¡Esta antología fue una agradable sorpresa! Realmente me gustó cómo algunos de los cuentos cambiaron y se convirtieron en una historia diferente, aunque otros, como Rapunzel y (mi favorito), el Flautista de Hamelin, no tuvieron muchas novedades. De las nueve historias incluidas, las cuatro de Alemania son las más oscuras y, por supuesto, las amo más.

Hay varios estilos aquí, que van desde el aspecto de anime al americano, e incluso un enfoque más experimental. Hay un poco de todo para todos, pero me gustó el tono general más oscuro en todos los cuentos, algunos de los cuales incluso incluían violencia pero siempre adecuados para los niños; ¡tal vez incluso a los adolescentes les gustaría echarle un vistazo!

Kel McDonald y Kate Ashwin hicieron un gran trabajo aquí, ¡y, por supuesto, el resto de los creadores también! Me enamoré particularmente de Tatterhood, por Kate y Shaggy Shanahan, Rapunzel de Lin Visel Ovens y Hamelin’s Piper de José Pimienta. I’m on my third day in a row with no internet (I wrote the entry when there was none, hehe,) so I’ve been reading more, but it also means that, if I happen to disappear all of a sudden for no explanation… Well, you will know why… Anyway, today I want to tell you about a great comic anthology I just read and I’m sure you will enjoy: The Nixie of the Mill-Pond and Other European Stories, edited by Kel McDonald and Kate Ashwin. This anthology was a nice surprise! I really liked how some of the tales changed and become a different story, although others, like Rapunzel and (favorite of mine) Hamelin’s Piper, didn't have much news. Of the nine stories included, the four from Germany are the darkest ones, and of course I love them the most.

There are several style in here, going from the anime-looking to western, and even a more experimental approach. There is a bit of everything for everyone, but I liked the general darker tone on all of the tales, some of which even included violence but always suited to children; maybe even teenagers would like to have a look at it!

Kel McDonald and Kate Ashwin did a great job here, and of course the rest of the creators as well! I was particularly in love with Tatterhood, by Kate and Shaggy Shanahan, Rapunzel by Lin Visel Ovens, and Hamelin’s Piper by José Pimienta. I found this anthology interesting mostly because, although not aimed to be educational, it kept the morals and lessons (and the charm, which is essential) of the original tales. I would have loved to read this when I was in school, that’s for sure.

The Nixie of the Mill-Pond and Other European Stories was nice, funny and charming. It's a much-needed dose of fantasy to disconnect from the real world and dwell in the magical world of fables. Although it seems long, it takes no time to read it and you will want to go over it again and again, discovering new layers of meaning in these adventures. An awesome reading!
