Hoy quiero romper un poco con el
tipo de reseñas que publico y hablarles de un libro que me pareció de lo más
curioso. Se trata de The Forgotten Past: An Eclectic Collection of Little Known Stories from the Annals of History, de Andrew Vinken. Este libro es perfecto para los amantes de
lo inusual, lo irreverente y lo curioso, ¡y sé que muchos de ustedes lo son!
Cada capítulo está dedicado a datos curiosos e historias
aparentemente carentes de importancia o que bien no han dado de que hablar en
mucho tiempo. Casos como el verdadero primer vuelo en la historia de la
humanidad, un niño que fue sepultado sin nombre, un hombre que se volvió
millonario vendiendo un país ficticio y hasta un cadáver exhibido como
atracción de circo. ¿Creo que ya capté su atención? Me parece que sí.
Andrew Vinken presenta una colección de historias tan
atractivas que es imposible creer que a pocos les puedan interesar, aunque
algunas sí han sido más relevantes de lo que pareciera. Su estilo humorístico y
sarcástico no hace sino sumergir al lector, volviéndolo adicto al mundo de
improbabilidades que se descubre página tras página.
Aunque bastante corto, The Forgotten Past es suficientemente llamativo como para hacer difícil no querer leer más. Bien podríamos decir que este
podría ser el inicio de una colección de historias inusuales, casos de la vida
real que dieron de qué hablar en su tiempo y misterios sin resolver. Es justo
el tipo de libro al que provoca hincarle el diente cuando la curiosidad ataca,
¡y vaya que vale la pena!
De verdad quiero leer algo más de Andrew Vinken. The Forgotten Past: An Eclectic Collection of Little Known Stories from the Annals of History me dejó con ganas de seguir leyendo y pensando en qué otros misterios
podrían estar esperando. ¡Estimado autor, espero una segunda parte!

Today I want to break a bit with the kind of reviews I publish and tell them about a book that I found most curious. This is The Forgotten Past: An Eclectic Collection of Little Known Stories from the Annals of History, by Andrew Vinken. This book is perfect for lovers of the unusual, the irreverent and the curious, and I know that many of you are!
Each chapter is devoted to curious facts and stories that seem to be unimportant or that they haven't given to talk in a long time. Cases like the real first flight in the history of mankind, a child who was buried without a name, a man who became a millionaire selling a fictional country and even a corpse exhibited as a circus attraction. Maybe I already got your attention? I think so.
Andrew Vinken presents a collection of stories so appealing that it's impossible to believe that few may be interested in them, although some have been more relevant than it seems. His humorous and sarcastic style only immerses the reader, making them addicted to the world of improbability that is discovered page after page.
Although quite short, The Forgotten Past is striking enough to make it difficult not to want to read more. We could well say that this could be the beginning of a collection of unusual stories, real-life cases that gave what to talk about in their time and unsolved mysteries. It is just the kind of book you want to gift yourelf when curiosity strikes, and it's worth it!
I really want to read something else from Andrew Vinken. The Forgotten Past: An Eclectic Collection of Little Known Stories from the Annals of History left me wanting to keep reading and thinking about what other mysteries might be waiting for. Dear author, I await for a second part!
