryou y Yuuichi se acercan, aprendiendo sobre sus respectivos pasados, lamentablemente igualmente trágicos, comienzan a apoyarse mutuamente, y a Ayumu, día a día, construyendo una pequeña familia junto al mar.

La historia es bastante simple, así que no hay grandes eventos que afecten a todos, en mayor o menor medida. Hay grandes eventos que afectan a los involucrados, y ahí es donde entra la magia de la historia. Yuu Minaduki aborda temas complejos con mucho cuidado y respeto, manteniendo su importancia, su impacto en la vida de alguien, y cómo las consecuencias se extienden a diferentes personas.

El arte de The Little Bird Sleeps by the Sea es limpio y detallado, tal y como me encanta, con un estilo igual de sencillo que combina con el guión. Me gustó también que los recuerdos tuvieran ese peso que se siente en la vida real reflejado en el estilo de dibujo de la mangaka. Es en esos momentos donde su estilo brilla más que antes, detallando las emociones de los personajes a través de lo que vemos en los páneles.

Sin embargo, me costó creer que Yuuichi estuviera tan dispuesto a dejar que un extraño interactuara con su sobrino. Si a eso le sumamos el traumático evento de perder a un familiar, la situación se vuelve aún más surrealista. Todos sabemos que se necesita una aldea para criar a un niño, una aldea de la que Ryou definitivamente forma parte después de algunos capítulos, pero no al principio. Este es el único caso en el que no sentí que la historia estuviera tan bien hecha como podría.

Dejando ese aspecto de lado, esta es una hermosa historia sobre la familia, las segundas oportunidades y la superación del trauma. Siendo el primer libro de Yuu Minaduki que leo, The Little Bird Sleeps by the Sea estuvo bastante bien, aunque esperaba un mejor acabado en los detalles, considerando que no es lo primero que escribe. Sin embargo, es ideal para esos días de nostalgia donde los recuerdos están más presentes que antes.

This heartfelt, emotional boys love oneshot explores themes of healing from trauma, grief, and family both by blood and by choice. A beautiful tearjerker with immersive, atmospheric art by prolific BL creator Yuu Minaduki.

Left devastated after the tragic death of his parents and sister, Yuuichi Tachibana adopts his seven-year-old nephew, Ayumu. Seeking a new beginning, he chooses to move them to a new house with a view of the ocean, hoping for a peaceful setting where they can concentrate on their healing.

There they meet Ryou Kurebayashi, who owns a neighborhood deli, and become regular customers. As Ryou and Yuuichi grow closer, learning about each other's unfortunately similarly tragic pasts, they begin to support one another — and Ayumu — day by day, building a little family of their own by the sea.

Clarification: I read the English version from TokyoPop. I haven't read Ana María Caro's (Hanaoka) translation.

The story is pretty simple, so there are no big events that affect everyone, to some degree. There are big events that affect those involved, and that's where the magic of the story comes in. Yuu Minaduki takes heavy topics and manages them with so much care and respect while maintaining their weight, their impact on someone's life, and how the consequences ripple across different people.

The art in The Little Bird Sleeps by the Sea is clean and detailed, just the way I love it, with an equally simple style that complements the story. I also appreciated how the memories carried the weight you feel in real life, reflected in the mangaka's drawing style. It's in these moments that her style truly shines, detailing the characters' emotions through what we see on the panels.

I had a hard time, however, believing that Yuuichi would be so willing to let a stranger interact with his nephew. Add the traumatic event of losing family, and the situation is more surreal. We all know it takes a village to raise a child, a village Ryou is definitely part of after some chapters, but not at the beginning. This is the only instance where I didn't feel the story was as well-done as it could.

That aspect aside, this is a beautiful story about family, second chances, and healing from trauma. This being the first book by Yuu Minaduki that I've read, The Little Bird Sleeps by the Sea was quite good, although I expected better attention to detail, considering it's not her first book. However, it's ideal for those nostalgic days when memories are more vivid than before.
