Una nueva versión de un formato clásico, Bad Dreams in the Night es una versión actualizada e ilustrada de las antologías de terror con las que el autor creció cuando era niño, como Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark y In a Dark, Dark Room. Estas historias independientes ganaron rápidamente popularidad entre la audiencia en línea del autor e incluso inspiraron la producción de una película de Buzzfeed Studios y Lionsgate Films. Lleno de historias de misterio y sucesos sobrenaturales escalofriantes y trepidantes, este libro de cómics nunca antes vistos será el regalo perfecto para las personas que aman Black Mirror y Stranger Things y escucharon podcasts como Welcome to Nightvale y Rabbits.

¡Fue una lectura divertida! Aunque no crecí con los programas mencionados, sí vi Courage the Cowardly Dog y Beetlejuice, y a veces también vi Happy Tree Friends cuando mis padres no estaban presentes. Este libro me llevó a esos tiempos en los que me quedaba despierto hasta tarde sólo para ver otro episodio y ver qué más podía encontrar, y casi no tenía pesadillas a causa de ellos. Tanto el arte como el estilo de escritura me hicieron sentir como un baby-bat nuevamente.

Al ser un cómic, obviamente hay mucho énfasis en el aspecto gráfico, pero la escritura también es sólida. Es refrescante, original y con muchos giros que no te esperas. Si bien me hizo desear que algunas historias fueran más largas, porque "Hangnail" y "The Green Ribbon" eran demasiado buenas para ser tan breves, tiene su encanto que sean shocks rápidos.

Sin embargo, algunas de las historias no eran de la misma calidad. "Batter Kate than Never" y "Me and Evangeline at the Farm", por ejemplo, me dejaron con un sabor agridulce después de terminarlas. También había algo extraño en las expresiones faciales en varias de las historias, como si los personajes no supieran qué hacer con sus caras o cómo reaccionar a veces.

Sin embargo, es una lectura que enamora por su encanto original. Adictivo y creativo, es un tributo a las historias con las que crecimos los fanáticos del terror. Si bien Adam Ellis tiene un estilo artístico definido, lo adapta para combinar con las diferentes narrativas, dándole a cada uno de los cómics un sabor distinto. Si quieren sentirse como ese niño raro y con inclinaciones oscuras una vez más, esta es la opción perfecta.

After reading so much romance, I needed a break from the genre. These self-contained stories grew rapidly in popularity among the author's online audience, and even inspired production of a motion picture from Buzzfeed Studios and Lionsgate Films. Filled with spine-tingling, pulse-increasing tales of mystery and supernatural occurrences, this book of never-before-seen comics will be the perfect gift for people who love Black Mirror and Stranger Things and listened to podcasts like Welcome to Nightvale and Rabbits.

This was a fun read! Although I didn't grow up with the shows mentioned, I did watch Courage the Cowardly Dog and Beetlejuice, sometimes also watching Happy Tree Friends when my parents were not around. This book took me back to those times when I stayed up late just to catch another episode and see what else I could find, and hardly got nightmares because of them. Both the art and writing style made me feel like a baby-bat again.

Being a comic book, there's obviously a lot of highlight on the graphic aspect, but the writing is also strong. It's refreshing, original, and with a lot of twists that you don't expect. While it left me wishing some stories were longer, because "Hangnail" and "The Green Ribbon" were just too good to stay this short, there's a charm in them being quick shocks.

Some of the stories were not of the same quality, however. "Batter Kate than Never" and "Me and Evangeline at the Farm", for example, left me with a bittersweet taste afterward. There was also something strange about facial expressions in several of the stories, as if the characters didn't know what to do with their faces or how to react sometimes.

However, it's a reading you fall in love with because of its original charm. Addictive and creative, it's a tribute to the stories we horror fans grew up with. While Adam Ellis has a definite art style, he adapts it to fit different narrratives, giving each of the comics a distinct flavor. If you want to feel like that weird, darkly-inclined child one more time, this is the perfect option.
