Carmilla: Season 1

Hello people, how are you feeling today? As you may have noticed, I haven’t yet published my review on Charmed’s final season as promised. Again, Netflix is giving problems, so in the meantime, I spent a great with a web series’ first season I really liked since the beginning: Carmilla.

Based on Sheridan le Fanu’s novella, the story is set in Silas University, a fictional college in Styria, Austria, although this is a Canadian series. Laura Hollis is the main girl and she becomes involved in the strange events at Silas where girls are disappearing.

Things turn weirder when she starts to suspect that her new roommate, Carmilla Karnstein, is more than just implicated in the missing girls, but is also a vampire that may want to kidnap her as well for unknown reasons.

Carmilla surprised me a lot, as I didn’t have any expectations, thought it would be just entertaining, but it also has a great script, telling a lesbian, gothic, love story, good performances, realistic events, and although there is a scene that I didn’t like at all, I can forgive it.

There are not fancy, expensive especial effects, not lots of action, as the episodes, which are usually between 2 and 5 minutes, are mainly recordings of Laura’s video journal, which means: she’s speaking as if she were a vlogger, a youtuber, just like any of us could be.

To be honest, I think this was a brilliant idea, hard to get used to, but great and original. I already finished the first season and can only think about good commentaries. Maybe a little exaggerated on some dialogues, but everything looks great.

Hola gente, ¿cómo se sienten hoy? Como puden haber notado, todavía no he publicado mi reseña sobre la temporada final de Charmed como prometí. Una vez más, Netflix está dando problemas, así que mientras tanto, pasé un gran rato con la primera temporada de una serie web que me gustó bstante desde el principio: Carmilla.

Basado en la novela de Sheridan le Fanu, la historia se desarrolla en Silas University, una universidad de ficción en Estiria, Austria, aunque se trata de una serie canadiense. Laura Hollis es la protagonista y se involucra en los acontecimientos extraños en Silas donde las muchachas están desapareciendo.

Las cosas se vuelven más extrañas cuando empieza a sospechar que su nueva compañera de cuarto, Carmilla Karnstein, está más que implicada en las niñas desaparecidas, sino que también es una vampira que puede querer secuestrarla también por razones desconocidas.
Carmilla me sorprendió mucho, ya que no tenía ninguna expectativa, pensé que sería entretenido, pero también tiene un gran guión, contando una historia de amor lésbica y gótica, buenas actuaciones, eventos realistas, y aunque hay una escena que no me gustó en absoluto, puedo perdonarla.
No hay efectos especiales de lujo, caros, no hay mucha acción, ya que los episodios, que suelen estar entre 2 y 5 minutos, son principalmente grabaciones del diario de Laura, lo que significa: está hablando como si fuera un vlogger, un youtuber, Como cualquiera de nosotros podría ser.

Para ser honesto, creo que fue una idea genial, difícil de acostumbrarse, pero grande y original. Ya terminé la primera temporada y sólo puedo pensar en buenos comentarios. Tal vez un poco exagerado en algunos diálogos, pero todo se ve muy bien.
