Empecé esta serie hace tiempo, pero hace algunos días pude ponerme una vez más con ella. Recordaba algunos aspectos generales, sabía que el arte me iba a encantar, y dicho y hecho, henos aquí, un lector bastante satisfecho luego de leer Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2, por James Tynion IV y Werther Dell’Edera. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar a cambio de una reseña honesta!
EL MAL NUNCA MUERE... A MENOS QUE ERICA SLAUGHTER LO MATE.Puede que Erica Slaughter haya matado al monstruo que aterrorizaba a la pequeña ciudad de Archer's Peak, en Wisconsin, pero el horror está lejos de terminar. Cuando su misterioso controlador llega a la ciudad para limpiar su desorden y poner en cuarentena a la gente del pueblo, Erica se adentra más en el bosque, porque el monstruo que mató era una madre... y ahora necesita matar a sus hijos.
Este es un volumen más atmosférico que el anterior, con bastante tensión, un crescendo constante que te pone los pelos de gallina, una historia que se pone más oscura y escabrosa conforme avanza. El tiempo se me pasó volando inmerso en todo lo que estaba pasando y las participaciones de Erica, aunque ella no es la única con protagonismo.
Lo mejor del guión es que maneja un elenco un tanto extenso, cada personaje con sus propias características, cada uno con sus propios problemas, y cada uno recibe suficiente atención. Esto da como resultado un volumen balanceado, que si bien carece de mucha acción, lo compensa con el desarrollo.
El arte no se queda atrás. Con un estilo brusco, crudo, perfecto para el tono de la historia, el lado visual de este cómic se vuelve un elemento fundamental, parte importante de su identidad. Los tonos oscuros, la distribución de los paneles que juegan con el espacio de dos páginas, y los colores brillantes que contrastan más de una vez no hacen sino sumarle puntos a un libro de por sí fuerte.
Sí siento que la narración de quedó un poco lenta en algunas ocasiones, y que el final no tuvo la fuerza que los creadores esperaban; lo sentí más flojo de lo que esperaba, pero en general es un volumen muy bien logrado. Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2 sienta las bases para un final prometedor, y les adelanto que quedé satisfecho.

I remembered some general aspects, I knew I was going to love art, and said and done, here we are, a fairly satisfied reader after reading Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2, by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. EVIL NEVER DIES...UNLESS ERICA SLAUGHTER KILLS IT.Erica Slaughter may have slain the monster terrorizing the small Wisconsin town of Archer’s Peak, but the horror is far from over. As her mysterious handler arrives in town to clean up her mess and quarantine the townsfolk, Erica sets off deeper into the woods -- because the monster she killed was a mother… and now she needs to kill its children.
This is a more atmospheric volume than the previous one, with quite a bit of tension, a constant crescendo that gives you goosebumps, a story that gets darker and more lurid as it progresses. Time flew by immersed in everything that was happening and Erica's participation, although she's not the only one with a leading role.
The best thing about the script is that it handles a rather extensive cast, each character with their own characteristics, each with their own problems, and each one gets enough attention. This results in a balanced volume, which although it lacks a lot of action, it makes up for with development.
Art is not far behind. With a rough, raw style, perfect for the tone of the story, the visual side of this comic becomes a fundamental element, an important part of its identity. The dark tones, the distribution of the panels that play with the space of two pages, and the bright colors that contrast more than once only add points to an already strong book.
I do feel that the narration was a bit slow on some occasions, and that the ending did not have the strength that the creators expected; I felt it looser than I expected, but in general it is a very well achieved volume. Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2 lays the groundwork for a promising ending, and I tell you, I'm satisfied.
