Manhwa: The Horizon, Vol. 1

Luego de leer mi primer libro por esta editorial, decidí aventurarme con un título más experimental, más artístico y visualmente prometedor. Había visto algunas imágenes por internet para tener una mejor idea, pero aún así no estaba preparado para la experiencia que sería leer The Horizon, Vol. 1, por JH. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

Un mundo donde todo se ha perdido. Un niño y una niña solos juntos. Lo único que pueden hacer es seguir adelante. Pero frente a los adultos destrozados y la desesperación devastadora, ¿cuánto tiempo podrán seguir adelante...?

Al principio me pareció que la sinopsis no decía mucho, que dejaba muchos cabos sueltos, pero la realidad es otra. Resulta que explica muy bien de qué va este manga, que es una historia postapocalíptica en donde dos niños tratan de sobrevivir. Sin embargo, lo que no nos dice, es que es una experiencia en la que te sumerges por completo.

El arte es el que se lleva el estrellato en este primer volumen, que además de creativo también es experimental, apostando por un estilo en donde el foco a veces está en el paisaje y a veces en los personajes. Esto hizo que la lectura se mantuviera interesante de principio a fin porque no solo se trataba de saber lo que les pasaba a los personajes si no de sentir también lo que experimentaban.

Sí es cierto que me hubiese gustado más desarrollo en lo que al guión respecta y que no hubiese tanto énfasis en el arte. Hubo un momento en que sentí que la historia no estaba avanzando del todo, aunque lo inmersivo de la lectura se mantuvo en todo momento. Sin embargo, el final le dio un toque de drama bastante efectivo para crear interés en el siguiente volumen.

En pocas palabras, una historia de horror psicológico que te atrapa de principio a fin. El arte combina con el tono oscuro de la historia, dándole una sensación opresiva que juega a favor. Es una historia sencilla, pero con ideas claras, escenas que te impactan, y más de un giro de trama que fue imposible de prever. Definitivamente recomendable para amantes del terror ligero.

At first it seemed to me that the synopsis did not say much, that it left many loose ends, but the reality is different. It turns out that it explains very well what this manga is about, which is a post-apocalyptic story where two children try to survive. What it doesn't tell us, however, is that it's an experience in which you are completely immersed.

Art is what takes center stage in this first volume, which in addition to being creative is also experimental, betting on a style where the focus is sometimes on the landscape and sometimes on the characters. This kept the reading interesting from beginning to end because it was not only about knowing what was happening to the characters but also feeling what they experienced.

It is true that I would have liked more development in terms of the script and that there was not so much emphasis on art. There was a moment when I felt that the story was not progressing at all, although the immersion of the reading was maintained at all times. However, the ending gave it a touch of drama quite effective in creating interest in the next volume.

In short, a psychological horror story that grips you from start to finish. The art matches the dark tone of the story, giving it an oppressive feel that works in its favor. It's a simple story, but with clear ideas, scenes that impact you, and more than one plot twist that was impossible to foresee. Definitely recommended for lovers of light horror.
