Creo que ya ha quedado claro que me gusta mucho Disney, o mejor dicho, las viejas películas de Disney. Gracias al maravilloso mundo del internet, me enteré de que la House of Mouse está preparando MUCHAS adaptaciones de sus clásicos, y henos aquí, para hablar al respecto.
Soy un fan declarado de los retellings. Me llama mucho la atención
el reinventar una historia, volverla algo nuevo, y si se trata de cuentos de
hadas, mejor aún. Ni si quiera Cassandra Clare escapa de esto, porque resulta
que la trilogía The Last Hours es un retelling de Great Expectations, de
Charles Dickens (¿les conté que leí parte del primer libro, Chain
of Gold?).
Ahora bien, a lo que nos compete.
Aunque Disney no ha tenido muchos aciertos con sus live-actions, las elecciones
que hizo para sus próximos proyectos son muy interesantes, y algunas se prestan
para ser películas muy macabras. Estos son los que más me llaman la atención
- Mulán: Disney se tomó MUCHAS libertades al adaptar esta leyenda china. La nueva versión, que está por salir, ha sido muy criticada por las diferencias (no Li Shang, no Mushu, no música, no Mushu, hay una bruja, y Mulán tiene un poder mágico. Ah, y no aparece Mushu). Por los trailers, parece que será una película centrada en la acción, así que hay que abrir un poco la mente. Confío en que será igual de buena que la primera, si evitamos compararlas.
- Hércules: Igual que con la anterior, la producción cambió demasiados aspectos del mito griego original, y espero una historia mucho más fiel. La relación de Hércules con Hera era totalmente distinta, y verlo enfrentarse a la madre de los dioses haría las cosas mucho más atractivas, ¿y por qué no también a Hades? Mucho mejor.
- El Hada Madrina: Este proyecto me hizo mucho ruido mental cuando lo leí. Resulta que Disney está preparando una película basada en el Hada Madrina de la Cenicienta, y es todo lo que se sabe. Aunque la adaptación fue demasiado azucarada para mi gusto, la actuación de Helena Bonham Carter fue excelente, y verla de nuevo en el rol no estaría nada mal.
- Genios: Otro proyecto extraño que no termino de entender, y que me da mucho miedo por el resultado que pueda tener. Se supone que es una precuela de Aladdin (ni idea de si será la animada o el detestable live-action, aunque bien podría servir para ambos). Se supone que explorará los orígenes del genio de la lámpara, y solo eso se sabe. Crucemos los dedos para que todo salga bien.
- El Jorobado de Notre Dame: Una de las que más espero y ansío ver. Mi primo y yo volvimos a ver la película animada cuando supimos que la Catedral de Notre Dame en París se incendió. Creo que estamos todos de acuerdo en que es una de las más oscuras de Disney, si no la más macabra de todas. Tantos temas entrelazados, sub tramas, ideas, y todo presentado de manera tan cuidada y natural hacen que tenga MUY ALTAS expectativas para con esta película. Será difícil superar a esta joya.
- Chernabog: Es quizás el más raro de todos los proyectos que se trae Disney. Este villano solo tuvo unos minutos en Fantasia, pero se ha convertido en una especie de ícono entre los personajes malignos y oscuros de la casa del ratón. No se sabe casi nada de este poyecto, pero las posibilidades son tantas que es imposible no emocionarse. (Disney, don’t fuck this up como con Maléfica, please).
- Lilo y Stitch: Será extraño ver al pequeño alienígena en vida real. Los animales en vida real no han sido muy bien recibidos, así que será una jugada arriesgada. La producción la tiene difícil, pero confío en que sea una adaptación tierna y esponjosa.
- La Espada en la Piedra: Este clásico olvidado también será reinventado, aunque se desconocen los detalles. Ya quiero ver a Madame Mim pelear contra Merlín, o la cocina encantada de Arturo. Es una historia con un potencial estético inmenso junto con la posibilidad de hacerla más dramática.
- Blanca Nieves y los Siete Enanitos: Lo mejor para el final. Esta es mi película favorita de Disney, y tiene a mi villana favorita también, así que estoy muriendo de ganas por ver con qué salen. Se sabe casi nada al respecto, pero la historia original de Blanca Nieves es muy distinta a la versión azucarada que vimos de niños (pronto les contaré la razón), así que esta podría ser la oportunidad de Disney para hacer algo más oscuro y tétrico.
- Blanca Nieves y Rosa Roja: No contentos con reinventar su primera película animada, los productores están preparando una versión en donde Blanca Nieves tiene una hermana, Rosa Roja, quién jugará un papel clave en despertar a la princesa, junto con el príncipe. Esto me suena a triángulo amoroso, con creces, pero la idea me encanta. Si no saben quién es esta chica, atentos al blog, que pronto hablaré sobre ella también. *guiño*

The new version, which is about to come out, has been widely criticized for the differences (not Li Shang, not Mushu, not music, not Mushu, there is a witch, and Mulan has a magical power. Oh, and Mushu does not appear). Because of the trailers, it seems that it will be an action-centered film, so we have to open our mind a bit. I hope it will be just as good as the first one, if we avoid comparing them.
- Hercules: As with the previous one, the production changed too many aspects of the original Greek myth, and I expect a much more faithful story. Hercules' relationship with Hera was totally different, and seeing him face the mother of the gods would make things much more attractive, and why not also Hades? Even better.
- The Fairy Godmother: This project made a lot of mental noise when I read about it. It turns out that Disney's preparing a movie based on Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, and that's all that is known so far. Although the adaptation was too sugary for my taste, the performance of Helena Bonham-Carter was excellent, and seeing her again in the role wouldn't be bad.
- Genies: Another strange project that I don't quite understand, and that scares me because of the result it may have. It is supposed to be a prequel to Aladdin (no idea if it will be the lively or the detestable live-action, although it could well serve both). It is supposed to explore the origins of the lamp genie, and that's all we know. Let's cross our fingers so that everything goes well.
- The Hunchback of Notre-Dame: One of the ones I most hope and look forward to seeing. My cousin and I saw the animated movie again when we learned that the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris caught fire. I think we all agree that it's one of the darkest of Disney, if not the most macabre of all. So many interwoven themes, sub-plots, ideas, and everything presented in such a careful and natural way make me have VERY HIGH expectations for this movie. It will be hard to beat this gem.
- Chernabog: It is perhaps the rarest of all the projects that Disney brings. This villain only had a few minutes in Fantasia 2000, but it has become a kind of icon among the evil and dark characters of the House of Mouse. Almost nothing is known about this project, but the possibilities are so many that it's impossible not to get excited. (Disney, don't fuck this up as with Maleficent, please).
- Lilo and Stitch: It will be strange to see the little alien in real life. Real-life animals have not been very well received, so it will be a risky move. The production has it hard, but I hope it is a cute and fluffy adaptation.
- The Sword in the Stone: This forgotten classic will also be reinvented, although the details are unknown. I want to see Madame Mim fight Merlin, or Arturo's enchanted kitchen. It is a story with immense aesthetic potential along with the possibility of making it more dramatic.
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The best for last. This is my favorite Disney movie, and it has my favorite villain too, so I'm dying to see what they come out with. Almost nothing is known about it, but the original story of Snow White is very different from the sugary version we saw as children (I will tell you the reason soon), so this could be Disney's opportunity to do something darker and gloomier.
- Snow White and Rose Red: Not content to reinvent their first animated film, the producers are preparing a version where Snow White has a sister, Rose Red, who will play a key role in waking the princess, along with the prince. This sounds like a love triangle to me, by far, but I love the idea. If you don't know who this girl is, keep an eye on the blog, I'll talk about her soon as well. *wink*
