Buenos días, gente bonita. Espero que estén con ganas de escuchar buena música porque vengo con una canción que me carga enamorado desde que la escuché este fin de semana. Ya he hablado de esta banda antes en el blog, y me siguen sorprendiendo probando nuevos estilos, explorando diferentes ideas, y creando expectativa para cuando salga su próximo álbum de estudio. Se trata de Voices: Synthwave Edition, de Motionless In White. También les dejo la versión original abajo para que comparen ambas.

La versión original es el sexto y último sencillo de su cuarto disco, Graveyard Shift, un tema pesado y de letra torturada. El contraste es muchísimo y el cambio es radical en muchos sentidos. Chris ya había demostrado tener una voz versátil en Another Life / Eternally Yours: Motion Picture Collection, y este tema lo deja aún más en claro.
Lo que más me gusta de este tema es que se aleja muchísimo del estilo pesado y estridente de Motionless In White, especialmente si lo comparo con la versión original. Sin embargo, Voices: Synthwave Edition mantiene ese toque salvaje aunque tenga un ritmo lento e hipnótico. Ha habido algunos comentarios negativos por lo diferente, pero se me hizo difícil dejar de escucharlo luego de la primera vez.
Sí digo que esperaba un coro un poco más energético porque el ritmo es muy minimalista y repetitivo en ocasiones. Supongo que eso podría ser un problema para algunos fans de la banda, pero Chris Cerulli le da suficientes cambios a toda la pista solo con su voz melodiosa. Hay algunos toques guturales en el puente, pero más que nada es un canto muy limpio que complementa la música.
Motionless In White le dio un toque bizarro a uno de sus mejores temas, dándole un estilo suave y oscuro al mismo tiempo. Voices: Synthwave Edition es una caricia a los oídos que fácilmente podría haber tenido un video dirigido por Tim Burton. Es agridulce que este sea el último experimento de cuarentena de la banda, como lo dicen en su Instagram, principalmente porque su próximo disco será muy agresivo, pero solo hace que estas rarezas sean aún más especiales.

I've talked about this band before on the blog, and they keep surprising me by trying new styles, exploring different ideas, and building anticipation for when their next studio album comes out. The original version is the sixth and last single from his fourth album, Graveyard Shift, a heavy song with tortured lyrics. The contrast is vast and the change is radical in many ways. Chris had already shown himself to have a versatile voice in Another Life / Eternally Yours: Motion Picture Collection, and this theme makes that even clearer.
What I like the most about this song is that it's a far cry from the heavy and strident style of Motionless In White, especially when compared to the original version. However, Voices: Synthwave Edition maintains that wild touch even though it has a slow and hypnotic rhythm. There have been some negative comments for the difference, but it was hard for me to stop listening to it after the first time.
I do say that I expected a chorus a little more energetic because the rhythm is very minimalist and repetitive at times. I suppose that could be a problem for some fans of the band, but Chris Cerulli gives enough changes to the whole track just with his melodious vocals. There are some guttural touches on the bridge, but more than anything it's a very clean chant that complements the music.
Motionless In White added a bizarre touch to one of their best songs, giving it a soft, dark style at the same time. Voices: Synthwave Edition is a caress to the ears that could easily have had a video directed by Tim Burton. It's bittersweet that this is the band's latest quarantine experiment, as they say on their Instagram, mainly because their next album will be very aggressive, but it only makes these oddities even more special.
