Feliz inicio de semana, gente bonita. Hay un libro del que les quiero hablar, de esas lecturas que te encantan apenas empiezas a leer y se quedan contigo mucho tiempo después de terminar. Corta pero efectiva, Solar Punks, por Gume Laurel III, me puso a soñar desde el primer momento gracias a su estilo y sus personajes. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Veny Juárez vive en la aislada aldea isleña de Isla Sola, un paraíso alimentado por energía limpia y renovable. Cada miembro de la comunidad debe profundizar sus conocimientos científicos y trabajar arduamente para asegurar que Isla Sola se mantenga próspera y en armonía con la naturaleza. Pero Veny, a quien se le ha negado la oportunidad de tener una pareja, prefiere dejar sus tareas y surfear. Un día, las olas del mar son más fuertes de lo normal. Veny casi se ahoga, pero es rescatado por Mateo, un extraño del mundo exterior. Aturdido y asustado, Mateo le ruega a Veny que lo esconda antes de que alguien más sepa de él. Veny accede, pero sin saberlo, ha dado la bienvenida a un antiguo peligro en Isla Sola. La historia es sumamente enternecedora. Estuve sonriendo de inicio a fin mientras leía, descubriendo a mayor profundidad a cada uno de los personajes. Todos son tan humanos que conectas con ellos en poco tiempo, cosa que no parece fácil de lograr con tan pocas palabras. Las aspiraciones, miedos, e inseguridades de Veny son tan familiares que conectas con él al instante.

El estilo de Gume está lo suficientemente pulido como para dar una base sólida de lo que pasa en Isla Sola. Evocativo, descriptivo, y lleno de fantasía, te transporta a un paraíso tropical que te enamora, incluso si eres un ser de montañas como lo soy yo. Siempre he preferido el frío de las alturas que el calor de la costa, pero Gume te hace cambiar de opinión mientras que estás inmerso en la lectura.

Hay momentos de tensión que juegan con tus emociones, y aunque es una novela juvenil, hay temas adultos que te hacen ver las cosas de otra forma. Se trata de una historia ubicada en un futuro muy probable, sementada en situaciones actuales. El hecho de que sea una historia rápida no implica que el impacto sea menos, sino todo lo contrario.

En líneas generales, Solar Punks es una novela en verso preciosa que te pone a pensar y soñar, te presenta un escenario muy familiar, similar al que vivimos y al que podríamos estarnos acercando. Gume Laurel III creó un mundo fascinante que no te deja indiferente, el marco perfecto para una historia de amor inusual pero que también habla de un futuro no muy improbable. Sencillamente impecable.

Short but effective, Solar Punks, por Gume Laurel III, had me dreaming from the very first moment thanks to its style and characters. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy!

Veny Juarez lives in the secluded island village of Isla Sola, a paradise powered by clean, renewable energy. Each community member must deepen their scientific knowledge and work hard to ensure Isla Sola remains prosperous and in harmony with nature. But Veny, who has been denied the opportunity to have a life partner, would rather skip his chores and go surfing. One day, the ocean waves are harsher than normal. Veny nearly drowns, but is rescued by Mateo--a stranger from the outside world. Rattled and afraid, Mateo begs Veny to hide him before anyone else learns of him. Veny agrees to this, but he has unknowingly welcomed a danger of old onto Isla Sola. With Mateo's presence, dark days are sure to follow, and with them, the truth behind the history of Isla Sola.

The story is incredibly endearing. I smiled from beginning to end as I read, discovering a deeper understanding of each of the characters. They are all so human that you connect with them quickly, something that doesn't seem easy to achieve with so few words. Veny's aspirations, fears, and insecurities are so relatable that you connect with him instantly.

Gume's style is polished enough to provide a solid foundation for what happens on Isla Sola. Evocative, descriptive, and full of fantasy, it transports you to a tropical paradise that will make you fall in love, even if you're a mountain person like me. I've always preferred the cold of the heights to the warmth of the coast, but Gume makes you change your mind while you're immersed in the book.

There are moments of tension that play with your emotions, and although it's a young adult novel, there are adult themes that make you see things differently. This is a story set in a very probable future, rooted in current situations. The fact that it's a fast-paced story doesn't mean it's less impactful—quite the opposite.

Overall, Solar Punks is a beautiful verse novel that makes you think and dream. It presents a very familiar setting, similar to the one we live in and one we could be approaching. Gume Laurel III created a fascinating world that leaves no one indifferent, the perfect setting for an unusual love story that also speaks to a not-so-improbable future. Simply impeccable.
