Cómic: Alice Ever After #4

¿Cuál es esa lectura que les puso los pelos de punta? Para mí fue Alice Ever After #4, por Dan Panosian y Giorgio Spalletta. Lo leí anoche antes de dormir y quedé encantado con la evolución y desarrollo de la historia. Fue una sorpresa tras otra, y aunque corto, fue un número muy satisfactorio. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Alice, a merced de su padre y del Dr. Madsen, enfrenta un peligro aterrador, así como una verdad macabra que finalmente se revela. Los secretos que guarda serían demasiado para la reputación de su familia, y el Dr. Madsen podría hacer lo impensable para silenciarla para siempre. ¿Volverá a ayudarla alguien que ayudó a Alice en el pasado? ¿O su mente se perderá para siempre?

Al igual que sus predecesores, este número es bastante corto, pero se me hizo más extenso por la forma en que se desenvolvió todo. Pasan muchas cosas al mismo tiempo, cada una con su debido protagonismo, por lo que el panorama se va cargando de intriga, drama, y más aún, tensión que está por explotar en lo que puede ser un gran final.

El guión se ve sencillo a primera vista, pero una vez que terminas de leer te das cuenta de todo lo que está pasando, lo que habita en el interior de cada personaje. Además, siendo alguien que ha leído sobre historia victoriana, les puedo decir que lo que se pinta en este número no está alejado de la realidad en lo más mínimo. En realidad, es un retrato bastante acertado, lo cual lo hace aún más inquietante.

Hubo un giro de trama no muy convincente que me dejó con mal sabor en la boca, debo admitir. Fue bastante conveniente, una especie de Deux Ex Machina que, aunque aumenta la tensión otro poco, se ve poco natural en tan poco tiempo. Siento que las cosas hubieran sido más emocionantes, incluso más viscerales, de no haber incluido ese detalle.

Sin embargo, muchos de los elementos de Alice Ever After #4 la hacen una historia más que solo atractiva. Es atrapante. Es adictiva. Hay escenas que se adivinan tan pronto como se sugieren sin que eso minimice su efecto. Este equipo viene con algo fuerte en la próxima entrega, ¡y no puedo esperar para verlo!

What is that reading that made your hair stand on end? For me it was Alice Ever After #4, by Dan Panosian and Giorgio Spalletta. I read it last night before bed and was delighted with the story's evolution and development. It was one surprise after another, and although short, it was a very satisfying issue. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy in exchange for an honest review!

Alice, at the mercy of her father and Dr. Madsen, faces a terrifying danger, as well as a ghoulish truth that is finally revealed. The secrets she carries would be too much for her family's reputation, and Dr. Madsen could do the unthinkable to silence her forever. Will someone who's helped Alice in the past once again come to her aid? Or will her mind be lost forever?

Like its predecessors, this issue is fairly short, but it felt longer for me by the way it all unfolded. Many things happen at the same time, each one with its due prominence, so the panorama is loaded with intrigue, drama, and even more, tension that is about to explode in what could be a great ending.

The script looks simple at first glance, but once you finish reading you realize everything that is happening, what lives inside each character. Also, being someone who has read about Victorian history, I can tell you that what's painted in this issue is not far from reality in the slightest. Actually, it's a pretty accurate portrait, which makes it even more disturbing.

There was a not very convincing plot twist that left a bad taste in my mouth, I must admit. It was quite convenient, a kind of Deux Ex Machina that, although it increases the tension a little bit more, it looks unnatural in such a short time. I feel like things would have been more exciting, even more visceral, if I hadn't included that detail.

However, many of the elements of Alice Ever After #4 make it more than just an engaging story. It is catchy. It is addictive. There are scenes that are guessed as soon as they are suggested without minimizing their effect. This team is coming up with something strong in the next installment, and I can't wait to see it!
