La sinopsis es bastante directa en cuanto al contenido de la historia. Nos encontramos con una protagonista que se convierte repentinamente en la portadora de poderes inimaginables, los cuales han sido codiciados por muchos a lo largo de la historia, un artefacto que la vuelve casi indestructible y que la protege de cualquier amenaza. Es un volumen cargado de acción, peleas y lealtades volátiles.

Considerando que este cómic empezó en 1995, el arte es más o menos decente (aunque la anatomía a veces es ignorada por completo) y el guión es bastante sólido. No voy a decir que no me costó seguirlo, porque sí es difícil sumergirse en la lectura porque tuve que hacer varias pausas, pero es un libro que se disfruta bastante una vez que te dejas llevar.

¿Qué problemas tuve, puntualmente? Que los saltos entre los capítulos son muy bruscos y el lector queda un poco a la deriva, por ejemplo, cuando Sara está en la selva al final de un capítulo y aparece en New York al inicio del siguiente, y no sabes cómo pasó eso. El arte también se queda corto para lo que uno está acostumbrado, principalmente por temas de anatomía y expresiones faciales, pero admito que el coloreado me gustó bastante. Vi en algún sitio que alguien se quejaba de los diálogos y el lettering, pero no fue mi caso. Estuvieron bien.

Siempre y cuando no se la compare con nuestras lecturas actuales, The Complete Witchblade Volume 1 es bastante disfrutable, una lectura entretenida y la bienvenida a un mundo legendario. Este cómic fácilmente habría impresionado a su público al momento de su publicación, y aunque la novedad se pierde un poco para lectores actuales, el encanto se mantiene intacto.

The synopsis is pretty straightforward in terms of the content of the story. We meet a protagonist who suddenly becomes the bearer of unimaginable powers, which have been coveted by many throughout history, an artifact that makes her almost indestructible and that protects her from any threat. It's a volume loaded with action, fights, and volatile loyalties.

Considering this comic started in 1995, the art is pretty much decent (though the anatomy is sometimes completely ignored) and the script is pretty solid. I'm not going to say that it wasn't difficult for me to follow it, because it is hard to immerse yourself in reading because I had to take several breaks, but it's a book that's quite enjoyed once you let yourself go.

What problems did I have, punctually? That the jumps between the chapters are very abrupt and the reader's a bit adrift, for example, when Sara's in the jungle at the end of one chapter and appears in New York at the beginning of the next, and you don't know how that happened. Art also falls short for what one is used to, mainly due to anatomy and facial expressions, but I admit that I liked the coloring a lot. I saw somewhere that someone was complaining about the dialogues and lettering, but it was not my case. They were good.

As long as it is not compared to our current readings, The Complete Witchblade Volume 1 is quite enjoyable, an entertaining read, and a welcoming to a legendary world. This comic would easily have impressed its audience upon publication, and while the novelty is somewhat lost for current readers, the allure remains intact.
