I’ve been taking a break from traditional
comics and did some work on my master’s, which means I started reading webcomics, and there's one in particular I want to recommend you: Ava's demon
The story is pretty simple: set in a fantasy-sci-fi
world, Ava deals with a demon that has been tormenting her since she can
remember, and when she’s in a new, different planet, they both make a deal to
get what they want: Ava, a new life, from scratch, and the demon, her long-awaited revenge
Michelle Czajkowski, the creator of this
project, has spent a lot of time on it, and you can tell it by the level of
quality in every panel, each about half a page. As she tells in her website, it’s
like a visual script for a movie, and what a movie it could be!
There are many different elements in each character,
many references to mythological creatures, social issues and Czajkowski’s
original ideas. All of this makes me think it could be not a movie, but an
amazing TV series, although there are some similarities with animes I’ve seen.
The story so far has been great, with lots of
surprises, and even if I don’t like it when Michelle uses so many panels for a
single scene, it’s still cool to see the images. However, there are some times
when I think the artistic side of Ava's Demon is more important than the script.
Anyway, it’s a very quick reading, I say it
because I practically got done with it in like… a night? Something like that, and
we have new content every Monday and Thursday, with ten panels per update, which
means it’s pretty easy to follow, something I’ve done since I started with it.

La historia es bastante sencilla: en un mundo de fantasía y ciencia ficción, Ava lidia con un demonio que la ha estado atormentando desde que tiene memoria, y cuando ella está en un planeta completamente distinto, ambas hacen un trato para conseguir lo que quieren: Ava, una nueva vida, desde cero, y el demonio, su tan ansiada venganza.
Michelle Czajkowski, la creadora de este proyecto, ha dedicado mucho tiempo a ello, y se puede decir por el nivel de calidad de cada panel, cada uno de media página. Como ella dice en su sitio web, es como un guión visual para una película, ¡y qué película podría ser!
Hay muchos elementos diferentes en cada personaje, muchas referencias a criaturas mitológicas, temas sociales y las ideas originales de Czajkowski. Todo esto me hace pensar que no podría ser una película, sino una serie de televisión increíble, aunque hay algunas similitudes con animes que he visto.La historia hasta ahora ha sido genial, con muchas sorpresas, e incluso si no me gusta cuando Michelle utiliza tantos paneles para una sola escena, todavía es genial ver las imágenes. Sin embargo, hay algunas veces cuando pienso que el lado artístico de Ava's Demon es más importante que el guión.
De todos modos, es una lectura muy rápida, lo digo porque prácticamente lo terminé de leer en como... ¿una noche? Algo así, y tenemos nuevo contenido todos los lunes y jueves, con diez paneles por actualización, lo que significa que es bastante fácil de seguir, algo que he hecho desde que empecé.
