Comic: Magical Boy (Serie)

Sigo probando cosas nuevas, y esta vez me aventuré con una historia al estilo Magical Girl. De niño vi varias series así, pero cuando vi un cómic que incluye el tema queer de una manera tan original y divertida, no pude dejarlo pasar. Se trata de Magical Boy, por The Kao. Me trajo muy buenos recuerdos, y creó otros más.

El primer volumen me enamoró en el acto. El arte, el guión, los diálogos, la dosis de realidad, junto con algunos giros de trama que no me esperaba. La esencia del género magical girl está allí, sentí que volví a ser un niño viendo animes en el cuarto, pero esta vez el niño y el adulto estaban juntos viendo algo que los dos podían disfrutar.

Sin embargo, el segundo libro me fascinó. Fue una aventura preciosa de principio a fin con momentos fuertes, importantes, diría que incluso impactantes. La historia es mucho más sólida, mejor desarrollada, los personajes crecen más de lo que me esperaba, y te lleva por sentimientos y experiencias difíciles con las que simpatizas desde el primer momento.

Hubo escenas que me parecieron demasiado suaves, muy idealizadas, y claro que hay clichés. Aunque los disfruté, siento que pudo haber quedado mejor sin esos elementos. No voy a dar spoilers, pero sí diré que el final del segundo libro es predecible. Se disfruta, te planta una sonrisa en la cara, y luego hay unas escenas que me encantaron, pero la pelea final, junto con su resultado, se veía venir.

En líneas generales, una historia hermosa con un arte que asombra. Los colores brillantes, personajes entrañables, la dosis de comedia cada vez que es necesaria, junto con experiencias tan reales que sientes como si fuesen las tuyas propias, Magical Boy es una bilogía de la que te enamoras en el acto y que no puedes soltar hasta que terminas de leerla. ¡Más historias así, por favor! 

I keep trying new things, and this time I ventured with a Magical Girl-esque story. As a child I watched several series like this, but when I saw a comic that included the queer theme in such an original and funny way, I couldn't let it go. It's Magical Boy, by The Kao. It brought back great memories, and created many more.

I fell in love with the first volume on the spot. The art, the script, the dialogues, the dose of reality, along with some plot twists that I didn't expect. The essence of the magical girl genre is there, I felt like I was a kid again watching anime in the room, but this time the kid and the adult were together watching something that both could enjoy.

However, the second book fascinated me. It was a beautiful adventure from start to finish with strong, important moments, I would even say shocking. The story is much stronger, better developed, the characters grow more than I expected, and it takes you through difficult feelings and experiences that you sympathize with from the first moment.

There were scenes that seemed too soft to me, too idealized, and of course there are clichés. Although I enjoyed them, I feel like it could have been better without those elements. I'm not going to give spoilers, but I will say that the ending of the second book is predictable. It's enjoyable, it puts a smile on your face, and then there are some scenes that I loved, but the final fight, along with its result, I saw it coming.

In general, a beautiful story with amazing art. Bright colors, endearing characters, a dose of comedy whenever it's needed, coupled with experiences so real you feel like your own, Magical Boy is a bilogy you fall in love with instantly and can't put down until that you finish reading it. More stories like this one, please!
