Buenos días, gente bonita. ¿Qué tal va su semana? Les cuento que hace días empecé el gimnasio, haciendo media hora cada vez que puedo, y aunque estoy adolorido espero que esta vez pueda mantener me allí. Hoy vengo con un cómic que les va a encantar si les gustan las lecturas retorcidas y los recuentos: Alice Ever After #1, por Dan Panosian y Giorgio Spalletta. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Regresa al País de las Maravillas en esta secuela retorcida del artista y escritor superestrella Dan Panosian (An Unkindness of Ravens, Canary) perfecta para los fanáticos de Mercy and Luna de Mirka Andolfo. Alicia visitó el País de las Maravillas por primera vez cuando era niña. Ahora que es adulta, es su único escape de una realidad extraña y fría en la que se encuentra viviendo. Pero para volver a su mundo de fantasía, necesitará algo más fuerte que los hongos que cambian su tamaño, y se ve obligada a recurrir al crimen para alimentar su creciente adicción. ¿Eligirá Alicia escapar de su familia indiferente y del trauma de su infancia en el País de las Maravillas, o encontrará el coraje para enfrentarse a sus demonios en el mundo real?

La historia nos sitúa en un Londres victoriano no muy agraciado, y aunque Alice no es la niña inocente que conocimos en nuestra infancia, mantiene ese aire de pureza, aunque rota por dentro. Las primeras páginas de Alice Ever After #1 nos muestran que su vida dista de ser perfecta y que hay tela para cortar con respecto a su pasado, incluso su presente.

El arte es una belleza, tengo que decir. El guión de Dan Panosian es bastante ligero y fácil de disfrutar, pero las ilustraciones de él y Giorgio Spalletta son hermosas. No hay una sola página que no me guste. Hay una decadencia que te pone los pelos de punta, como si todo lo que conoces del País de las Maravillas fuese una versión idealizada.

Sin embargo, siento que el final quedó un poco flojo, incluso apresurado. Me hubiese gustado que tuviera un poco más de desarrollo en vez de saltar directo al impacto que, si bien es efectivo y te sorprende como lector, no puedo dejar de pensar que hubiese sido mejor un poco más de trasfondo, quizá más pistas sobre el pasado de Alice.

Imaginativo, con potencial, y un arte que te encanta a primera vista, Alice Ever After #1 es una lectura que se disfruta sola. Este equipo puso mucho amor en la historia, con resultados fáciles de reconocer. Como recuento está bastante interesante, aunque la propuesta sea una apuesta segura y que me parece haber visto antes. Sin embargo, hay suficiente material para que tenga su identidad propia. En pocas palabras, me encantó.

Return to Wonderland in this twisted sequel by superstar artist and writer Dan Panosian (An Unkindness of Ravens, Canary) perfect for fans of Mirka Andolfo's Mercy and Luna. Alice first visited Wonderland as a child. Now an adult, it's her only escape from a cold, strange reality she finds herself living in. But in order to return to her fantasy world, she'll need something stronger than mushrooms that change her size, and is forced to resort to crime to feed her growing addiction. Will Alice choose to escape from her uncaring family and childhood trauma in Wonderland, or find the courage to face her demons in the real world?

The story places us in a not very graceful Victorian London, and although Alice is not the innocent girl we met in our childhood, she maintains that air of purity, although broken inside. The opening pages of Alice Ever After #1 show us that her life is far from perfect and that there's much to be cut from her past, even her present.

Art is a beauty, I have to say. Dan Panosian's script is quite light and easy to enjoy, but the illustrations by him and Giorgio Spalletta are beautiful. There isn't a single page that I don't like. There is a decadence that makes your hair stand on end, as if everything you know of Wonderland is an idealized version.

However, I feel that the ending was a bit weak, even rushed. I would have liked it to have had a little more development instead of jumping straight to the impact that, although effective and surprises you as a reader, I can't help but think that a little more background would have been better, perhaps more clues about Alice's past.

Imaginative, full of potential, and art you love at first sight, Alice Ever After #1 is a reading that requires no effort. This team put a lot of love into the story, with easy-to-recognize results. As a retelling, it's quite interesting, although the proposal is a safe bet and it seems to me that I have seen it before. However, there's enough material for it to have its own identity. In a nutshell, I loved it.
