Buenos días, gente bonita. Espero que ese fin de semana les haya ido muy bien y que hayan sido productivos. Yo no lo fui mucho, mea culpa, ¡pero actualicé Ars Viatoris en Wattpad! Hay un nuevo relato esperando por ustedes y con buena música de fondo, y es justamente de eso de lo que vengo a hablarles hoy, de buena música, aunque de un video no tan bueno. Se trata de 23rd Monster, de Ayumi Hamasaki, cuyo video se estrenó el 18 de junio.

Es difícil hacer una reseña crítica de una cantante tan legendaria como lo es Ayu, como es conocida por sus fans, la artista más exitosa en Asia de todos los tiempos, incluso llamada la Emperatriz del JPop, y más aún considerando que perdió la audición en su oído izquierdo y está perdiendo gran parte del oído derecho. Sin embargo, en lo que al material respecta, tengo opiniones divididas.
He seguido a Ayu de manera esporádica, y es una cantante que ha mantenido un estilo muy sólido, lleno profesionalismo y dedicación en todo momento. 23rd Monster es la celebración de 23 años de carrera, y lo hace con fuerza, una letra escrita por la cantante que habla sobre la intrepidez, la valentía, un ritmo pegajoso por pero lleno de energía, y una vibra muy oscura, compuesto por Kazuhiro Hara. Leí por allí que la voz de Ayumi Hamasaki suena mal en este sencillo, pero me encanta lo mayor que se escucha y las notas que alcanza en algunos segmentos.
Visualmente hablando es más complejo. El concepto gótico del video, el mejor estilo Inframundo, atrae a cualquiera, y hay varias tomas que me encantan, especialmente esa imagen al final que da mucha esperanza luego de tan violencia artística. La fotografía es preciosa, eso es innegable. Sin embargo, la dirección deja mucho que desear. La coreografía se ve desperdiciada en favor de enfocar a Ayumi en todo momento, y huyendo del equilibrio como si se tratara de la plaga. Incluso cuando es la música la que toma el control, aunque esperas ver a los bailarines ser los protagonistas, solo te ponen a dos por unos segundos. En ese aspecto, un teaser que trasnmite más energía es mucho más interesante de ver.
Aunque no entiendo qué pasó con el video, 23rd Monster es un tema que me encanta y que confirma el talento de la más grande de las leyendas asiáticas. Ayumi Hamasaki es uno de los nombres más prolíferos de la industria japonesa, y este sencillo lo demuestra, aunque el video diga todo lo contrario. No sé en qué estaba pensando el director Hideaki Sunaga, pero me quedo totalmente con la canción. No necesito ni que pensarlo.

However, when it comes to the material, I have divided opinions.
I have followed Ayu sporadically, and she's a singer who has maintained a very solid style, full of professionalism and dedication at all times. 23rd Monster is celebrating 23 years of career, and it does it with force, a lyric written by the singer that talks about fearlessness, bravery, a catchy but energetic beat, and a very dark vibe, composed by Kazuhiro Hara. I read over there that Ayumi Hamasaki's voice sounds bad on this single, but I love how mature it sounds and the notes she reaches in some segments.
Visually speaking it is more complex. The gothic concept of the video, in the best Underworld style, attracts anyone, and there are several shots that I love, especially that image at the end that gives a lot of hope after such artistic violence. The photography is beautiful, that's undeniable. However, the direction leaves a lot to be desired. The choreography is wasted in favor of focusing on Ayumi at all times and fleeing from the balance as if it were the plague. Even when it's the music that takes over, although you expect to see the dancers take center stage, they only put you at two for a few seconds. In that regard, a teaser that transmits the most energy is much more interesting to watch.
Although I do not understand what happened to the video, 23rd Monster is a song that I love and that confirms the talent of the greatest of Asian legends. Ayumi Hamasaki is one of the most prolific names in the Japanese industry, and this single proves it, even if the video says the opposite. I don't know what director Hideaki Sunaga was thinking, but I totally stick with the song. I don't even need to think about it.
