The story follows the plot that started with Songs for the Dead. Far from over, the adventures of Bethany and Elissar continue as they search for the Covenant, a group of necromancers that Bethany hopes to belong to. However, a strange disease with no apparent cure wreaks havoc, and both girls decide to investigate what's really going on.
When I finished the original series, I was sure a follow-up would come, so I didn't hesitate for a second when I saw that it was available. I devoured this first chapter in one day, but it left me with a strange taste in my mouth because of how slow it was. While the first series was dynamic, full of action, adventure, and surprises, The Necromancer's Map #1 started without regret.
The rhythm was not the same, it seemed as if someone else had written the script, even though it bore the imprint of Heron and Fort and was the same style. Something didn't quite fit, although it was interesting and entertaining. I felt the same way about art. Sam Beck showed off on Songs for the Dead, but I feel like he didn't put much dedication to this comic.
However, it is only a first issue, somewhat lazy and not very funny, but entertaining, light, and the universe where the story unfolds is still rich in fantasy and adventure. The finale The Necromancer's Map #1 could be the doorway for this series to move forward, and I hope it is.
