Parece demasiado bueno para ser verdad... y tal vez lo sea.

Un pacto con el mundo espiritual; ¿Qué podría salir mal?

Tengo que empezar con una pregunta seria: ¿cómo es que esta belleza no ha sido adaptada al anime? Una serie, película, algo, pero necesita más atención, con toda seriedad. Los personajes, el mundo, el desarrollo, los diálogos, y el arte, santo cielo, el arte es precioso. Pero iré por partes.

La historia va directo al grano, mostrándonos a Kamo en lo que podrían ser sus últimos momentos de vida, justo antes de que haga el pacto con Crimson. Desde allí, las cosas se mueven a un ritmo frenético, dándonos varias sorpresas a medida que pasamos las páginas, y presentándonos a njuevos personajes que marcarán a Kamo de una u otra forma.

No puedo decir mucho sobre el arte porque es sencillamente precioso. Los detalles, el diseño de los personajes, del ambiente, incluso los hechizos que usan los espíritus están muy bien elaborados, al punto de que te transmiten esa vibra de fantasía que se te mete por los poros. No quiere decir que Kamo: Pact with the Spirit World Volume 1 se aleje del horror, sino todo lo contrario: muestra la dosis perfecta de violencia y sangre, dejando entrever el verdadero yo de algunos personajes.

Me llama mucho la atención cómo se va a desarrollar la historia, porque si bien todo avanzó muy rápido, Ban Zarbo lo supo manejar a la perfección. Kamo: Pact with the Spirit World Volume 1 es un manga del que no te puedes despegar desde que incia hasta que termina, dejándote ansioso por mucho más. Evidentemente tengo muy altas expectativas en esta historia, y espero algo igual o mejor en los siguientes volúmenes, lo cual siempre da miedo, pero por primera vez en mucho tiempo me voy a permitir soñar alto, porque esta historia me dejó encantado por todos lados.

Born with a failing heart, Kamo has fought death his whole life, but to no avail. As his body weakens and he readies to draw his final breath, he's visited by a powerful spirit named Crimson who offers him a deal: defeat and capture the souls of twelve spirits in exchange for a new heart. It seems too good to be true... and maybe it is.

A pact with the spirit world; what could possibly go wrong?

I have to start with a serious question: how come this beauty hasn't been adapted into anime? A series, movie, something, but it needs more attention, in all seriousness. The characters, the world, the development, the dialogues, and the art, my goodness, the art is beautiful. But I will go easy.

The story goes straight to the point, showing us Kamo in what could be his last moments of life, just before he makes the pact with Crimson. From there, things move at a frenetic pace, giving us various surprises as we turn the pages, and introducing us to new characters that will mark Kamo in one way or another.

I cannot say much about art because it is simply beautiful. The details, the characters' design, the environment, even the spells that the spirits use are very well elaborated, to the point that they transmit that fantasy vibe that gets through your pores. It doesn't mean that Kamo: Pact with the Spirit World Volume 1 is far from horror, but quite the opposite: it shows the perfect dose of violence and blood, giving a glimpse of the true self of some characters.

I'm very struck by how the story's going to unfold because although everything progressed very quickly, Ban Zarbo knew how to handle it perfectly. Kamo: Pact with the Spirit World Volume 1 is a manga that you cannot detach from from the beginning to the end, leaving you anxious for much more. Obviously, I have very high expectations in this story, and I expect something equal or better in the following volumes, which is always scary, but for the first time in a long time I'm going to allow myself to dream high because this story left me enchanted on all sides.

Ayer tuve una noticia que me alegró muchísimo, y es que ahora voy a colocaborar con una de las editoriales de manga más grandes que hay: ¡TOKYO POP! ^w^ Evidentemente vengo con un manga hoy. Luego de leer el primer volumen quedé con ganas de más, por eso estoy feliz de vnir hoy con la reseña de Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2, por Kaili Sorano. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Después de apenas escapar del Más Allá, una dimensión alternativa repleta de monstruos sedientos de sangre, los estudiantes de secundaria Yamagishi y Sendo se dan cuenta de que sus vidas no volverán a la normalidad en el corto plazo. Decididos a profundizar en los secretos del Más Allá, se unen al misterioso investigador paranormal Akisato, bajo cuya guía a regañadientes comienzan a descubrir un mundo de sectas ocultas y magia negra. Cuando Yamagishi se topa con un sello desconocido que reconoce de alguna manera, rápidamente queda claro que su participación no es una mera coincidencia. Está seguro de que el símbolo espeluznante tiene algo que ver con el orfanato donde creció, y está decidido a descubrir la verdad, incluso si tiene que volver al Más Allá para encontrar las respuestas a su pasado perdido.

Este es un volumen que se lee en una sentada, ¡en serio! El tiempo se me pasó volando a medida que descubría más cosas sobre el mundo macabro de Kaili Sorano. Es una historia de aventuras y monstruos que te deja con ganas de más, igual que el primer volumen. Tiene una dosis de horror y fantasía oscura que me encanta, junto con un ritmo y estilo que te muestra todo con detalle.

Los personajes en Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2 son muy leales a sus edades, a cómo uno esperaría que reaccionaran después de pasar por lo que han pasado y, contrario a lo que creo que era el objetivo, siento mucha curiosidad por Sendo. Es un personaje que me llama mucho la atención, con un perfil interesante, y una forma de ser muy peculiar considerando el contexto. Evidentemente, Yamagishi es casi igual de intrigante, junto con su relación a los sucesos que se desatan en este volumen.

Creo que el único defecto de este volumen es lo corto que es. ¡No es justo! Kaili Sorano tiene una buena mano, disfruta con este trabajo, y ya quiero ver qué es lo que sucede después. Ahora, lo que no me sorprendió fue el hecho de que cada uno de los chicos asumiera un rol predesible al momento de luchar. No porque quedara mal, todo lo contrario, sino porque me hubiese gustado algo un poco más diferente.

Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2  es un manga perfecto para pasar la tarde, perderse en un mundo lleno de peligros y donde nada es lo que parece, lleno de criaturas mortales que se esconden a simple vista, junto con un arte detallado que te sumerge de lleno. Kaili Sorano me sorprendió con cómo se dieron las cosas en este volumen, y estoy seguro de que el siguiente será aún mejor.

After reading the first volume I was wanting more, so I am happy to come today with the review of Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2, by Kaili Sorano. He's sure the creepy symbol has something to do with the orphanage where he grew up — and he's determined to find out truth, even if he has to go back into the Beyond to find the answers to his missing past.

This is a volume that reads in one sitting, seriously! Time flew by as I discovered more about the Kaili Sorano's ghoulish world. It's an adventure and monster story that leaves you wanting more, just like the first volume. It has a dose of horror and dark fantasy that I love, along with a rhythm and style that shows you everything in detail.

The characters in Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2 are very loyal to their ages, how one would expect them to react after going through what they've been through and, contrary to what I think was the goal, I'm very curious about Sendo. He's a character that catches my attention, with an interesting profile, and a very peculiar way of being considering the context. Yamagishi is obviously almost as intriguing, along with his relationship to the events unleashed in this volume.

I think the only flaw with this volume is how short it is. That's not fair! Kaili Sorano has a good hand, enjoys this job, and I want to see what happens next. Now, what didn't surprise me was the fact that each of the boys assumed a predictable role when fighting. Not because it looked bad, quite the opposite, but because I would have liked something a little more different.

Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 2 is a perfect manga to spend the afternoon, getting lost in a world full of dangers and where nothing is what it seems, full of deadly creatures that hide in plain sight, along with detailed art that fully immerses you. Kaili Sorano surprised me with how things turned out in this volume, and I'm sure the next one will be even better.

Pensando: Consejos de Escritura / Thinking: Writing Tips

Buen día, gente linda. ^^ Espero que estén mejor. A mí me faltan las energías últimamente, pero creo que ya sé qué es lo que me pasa y por qué me está costando tanto escribir. Es algo que he estado pensando por un tiempo pero que quería poner a prueba. Creo que postergué el final tanto como fue posible, al punto de quemarme el cerebro en muchos sentidos.

Resulta, acontece, pasa y sucede (como decimos los venezolanos), que me he ido llenando de tantos consejos y sugerencias para escribir que se volvió un proceso mecánico, antinatursal, poco o nada del disfrute que tenía antes. Planear los capítulos, estructurar el blog, seguir un esquema, tener una tabla de ideas... Parece que paso más tiempo preparándome para escribir que escribiendo propiamente dicho.

Hace años empecé a escribir, y es cierto que nadie me leía, pero era muy feliz, me entretenía demasiado, y era frustrante que nadie me prestara atención porque si yo disfrutaba tanto escribiendo entonces alguien debería disfrutar igual leyéndome. Conocí a una de mis mejores amigas, Kel Bathory, gracias a un relato sobre Isabel Bathory, Báñate en el Infierno (Parte 1, 2, 3, 4, y 5 en el blog, por si quieren leerlo ^^), y es una historia de la que estoy muy orgulloso a pesar de haberla escrito justamente hace 10 años. Es un relato con el que me divertí muchísimo, con el que me dejé llevar, y quiero recuperar eso.

Me parece que todos los artistas empezamos con una inocencia y pureza mental que nos hace destacar de alguna manera, y cuando buscamos mejorar a travez de la experiencia de otros es que nos echamos a perder. Sí mejoramos, aprendemos, nos volvemos más observadores y cuidadosos, pero llega un punto en que todo es planificado en lugar de espontáneo, y eso es justo lo que creo que me pasa.

Quise mantener un esquema para el blog, publicar algo específicamente todos los días, mantener unas secciones fijas, y el resultado fue todo lo contrario a lo que esperaba. Estoy agotado, con pocas ideas para el blog, para las redes, cansado de tanta planificació, documentación, estructura y esquema. Fue demasiado. De ahora en adelante voy a publicar lo que me de la gana cuando me de la gana, pero sí establer un mejor horario para trabajar en el blog y tener tiempo para escribir y leer.

De hoy en adelante, voy a olvidarme de todos los consejos de escritura que leí. Para ser escritor solo debes escribir. Punto.

Good morning, beautiful people. ^^ I hope you're better. I'm lacking energy lately, but I think I already know what's wrong with me and why I'm finding it so hard to write. It's something I've been thinking about for a while but wanted to put it to the test. I think I put off the end as long as possible, to the point of burning my brain in many ways.

Years ago I started writing, and it's true that nobody read me, but I was very happy, it entertained me too much, and it was frustrating that nobody paid attention to me because if I enjoyed writing so much then someone should enjoy reading me as well. I met one of my best friends, Kel Bathory, thanks to a story about Isabel Bathory, Báñate en el Infierno (Bathe in Hell; Part 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on the blog, only in Spanish, in case you want to read it ^^), and it's a story I'm very proud of despite having written it exactly 10 years ago. It's a story that I had a lot of fun with, that I got carried away with, and I want to get that back.

It seems to me that all artists start with an innocence and mental purity that makes us stand out in some way, and when we seek to improve through the experience of others it is that we spoil ourselves. We do improve, we learn, we become more observant and careful, but there comes a point where everything is planned rather than spontaneous, and that's just what I think happens to me.

I wanted to keep an outline for the blog, post something specifically every day, keep some fixed sections, and the result was the opposite of what I expected. I am exhausted, with few ideas for the blog, for the networks, tired of so much planning, documentation, structure, and scheme. It was too much. From now on I will post whatever I want when I want, but I will set a better schedule to work on the blog and have time to write and read.

From now on, I'm going to forget about all the writing tips I read. To be a writer you just have to write. Point.

Me cuesta escribir / Finding it hard to write

Buen día, Nocturnos. ¿Qué tal va todo por allá? Hoy vengo con una entrada honesta y para pedirles ayuda con respecto a algo que no pensé que me pasaría: me cuesta escribir. Tengo las ideas, las historias, las entradas, el contenido, y todo, salvo la energía para hacerlo.

Desde hace días he estado corriendo a hospitales y mercados para comprar medicinas. Hay varias noticias buenas que contar, unas que pensé que tardarían muchísimo para poder compartir, pero hay algunas que puedo darlas a conocer ya, y hay muchísimas historias que quiero escribir, pero... me falta energía.

Tengo que forzar las primeras líneas, y luego las ideas van fluyendo. Llego un momento en que me bloqueo, pierdo el hilo de lo que estaba haciendo, y puedo volver luego de una pausa. Antes no me pasaba esto. Podía escribir, escribir, escribir, y seguir escribiendo hasta que mi espalda me doliera de tanto estar sentado, pero ahora con solo unos minutos siento que quiero terminar cuanto antes.

Decir que es frustrante es poco, así que les pregunto, ¿les ha pasado? Y si es así, ¿cómo lo solucionaron? Sé que es cansancio acumulado y que necesito tomarme un tiempo para mí, pero de verdad que no quiero dejar que pasen los días y simplemente esperar a que todo mejore. Quiero volver a leer como antes y escribir como siempre lo he hecho, o sea todos los días. ¿Alguna idea?

Good morning, Nightlies. How is everything going there? Today I come with an honest entry and to ask for your help regarding something that I didn't think would happen to me: I'km finding it hard to write. I have the ideas, the stories, the entries, the content, and everything but the energy to do it.

For days I've been running to hospitals and markets to buy medicine. There are several good news to tell, some that I thought would take a long time to share, but there are some that I can share now, and there are many stories that I want to write, but... I lack energy.

I have to force the first lines, and then the ideas flow. There comes a time when I get stuck, lose track of what I was doing, and can come back after a pause. This didn't happen to me before. I could write, write, write, and keep writing until my back ached from sitting so much, but now with just a few minutes I feel like I want to finish as soon as possible.

To say that it is frustrating is not enough, so I ask you, has it happened to you? And if so, how did you fix it? I know it's accumulated tiredness and that I need to take some time for myself, but I really don't want to let the days go by and just wait for everything to improve. I want to go back to reading like before and writing like I always have, that is, every day. Any ideas?

Buenos días, gente. He estado bastante perdido estos días por motivos de salud, no míos sino familiares, y han demandado muchísimo tiempo, energía, y dedicación. Apenas tuve tiempo para otras cosas que no fueran comprar medicinas e idas al hospital, pero afortunadamente ya todo mejoró. ^^ Hoy quiero compartirles un libro precioso y que me mantuvo entretenido por largo rato (créanme que fue largo). Se trata de Dime que todo estará bien, de Jonaira Campagnuolo. ¡Gracias a la autora por enviarme un ejemplar a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Julie es una chica de 17 años que llega a Rayville buscando esconderse de todas las personas que una vez la señalaron y se burlaron de ella. Está asustada y se siente muy sola, y pensó que ese pueblo pequeño podía servirle como un hoyo donde enterrar su cabeza.

Sin embargo, aquel lugar tiene muchas más grietas y sombras de las que ella carga en el alma. Allí conoce a Dylan, un joven mal humorado y esquivo que trata de salir adelante con las limitantes que le da su libertad condicional y quien le hace sentir emociones inquietantes; Dominic, un chico extravagante y rebelde a quien todos le huyen por tenerle miedo, ya que suele ser explosivo y violento; y Britany, una joven hermosa y popular que hipnotiza con la mirada, pudiendo esconder con su sonrisa de hada secretos turbios que amellan su personalidad.

Para Julie, en Rayville todos parecen ocultar algo. Las redes sociales son el único medio que saca a la luz la realidad, pero de la peor forma posible. Sus problemas comienzan cuando sus propios secretos empiezan a publicarse en los muros de sus compañeros, exponiéndola de nuevo a una jauría hambrienta y devastadora que prefiere señalar a otros y así evitar ser señalado.

Por si no es suficiente con la sinopsis, la historia está muy cargada de temas sociales, más que todos aquellos relacionados con la adolescencia, el tiempo en el bachillerato, y cuando se forjan los lazos más importantes de nuestra juventud. Julie es un reflejo perfecto de este tiempo tumultuoso, una chica con serios problemas que la siguen a su nueva ciudad, la cual tiene su propio infierno escondido entre los pasillos de la secundaria.

Jonaira Campagnuolo tiene un estilo fuerte, decorado, y una mano que no duda en describir tanto lo físico como lo emocional de cada escena. Dime que todo estará bien es una novela difícil de leer porque todo es muy intenso y la trama sube la fuerza de sus escenas constantemente. Aunque me costó seguir en algunos momentos, es una historia que te enamora desde el primer momento, metiéndote en la piel de sus personajes hasta volverte uno más.

Evidentamente no es una historia para todos, pero toca temas con los que cualquiera de nosotros se ha cruzado en algún momento: las enfermedades mentales, sexualidad, drogas, abuso y acoso escolar, corrupción, la autoestima, relaciones, y así hasta el infinito (y más allá). Cada sub trama tiene su momento de gloria y se entreteje con maravilla con las demás y el hilo principal, dándole al lector algo diferente en todo momento.

Por su perfil, hubiese preferido que esta novela tuviera un lenguaje más sencillo, pues a veces los adjetivos constantes hacen que algunas frases pierdan fuerza o que los diálogos sean un poco sobre actuados, pero es una lectura imposible de no disfrutar. Jonaira Campagnuolo creó una historia que no dejará a nadie indiferente. Dime que todo estará bien es de esos libros que se quedan contigo como una poderosa lección y un recuerdo valioso.

También hay una precuela que les va a interesar, tanto en Wattpad como en Amazon, y la cual ya empecé a leer.

For Julie, everyone in Rayville seems to be hiding something. Social networks are the only medium that brings reality to light, but in the worst possible way. Her troubles begin when her own secrets begin to be posted on the walls of her mates, exposing her again to a ravenous and devastating pack that prefers to point out others and thus avoid being pointed out.

As if the synopsis is not enough, the story's heavily loaded with social issues, mostly those related to adolescence, time in high school, and when the most important ties of our youth are forged. Julie is a perfect reflection of this tumultuous time, a girl with serious problems who follow her to her new city, which has hers of its own hell hidden between the halls of high school.

Jonaira Campagnuolo has a strong, decorated style, and a hand that doesn't hesitate to describe both the physical and the emotional of each scene. Dime que todo estará bien is a novel difficult to read because everything is very intense and the plot constantly raises the strength of its scenes. Although it was difficult for me to follow in some moments, it's a story that makes you fall in love from the first moment, getting into the skin of its characters until you become one more.

It is obviously not a story for everyone, but it touches on topics that any of us have come across at some point: mental illness, sexuality, drugs, scholar abuse and bullying, corruption, self-esteem, relationships, and so on ad infinitum (and beyond). Each subplot has its moment of glory and is wonderfully interwoven with the others and the main thread, giving the reader something different every time.

Due to its profile, I would have preferred that this novel had a simpler language, since sometimes constant adjectives make some sentences lose strength or the dialogues are a bit over-acted, but it is an reading impossible not to enjoy. Jonaira Campagnuolo created a story that will not leave anyone indifferent. Dime que todo estará bien is one of those books that stay with you as a powerful lesson and a valuable memory.

Buenas buenas, Nocturnos. ^^ ¿Qué tal han estado? Yo sigo trabajando en mis proyectos, puliendo varias cosas, y leyendo de tanto en tanto. Este año quiero leer 100 libros en total, y aunque estoy atrasado según GoodReads sí estoy disfrutando más de mis lecturas, y hoy quiero hablarles de un manga al que le había puesto el ojo hace poco. Se trata de The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1, escrito por Kaiu Shirai y con arte de Posuka Demizu.

Emma, Norman y Ray son los niños más brillantes del orfanato Casa Grace Field. Y bajo el cuidado de la mujer a la que se refieren como "mamá", todos los niños han disfrutado de una vida cómoda. Buena comida, ropa limpia y el entorno perfecto para aprender. ¿Qué más puede pedir un huérfano? Un día, sin embargo, Emma y Norman descubren la oscura verdad del mundo exterior que tienen prohibido ver.

La historia en sí es bastante sencilla, directa, y nos presenta muy bien a los personajes desde el primer momento. La trama se desarrolla con mucha rapidez por lo que la lectura se te pasa volando en una sentada. Es un manga que se disfruta con facilidad, de esos que te sumerge sin darte cuenta en un mundo totalmente fantástico, pero que se siente muy real.

El mundo me pareció bien construido y con muchas sorpresas preparadas para los volúmenes venideros. Kaiu Shirai supo jugar muy bien con el tema de los demonios, los sacrificios humanos, y el papel del orfanato. Ya sabía que The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1 sería una lectura oscura, pero no pensé que lo sería a tal punto de provocarme escalofríos.

Sin embargo, no soy muy fan del arte de Posuka Demizu, especialmente de las expresiones faciales de algunos personajes. Aunque la portada y las primeras páginas se ven muy bien con los colores y la escala de grises, el estilo del resto del libro no me gustó tanto por lo toscos que se veían algunos páneles. Las expresiones también parecían un poco exageradas en ocasiones. Fueron aspectos que no me agradaron pero, en general, los paisajes y detalles estaban muy bien cuidados.

The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1 fue definitivamente una sorpresa este año. No pensé que le daría una oportunidad, pero Kaiu Shirai y Posuka Demizu hicieron que fuese una buena elección. Con una trama tétrica, persojes que conservan algunos clichés del manga shonen pero se mantienen interesantes en todo momento, es de esas lecturas que te atrapan conforme avanzas y de las que no quieres despegarte hasta saber más. Y voy a saber más.

Good morning, Nightlies. ^^ How have you been? I keep working on my projects, polishing various things, and reading from time to time. This year I want to read 100 books in total, and although I'm behind according to GoodReads I'm enjoying my reading more, and today I want to tell you about a manga that I had my eye on recently. It's about The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1, written by Kaiu Shirai and with art by Posuka Demizu.

Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.

The story itself is quite simple, straightforward, and it introduces us to the characters very well from the get-go. The plot unfolds very quickly so the reading flies past you in one sitting. It is a manga that is easily enjoyed, the kind that immerses you without realizing it in a totally fantastic world, but that feels very real.

The world seemed well built and with many surprises prepared for the volumes to come. Kaiu Shirai knew how to play very well with the theme of demons, human sacrifices, and the role of the orphanage. I already knew The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1 would be a dark reading, but I didn't think it would be to the point of giving me the creeps.

However, I'm not a big fan of Posuka Demizu's art, especially the facial expressions of some characters. Although the cover and the first few pages look great with the colors and grayscale, I didn't like the style of the rest of the book that much because of how rough some panels were. The expressions also seemed a bit exaggerated at times. They were aspects that I didn't like but, in general, the landscapes and details were very well cared for.

The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1 was definitely a surprise this year. I didn't think I would give it a try, but Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu made it into a good choice. With a gloomy plot, characters that retain some clichés of the shonen manga but remain interesting at all times, it is one of those readings that catch you as you go and from which you don't want to detach yourself until you know more. And I will know more.
