Hello hello! How are you, Nighters? ^^ I hope you are enjoying the holidays. In the midst of so much happiness and smiles and sweetness, there came a time when I needed to rebalance the balance, give emotion to my December, and what better than a bloody retelling of a fairy tale?
Zombie Cinderella, by Kevin Richey, is the first story that makes up the Zombie Fairy Tales series, which has been very well received by the public, and now I see why! It is a story that twists the classic story in a cruel and inhuman way impossible not to love.
It all starts with the funeral of Cinderella's father, who is abandoned in the cemetery during a winter night by her stepmother and stepsisters. After being savagely attacked, the girl barely manages to reach her home, where her "family" makes her work until she dies. Yet death is nothing but a trigger for a majestic revenge.
I loved reading Zombie Cinderella for two reasons. The first is because the story is very true to the original, retaining the emblematic charm, but turning everything into a horror movie which atmosphere catches you without realizing it.
The second reason was the style of Kevin Richey. The author tells everything in such a detailed way that he makes you imagine even the smallest of details, and believe me that this plays against you as a reader when you reach the climax of the story. After Cinderella is resurrected, things become much more interesting, but not suitable for sensitive, little hearts.
I thought I'd only flip through the first pages, but Zombie Cinderella gets you in the eyes and won't let you go until you finish it. It's not a particularly long story, but rather a tale from which a saga originates that I'm eager to follow. While the original story teaches us the value of forgiveness and humility, this monstrous retelling by Kevin Richey shows us the consequences of abuse, harassment, mistreatment, and how they can transform even the noblest girl.
Zombie Cinderella is a perfect read for lovers of the most graphic terror, children's stories and social criticism, or for those who seek to delight in a dark and uncensored narrative. I don't know about you, but I'm in love with this princess.
Greetings and hugs!
