Pensando: ¿Leer para escribir? / Thinking: Reading to write?

Buenos días, gentecita. ^^ ¿Listos para el fin de semana? Hace un par de días leí algo en las redes sociales, puntualmente una publicación en el IG de Jonaira Campagnuolo donde le preguntaba a sus seguidores si creían que un escritor no debería leer. Hace tiempo había visto algo así también, pero no le presté tanta atención como ahora, y estoy seguro de que ya adivinarán mi respuesta.

La propia Jonaira dijo que parecía algo al estilo "la levadura no es buena para el pan", y estoy completamente de acuerdo. Alguien que me diga qué tienen en la cabeza los que dicen que así funcionan las cosas, porque para mí no tiene sentido por ningún lugar. Si bien es cierto que ya no hago caso a muchos de los consejos para escribir que inundan las redes sociales, decir que no hace falta leer para escribir es como decir que no hace falta comer para cocinar.

Hubo un tiempo en que leía de todo, buscaba todo, hasta que encontré mi mundo entre la fantasía y las criaturas paranormales. Los que me conocen saben que me encanta la magia, la brujería, que incluso la practico, y he incluído referencias al Paganismo en mis libros, pero lo mío siempre son los mundos imaginarios. Sin embargo, no leo fantasía exclusivamente, sino también terror, literatura gótica, romance paranormal, crímenes reales, historia, cómics, mangas, y pare usted de contar.

Dianna M. Marquès ha dicho varias veces que no le gusta leer mientras escribir porque siente que se influencia, y también estoy de acuerdo hasta cierto punto. Pienso que está bien mantener cierta distancia para mantenerte fiel a ti mismo, pero de allí a no leer nada ya es demasiado, literalmente caer en la arrogancia.

Fue gracias a la lectura que empecé a escribir, específicamente por tres libros: Juan Salvador Gaviota, La Emperatríz de los Etéreos, y Crepúsculo. Leer es lo que me mantiene con ideas con las cuales escaparme de la realidad, es lo que me mantiene creativo, y lo que me motiva a escribir. Que un escritor no lea es como que un chef no coma en otros restaurantes o que un artista no vaya a museos ni galerias. Es mediocridad por querer ser altivo.

Todos pueden tener sus manías al momento de escribir (el cielo sabe que tengo varias, y he luchado para poder terminar esta entrada, jeje), pero no leer para que tu estilo no se contamine me parece un sin sentido. ¿Qué dicen ustedes?

A couple of days ago I read something on social networks, specifically a post on Jonaira Campagnuolo's IG where she asked her followers if they believed that a writer should not read. I saw something like that a long time ago, but I didn't pay as much attention to it as I do now, and I'm sure you'll guess my answer.

Jonaira herself said that it seemed something along the lines of "yeast is not good for bread", and I completely agree. Someone tell me what those who say that this is how things work have in their minds, because for me it doesn't make sense anywhere. While it is true that I no longer listen to many of the writing tips that floods social networks, saying that you don't have to read to write is like saying that you don't have to eat to cook.

There was a time when I read everything, I looked for everything, until I found my world between fantasy and paranormal creatures. Those who know me know that I love magic, witchcraft, that I even practice it, and I have included references to Paganism in my books, but my thing is always imaginary worlds. However, I do not read exclusively fantasy, but also horror, gothic literature, paranormal romance, true crimes, history, comics, manga, and stop counting.

Dianna M. Marquès has said several times that she does not like to read while writing because she feels that she is being influenced, and I also agree to some extent. I think it's okay to keep a certain distance to stay true to yourself, but from there to not reading anything is too much, literally falling into arrogance.

It was thanks to reading that I began to write, specifically for three books: Jonathan Livingston Seagull, La Emperatríz de los Etéreos, and Twilight. Reading is what keeps me with ideas with which to escape reality, is what keeps me creative, and what motivates me to write. That a writer does not read is like that a chef does not eat in other restaurants or that an artist does not go to museums or galleries. It is mediocrity for wanting to be haughty.

Everyone can have their manias at the time of writing (heaven knows I have several, and I have struggled to finish this entry, hehe), but not reading so that your style is not contaminated seems to me nonsense. What do you think about?
