Buen día, nocturnos, ¿cómo les ha ido?
Hace un tiempo tuve la oportunjdiad de leer un manga bastante interesante, el cual fue mi introducción al Horror Lovecraftiano. Se trata de Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 1, por Kaili Sorano, una primera entrega que me dejó con muchas ganas de más.
Nos encontramos ante dos chicos completamente distintos. Uno es un deportista irrespetado por sus compañeros debido a su tamaño, y el otro un alumno ejemplar, mayor, versado en lo oculto, teorías conspirativas, y temas similares. Ambos chicos se vuelven un dúo disparejo cuando descubren que hay seres planta devorahombres andando en plena luz del día, y que alguien los está cazando, además de ellos.
Les seré sincero, no tenía expectativas con respecto a esta historia. Mi principal problema con los mangas shonen (dirigidos a adolescentes hombres) es que casi siempre muestran a personajes detestables, débiles, con un pasado oscuro y un potencial menospreciado. Para mi sorpresa, no vi ninguno de estos elementos en Parham Itan, sino todo lo contrario.
Kaili Sorano explica todo muy bien, crea personajes humanos, aunque sin dejar de lado ese humor absurdo que nos encanta ver en los mangas, creando una historia de horror que te estremece y te hace reír a partes iguales. El tiempo voló mientras leía esta historia, de verdad.
Parham Itan es de esas historias que te dejan sin aliento por su final. Aunque demasiado abierto, el lector se pregunta qué pasará después, además de quedarse con un sabor agridulce en la boca: justo cuando mejor se pone la cosa, finis. A veces odio ser lector.
Atrapante, tétrico y oscuro, Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 1, por Kaili Sorano, cosecha críticas positivas por donde se mire. Gracias a la editorial por el ejemplar. ¡Espero ansioso el siguiente capítulo!

Some time ago I had the opportunity to read a very interesting manga, which was my introduction to the Lovecraftian Horror. This is Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 1, by Kaili Sorano, a first installment that left me wanting more.
We are faced with two completely different boys. One is an athlete disrespected by his teammates due to his size, and the other an exemplary, older student, well versed in the occult, conspiracy theories, and similar subjects. Both boys become an uneven duo when they discover that there are beings devouring men walking in broad daylight and that someone is hunting them, besides them.
I will be honest, I had no expectations regarding this story. My main problem with shonen sleeves (aimed at male teenagers) is that they almost always show detestable, weak characters, with a dark past and underrated potential. To my surprise, I did not see any of these elements in Parham Itan, but quite the opposite.
Kaili Sorano explains everything very well, creates human characters, although without neglecting that absurd humor that we love to see in the sleeves, creating a horror story that shakes you and makes you laugh in equal parts. Time flew while reading this story, really.
Parham Itan is one of those stories that leave you breathless by its end. Although too open, the reader wonders what will happen next, in addition to staying with a bittersweet taste in the mouth: just when you put the best thing, finis. Sometimes I hate being a reader.
Enticing, gloomy and dark, Parham Itan: Tales From Beyond Volume 1, by Kaili Sorano, reaps positive reviews wherever you look. Thanks to the publisher for the copy. I look forward to the next chapter!
