Hey guys, how's life? How has the week been?
Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose |
I have been somewhat removed from my readings for work, I admit, but there is a holy trinity that has saved me: comics, mangas and manhwas, three different ways of telling stories through drawings.
As I know that some may have their doubts about it, I wanted to explain more or less of what each one is going. I take this opportunity to tell you that this is my opinion and that there are exceptions in all three cases, for good and for bad.
The Comic is the best known by all, American or European, and with a solid structure in terms of history, but without much importance in art. It is almost always in color, and try to be as commercial as you can. Let's say I'm in a love-hate relationship with this just for the latter. One that I love is Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose.
With respect to Manga, which is the Japanese version in black and white... I'm rather tired of it. Many of their stories fall into the cliché, safe bets and extreme: they take their genders to the limit, bordering on the ridiculous. Doujinshis, which are independent mangas, are more respectable in many cases. Important: they are the only ones that are read from right to left. I've wanted to read Rozen Maiden for a long while; I loved the anime!
Rozen Maiden |
The one that seems to be my perfect love is the manhwa, the Korean, also black and white version, also in black and white. The stories are more realistic, attractive, art is more stylized and delicate. It has a well-done balance between the two sides, and seems to have some preference for dark or paranormal stories. What I said: the love of my life. The best example is The Tarot Café.
If you want to know a little more about this topic, you can visit Gemma's blog (only in Spanish), a girl who explains much more about what each one and also includes the Manhua, the Chinese variant.
So, do you prefer comics, manga or manhwa? Have you read any? I look forward to your comments!

Hola chicos, ¿qué tal la vida? ¿Cómo
ha estado la semana?
He estado algo alejado de mis
The Tarot Café |
a izquierda.
vida.
Greetings and hugs!
I catch myself calling all of them comics, whether in color or black and white
ResponderBorrarThey are pretty similar, I admit it xD
BorrarAs I said before, comics/manga/etc. are all too overstimulating for me. My husband appreciates the art of comics, the more intricate and detailed the better. I prefer more simple designs, less is more. The only comics I've read are My Little Pony with my kids and the ones in the newspaper, back when I was a kid! I do enjoy looking at comic covers though, where there is one image to focus on! THAT I can handle!
ResponderBorrarMLP? I like colorful comics, and I'm just like your husband, the more detailed the images are, the more I love them, but I'm not really into those children stories xD I could give them a chance once in a while, but that's not a reading I'd be searchign for in a store.
BorrarI knew there were various types but I had no idea there were that strong of differences between them. Very informative article!
ResponderBorrarGlad to know you liked it! ^^
