Hoy quiero hablarles de una nueva serie que me enganchó desde el primer capítulo: The Hunters Guild: Red Hood, de Yuki Kawaguchi. ¡Aprovechen ahora que está gratis en la web de VIZ Media!

La historia es bastante sencilla, y en parte me recuerda a La Chica de la Capa Roja, de Catherine Hardwicke, donde una aldea está siendo arrasada por un hombre lobo, por lo que el alcalde se ve obligado a recurrir a un gremio de cazadores especializados en exterminar todo tipo de monstruos. Conocemos a nuestros protagonistas, Velou, un joven que sueña con ser un cazador, y a Grimm, una cazadora con varias sorpresas debajo de la manga, sin mucha profundidad pero notando el potencial que hay en cada uno.
La historia avanzó muy rápido, al punto de que no me di cuenta de que había devorado todo el primer capítulo hasta que llegué casi al final. Aunque no hay muchas sorpresas y tiene los elementos clásicos de un manga shonen, Yuki Kawaguchi me dejó con un muy buen sabor en la boca con el primer capítulo de The Hunters Guild: Red Hood.
Tiene una dosis fuerte de acción, una aventura que se está preparando, suficiente tiempo para familiarizarse con los personajes, tener una buena idea de qué esperar de cada uno, y meterse por completo en este mundo que se nota fascinante desde ya. Diría que hizo falta algo que destacara por encima de una historia fácil de adivinar, aunque disfruté mucho con los guiños a la historia original de Caperucita Roja.
Muchos han celebrado el arte de Yuki Kawaguchi, con lo cual estoy completamente de acuerdo porque es un estilo precioso, pero siento que falta algo que lo haga diferente. Por ahora, The Hunters Guild: Red Hood es una apuesta segura que empezó muy bien, pero quiero ver algo mejor en los siguientes capítulos. Viniendo de alguien que ha trabajo con Kōhei Horikoshi para My Hero Academia, supomngo que será cuestión de tiempo para conocer mejor este manga. ¿Qué opinan ustedes?

The story is pretty straightforward, and in part reminds me of Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood, where a village's being ravaged by a werewolf, forcing the mayor to call on a guild of specialized hunters in exterminating all kinds of monsters. We meet our protagonists, Velou, a young man who dreams of being a hunter, and Grimm, a hunter with several surprises up her sleeve, without much depth but noting the potential that exists in each one.
The story progressed very quickly, to the point that I didn't realize that I had eaten up the entire first chapter until I was almost to the end. Although there are not many surprises and it has the classic elements of a shonen manga, Yuki Kawaguchi left me with a very good taste in my mouth with the first chapter of The Hunters Guild: Red Hood.
It has a strong dose of action, an adventure that's being prepared, enough time to familiarize yourself with the characters, have a good idea of what to expect from each one, and fully immerse yourself in this world that seems fascinating from now on. I'd say it lacked something that stood out above an easy-to-guess story, although I really enjoyed the nods to the original Little Red Riding Hood story.
Many have celebrated Yuki Kawaguchi's art, with which I completely agree because it is a beautiful style, but I feel that something is missing to make it different. For now, The Hunters Guild: Red Hood is a safe bet that got off to a great start, but I want to see something better in the next few chapters. Coming from someone who has worked with Kōhei Horikoshi for My Hero Academia, I suppose it will be a matter of time to get to know this manga better. What do you think?
