Buenos días, Nocturnos. ¿Cómo estuvo ese inicio de año? Ya yo tengo mis planes para el 2021, ¿y ustedes? Hoy vengo para hablarles de un disco que me sorprendió a finales del 2020, el quinto álbum de estudio de Strvngers, Zayka.

Sigo enamorado del trabajo de este dúo canadiense, del la calidad en todo lo que hacen, y específicamente los riesgos que toman musicalmente. Zayka es un disco que se distancia del estilo frenético que suelen tener estos dos, optando por ritmos más lentos, más pausados y atmosféricos. El segundo tema y primer sencillos, Vita Brevis, y la cuarta canción, Moscow, mi favorita personal, es un ejemplo perfecto de esto.

Sin embargo, temas como Disintegration, el segundo sencillo, y Vamp, la sexta pista, recuperan muy bien el estilo de sus discos anteriores. Stockholm Syndrome, el octavo y último tema, sirve como punto medio, dando tanto ritmos rápidos como atmosféricos. Cada una tiene una textura diferente, casi como si Strvngers te acariciaran o aruñaran la piel a medida que las escuchas.

Las letras son mucho más directas que antes, hablando sobre las relaciones tóxicas, esas parejas manipuladoras, que no hacen más que envenenarnos el alma. Es quizás el disco más lúgubre y oscuro en lo que a letras respecta, principalmente por las metáforas y juegos de palabras, así como por lo pegadizas que son sus temas.

Breve pero poderoso, Zayka expande el reperterio de la banda en el mejor de los sentidos, probando una vez más que su creatividad no conoce límites, bien sea musical o líricamente hablando. Strvngers está en el lugar perfecto para aventurarse hacia nuevos territorios, nuevas propuestas, nuevos estilos, reinventarse con cada disco, pero sin nunca dejar atrás su escencia.

I'm still in love with the work of this Canadian duo, with the quality in everything they do, and specifically the risks they take musically. Zayka's an album that distances itself from the frenetic style that these two usually have, opting for slower, more relaxed, and atmospheric rhythms. The second song and first single, Vita Brevis, and the fourth song, Moscow, my personal favorite, are a perfect example of this.

However, songs like Disintegration, the second single, and Vamp, the sixth track, recover very well the style of their previous albums. Stockholm Syndrome, the eighth and final track, serves as the middle ground, delivering both fast and atmospheric beats. Each one has a different texture, almost as if Strvngers are stroking or scratching your skin as you listen to them.

The lyrics are much more direct than before, talking about toxic relationships, those manipulative couples, who do nothing but poison our souls. It's perhaps the gloomiest and darkest album when it comes to lyrics, mainly because of the metaphors and puns, as well as how catchy its songs are.

Brief but powerful, Zayka expands the band's repertoire in the best of ways, proving once again that their creativity knows no limits, be it musically or lyrically speaking. Strvngers is in the perfect place to venture into new territories, new proposals, new styles, reinvent themselves with each album, but without ever leaving their essence behind.
