Cómic: Alice Ever After #2

Buenos días, gente bonita. ¿Cómo va su semana? Yo me tomé varios días de descanso para pensar en muchas cosas y enfocarme en la vida fuera de la computadora. Me ha venido muy bien, y en medio de todo he encontrado lecturas que me encantaron, cómics incluidos, como no podía ser de otra manera. Hoy les quiero hablar sobre Alice Ever After #2, por Dan Panosian y Giorgio Spalletta. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Alice podría haber abierto la puerta al País de las Maravillas, pero el manicomio es su propio reino de oscuridad y peligro. La señora Hulda se parece a una reina demasiado familiar, y el Dr. Madsen está ansioso por probar un tratamiento experimental, indagando en un pasado del que Alice quiere escapar... y un pasado que su padre hará cualquier cosa por mantener oculto. ¿Un recluso con una sonrisa intrigante demostrará ser un amigo muy necesario, o el destino de Alice será el mismo que el de los reclusos en la sala común, los que tienen los ojos vacíos?

La historia continúa poco después de los eventos del primero número, con Alice ya en el manicomio, pero este dista de ser el paraíso que esperaba. Desde el inicio vemos que las cosas no son lo que parece, y que las referencias al mundo de fantasía de su infancia siguen apareciendo, cada vez aludiendo a una historia sórdida que estoy ansioso por descubrir.

Alice Ever After #2 es un número que se lee muy rápido pero con sorpresas y giros a la orden del día. No deja indiferente al lector ya que hace fácil el simpatizar con Alice. Hay algo encantador en ella, dulce pero a la vez digno de admiración, y los personajes que la rodean se llevan también el mérito de ser entretenidos. Diría que algunos no se notan muy naturales, sin embargo, un poco exagerados con respecto a su forma de ser.

Siento que ese sería justo mi principal problema. Aunque las referencias son claras y disfrutables, hubo momentos en que me pareció que algunos personajes carecían de alguna otra faceta más allá de lo que muestran a primera vista. Hubiera preferido un guiño, alguna frase, o algo que indicara lo contrario, como pasó con el padre de Alice, pero me quedé esperando. No es un error como tal, pero si un detalle de desarrollo que podría haber quedado mejor.

En general, es un número que se disfruta de inicio a fin, con un arte impecable, tan hermoso como perturbados, y una historia que se pone cada vez más tétrica en poco tiempo. Alice Ever After #2 es otro paso en la dirección correcta para esta serie, y sigo con ganas de saber qué pasará más adelante, de qué se trata todo, y los secretos que encierran el pasado de Alice.

Alice might have opened the door to Wonderland, but the asylum is its own realm of darkness and danger. Mistress Hulda resembles an all-too-familiar queen, and Dr. Madsen is eager to try an experimental treatment, probing into a past that Alice wants to escape... and one her father will do anything to keep hidden. Will an inmate with an intriguing smile prove to be a much needed friend, or will Alice's fate be the same as the inmates in the common room, the ones with the vacant eyes?

The story continues shortly after the events of the first issue, with Alice already in the asylum, but this is far from the paradise she expected. From the beginning we see that things are not what they seem, and that the references to the fantasy world of her childhood keep appearing, each time alluding to a sordid story that I'm eager to discover.

Alice Ever After #2 is an issue that's read very quickly but with surprises and twists on the order of the day. It doesn't leave the reader indifferent since it makes it easy to sympathize with Alice. There's something charming about her, sweet yet admirable, and the characters around her get credit for being entertaining, too. I would say that some of them are not very natural, however, a little exaggerated with respect to the way they are.

I feel like that would be just my main problem. Although the references are clear and enjoyable, there were times when it seemed to me that some characters lacked some other facet beyond what they show at first glance. I would have preferred a wink, some phrase, or something that indicated the opposite, as happened with Alice's father, but I kept waiting. It's not an error as such, but a development detail that could have been better.

In general, it's an issue that's enjoyed from beginning to end, with impeccable art, as beautiful as it is disturbing, and a story that gets increasingly gloomy in a short time. Alice Ever After #2 is another step in the right direction for this series, and I'm still looking forward to finding out what happens next, what it's all about, and the secrets that Alice's past holds.
