Esta es una reseña que me emociona hacer. Hace poco gané un concurso organizado por una autora a la que respeto muchísimo por lo organizada, creativa, y prolífica que es. Además, es una autora latina, y tenía mucho tiempo sin leer a alguien de latinoamérica. Se trata de Entrégate al océano, por Nathalia Tórtora.

Cuando Lirio es atrapada como polizón en la bodega de un navío, está segura de que será asesinada y arrojada al océano; después de todo, las mujeres tienen prohibido subir a bordo de cualquier clase de embarcación. Sin embargo, antes de que el capitán pueda arrebatarle la vida, una extraña melodía comienza a sonar alrededor del barco. Llega desde todos lados y desde ninguno al mismo tiempo... o, quizá, proviene de las profundidades.
La
historia es bastante original. Nunca había leído algo con piratas, así que esta
fue una buena bienvenida al tema por lo fácil de seguir que fue. Si están en la
misma situación que yo, es un libro perfecto para dar esos primeros pasos y entrar
en confianza.
Nath tiene
un estilo sencillo pero descriptivo que te ayuda a imaginar todo. El ritmo
tiene sus subibajas dependiendo de lo que necesite la historia. Su estilo
también se adapta, desde literal a poético, de ligero a gráfico, y lo hace con una
elegancia envidiable. Más de una vez me quedé embobado leyendo sus
descripciones y algunos diálogos.
Se supone
que la colección es de historias cortas, así que no diré nada sobre ello. Sin
embargo, sí hubiera preferido ver alguna representación masculina positiva en
la historia. El final da algunos toques que me dejaron más conforme, pero no es
lo mismo. Se trata de una tendencia de la que hablaré más adelante, pero que está
bien usada aquí.
Entrégate al océano es una historia de fantasía social feminista que reinventa las supersticiones
de siglos pasados para crear una trama atrapante que no te suelta hasta
terminar de leer. Es una historia simple difícil de olvidar por su prosa, sus
imágenes, y su mensaje. ¡No puedo esperar a leer algo más de Nathi!

When Lirio is trapped as a stowaway in the hold of a ship, she is certain that she will be killed and thrown into the ocean; after all, women are prohibited from boarding any kind of vessel. However, before the captain can take his life, a strange tune begins to play around the ship. It comes from everywhere and nowhere at the same time... or, perhaps, it comes from the depths.
The story is quite original. I had never read anything with pirates, so this was a nice welcome to the topic because of how easy it was to follow. If you are in the same situation as me, it is a perfect book to take those first steps and gain confidence.
Nath has a simple but descriptive style that helps you imagine everything. The pace has its ups and downs depending on what the story needs. Her style also adapts, from literal to poetic, from light to graphic, and she does it with enviable elegance. More than once I was stunned reading her descriptions and some dialogues.
The collection is supposed to be short stories, so I won't say anything about it. However, I would have preferred to see some positive male representation in the story. The ending gives some touches that left me more satisfied, but it's not the same. It's a trend that I will talk about later, but that is well used here.
Entrégate al océano is a feminist social fantasy story that reinvents the superstitions of centuries past to create a compelling plot that won't let you go until you finish reading. It's a simple story that is hard to forget because of its prose, its images, and its message. I can't wait to read more from Nathi!
