Cómic: Alice Ever After #3

¿Se han preguntado cómo sería la vida en un asilo de la época victoriana? He leído sobre ellos y no es una experiencia bonita, y por ello les digo que esa no-bonitura se refleja muy bien en el cómic del que les quiero hablar. Hoy es turno de Alice Ever After #3, por Dan Panosian y Giorgio Spalletta. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Alice ha encontrado refugio en el ASILO, pero puede que no esté tan segura como cree...

¿Su tiempo allí significará ser separada del mundo real de forma permanente? ¿Y qué hay de la financiación sospechosa de la institución y la búsqueda de control del Dr. Madsen... a través de cualquier medio necesario? Sin embargo, las cosas se vuelven aún más curiosas en el País de las Maravillas, ¡ya que Alice se encuentra con dos figuras familiares que tienen un extraño parecido con los ordenanzas del manicomio!

Esta historia se vuelve cada vez más oscura, mucho más retorcida de lo que esperaba, aunque a algunos puede que no les sorprenda porque estamos hablando de Alicia, a fin de cuenta. También hay sorpresas a la vuelta de la esquina. El guión me ha encantado, tan directo pero a la vez dejando espacio para la imaginación, con personajes un tanto sencillos y otros tan humanos que duele verles en sus respectivas escenas.

El arte no se queda atrás, como es de esperarse. Con contrastes tan hermosos que le dan una belleza retorcida a todo el número, hacen que cada página sea una delicia visual, más que todo porque muestran tanto la decadencia como la inocencia que hay en muchas escenas. No se trata solo de algo visual sino simbólico también.

Hubiera preferido algo un poco más extenso que permitiera más desarrollo y puede que algunos flashbacks. Me sentí un poco perdido cuando se suponía que venía una revelación clave de la trama, pero perdió poder por esto mismo. A veces se me hace complicado recordar detalles, especialmente cuando pasa tiempo entre un número y el otro, pero es algo personal y sé que muchos podrían no tener este problema.

En líneas generales, Alice Ever After #3 es un número precioso que te vuela la cabeza. La inocencia y depravación empiezan a bailar a la vez que buscan dominarse una a la otra, pero hay un balance que, por suerte, parece que pronto quedará vuelto trizas. El mundo de Alice se va descubriendo página tras página, y no puedo esperar a ver qué sigue después.

Alice has found refuge in the ASYLUM, but she might not be as safe as she thinks...

Will her time there mean being severed from the real world permanently? And what of the institution's suspicious funding, and Dr. Madsen's quest for control... through any means necessary? Things grow even curiouser back in Wonderland though, as Alice meets two familiar figures who bear an uncanny resemblance to the orderlies of the asylum!

This story gets darker and darker, much more twisted than I expected, although some may not be surprised because we are talking about Alice, after all. There are also surprises around the corner. I loved the script, so direct but at the same time leaving room for imagination, with somewhat simple characters and others so human that it hurts to see them in their respective scenes.

Art is not far behind, as expected. With contrasts so beautiful that they lend a twisted beauty to the entire issue, they make each page a visual delight, most of all because they show both the decadence and the innocence in many scenes. It is not only something visual but symbolic as well.

I would have preferred something a bit more extensive that would allow for more development and maybe some flashbacks. I felt a bit lost when a key plot reveal was supposed to come, but it lost power because of it. Sometimes I find it difficult to remember details, especially when time passes between one issue and the other, but it's something personal and I know that many might not have this problem.

In general, Alice Ever After #3 is a beautiful issue that blows your mind. Innocence and depravity begin to dance as they seek to dominate each other, but there's a balance that, luckily, seems to soon be shattered. Alice's world is unfolding page after page, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
