Evanescence - Use My Voice (Video)

Buen día, gente. ¿Cómo les va? Hace pocos de días, Evanescence estrenó el video de Use My Voice, el tercer sencillo de su próximo álbum, The Bitter Truth. Tengo que decirlo: Es una cosa hermosa, preciosa, y que le eriza la piel a cualquiera. Es sencillo, pero visualmente poderoso y con planos que impresionan por el simbolismo que contienen.

Evidentemente me voy a enfocar en el video por esta vez, y tengo que decir que me encantó. Evanescence siempre ha sido sinónimo de atractivo visual (salvo los dos sencillos anteriores, que me parecieron sin gloria y sin gracia), y este lo demostraron en esta ocasión, en donde los temas de las elecciones, la represión policial y el racismo que se ha vivido en Estados Unidos quedan muy claros.

Una de las primeras escenas muestra a Amy mirando fijamente a la Casa Blanca. Sus ojos dicen tantas cosas, expresan el mensaje entero de la canción en esos pocos segundos, justo antes de que empiece la revuelta que caracteriza las escenas siguiente. Amy Lee siempre ha sido clara en que no quiere vender su cuerpo o mostrarse provocativa en los videos para que el mensaje sea el foco, cosa que llevó a un nuevo nivel al aparecer desaliñada y con una expresión agotada en esta ocasión.

En todo momento vi a la mujer, a la madre, a la hermana, y no a la cantante o a la artista. Lo mismo sucede con los demás integrantes de la banda, que aparecen en distintas tomas, visiblemente cansados y desarreglados, como si hubiesen pasado muchas noches trabajando o sin dormir. Y de los participantes del video, casi todos afroamericanos, ni se diga. Se ve toda una historia detrás de cada rostro.

Hay varias sorpresas, cameos y escenas simbólicas a lo largo de Use My Voice que le dan potencia a un tema que destaca solo por su música, pero cuyo mensaje alcanza mayores alturas gracias al trabajo que hizo Evanescence en esta ocasión. Evidentemente The Bitter Truth va a causar la misma impresión.

Good day, people. How are you doing? A few days ago, Evanescence released the video for Use My Voice, the third single from their upcoming album, The Bitter Truth. I have to say it: It's a beautiful, precious thing, and that makes anyone's skin crawl. It's simple, but visually powerful and with shots that impress for the symbolism they contain.

Obviously I'm going to focus on the video for this time, and I have to say I loved it. Evanescence has always been synonymous with visual appeal (except for the two previous singles, which seemed inglorious and graceless to me,) and this was demonstrated on this occasion, where the themes of elections, police repression and racism that have been lived in the United States are very clear.

One of the first scenes shows Amy staring at the White House. Her eyes say so many things, they express the entire message of the song in those few seconds, just before the revolt that characterizes the following scenes begins. Amy Lee has always been clear that she does not want to sell her body or be provocative in videos so that the message is the focus, which she took to a new level by appearing disheveled and with an exhausted expression this time.

At all times I saw the woman, the mother, the sister, and not the singer or the artist. The same happens with the other members of the band, who appear in different shots, visibly tired and untidy, as if they had spent many nights working or without sleeping. And for the participants in the video, almost all African American, I have no words. You see a whole story behind each face.

There are several surprises, cameos and symbolic scenes throughout Use My Voice that give power to a song that stands out only for its music, but which message reaches greater heights thanks to the work that Evanescence did on this occasion. Obviously The Bitter Truth is going to make the same impression.
