Perdonen la ausencia, he estado trabajando en algunos proyectos lo cual me ha quitado bastante tiempo para leer, pero hay un libro que terminé recientemente y que me dio varias sorpresas, más que todo recomendaciones de libros y películas sobre asesinos seriales. ¿Interesados? Los crímenes depravados de asesinos en serie y asesinos en serie, tanto reales como imaginarios, nos han paralizado durante mucho tiempo en periódicos y libros, pero tal vez en ninguna parte más que en la pantalla grande. Películas como El Silencio de los Corderos, Psicosis y Henry: Retrato de un Asesino en Serie no solo han llegado a grandes audiencias, sino que también nos han permitido entrar en las mentes de las personas más perturbadas de la sociedad. Christopher Berry-Dee habla con los asesinos en serie cuyas historias perversas nos han emocionado y fascinado más en el cine y, a través de entrevistas inquietantes y de gran alcance, cuenta las historias de los asesinos en serie que sirvieron de inspiración para algunas de las películas más impactantes del cine. Serial Killers at the Movies lleva al lector a un viaje incómodo y verdaderamente oscuro hacia un mundo aterrador de asesinatos y desviaciones.

La idea del libro me parece bastante atractiva, y los comentarios que hace el autor me parecen muy certeros. Te hace ver las cosas desde otro punto de vista, además de que examina los orígenes de las películas en sí, ofreciendo una mirada interesante en temas de producción, guión, incluso en los efectos que tuvieron algunas al momento de llegar a las pantallas.

Christopher Berry-Dee hace un repaso no solo por las películas más conocidas sino también por otras con las que quizá el lector no se haya topado, y compara bastante bien el material ficticio con los hechos que los inspiraron. Los capítulos cortos junto con el estilo sencillo hace que la lectura sea muy rápida y de fácil disfrute.

Hubo algunas veces en que me molestó que mencionara tanto su libro Talking with Serial Killers, lo cual puedo entender porque así los lectores pueden ampliar la información, además de que le restaría muchos puntos a este libro tener la misma información que su predecesor. Sin embargo, me desanimó que esto fuese tan constante, y que algunos capítulos no tuvieran el mismo nivel de detalle que los primeros.

Si bien es cierto que Serial Killers at the Movies fue una lectura muy buena y entretenida, sí hubiese preferido que Christopher Berry-Dee hubiese entrado en más detalles en los capítulos que quedaron más débiles a comparación. Sin embargo, es una lectura que te hiela la sangre, te sorprende, y te hace ver lo más retorcido de la mente humana, sirviendo como punto de incio para más lecturas sobre asesinos seriales.

The idea of ​​the book seems quite attractive to me, and the comments made by the author seem very accurate. It makes you see things from another point of view, in addition to examining the origins of the films themselves, offering an interesting look at production issues, script, even the effects that some had when they hit the screens.

Christopher Berry-Dee reviews not only the best-known films but also others that the reader may not have come across, and compares the fictional material quite well with the events that inspired them. The short chapters along with the simple style make reading very quick and easy to enjoy.

There were a few times when it bothered me that he mentioned his book Talking with Serial Killers so much, which I can understand because that way readers can expand the information, plus it would take a lot from this book to have the same information as its predecessor. However, it discouraged me that this was so constant, and that some chapters didn't have the same level of detail as the first ones.

While it is true that Serial Killers at the Movies was a very good and entertaining read, I would have preferred that Christopher Berry-Dee had gone into more detail in the chapters that were weaker in comparison. However, it is a read that chills your blood, surprises you, and makes you see the most twisted parts of the human mind, serving as a starting point for more readings on serial killers.
