Manga: Acid Town Vol. 1

Hace poco leí un manga que me sorprendió bastante. No suelo leer historias de mafias y crimen organizado porque normalmente no me gustan, pero esta tiene un componente social que me llamó mucho la atención. Resulta que la disfruté más de lo que esperaba: Acid Town, Volume 1, por Kyugo. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar!

En una ciudad donde reina la anarquía, Yuki y su mejor amigo Tetsu intentan robar la sede del Seidoukai local para robar dinero y pagar la factura del hospital del hermano pequeño de Yuki. La misión es un fracaso, pero despierta el interés del jefe de la mafia Kazutaka Hyodo. Le ofrece un trato a Yuki; Ven a visitarlo una vez por semana y él se hará cargo de los honorarios de su hermano. Yuki acepta este acuerdo sin dudarlo y así hace su primera visita...

Admito que las primeras páginas fueron un poco confusas. No estoy seguro si fue porque había varios personajes a la vez o que el ritmo no era el mejor para mí, pero sentí que me perdía de algo importante. Algo no funcionaba, pero seguí leyendo porque tenía curiosidad por saber qué pasaría con Yuki y Tetsu.

Después de eso, el tiempo pasó y ni siquiera me di cuenta. El guión está muy bien hecho y con giros colocados exactamente donde deben estar para mantenerte atento e interesado. Me gustó que los personajes no fueran sólo lo que parecían al principio; hay más que los define que sus circunstancias.

Sí creo que el comienzo podría haber sido mejor, y que el ritmo flaqueó un poco aquí y allá, pero no hubo ningún problema importante que afectara la lectura. Hubo momentos que me sacaron de la lectura porque no estoy muy familiarizado con el género, así que fue más una cuestión personal que un problema o un defecto del libro.

Acid Town, Volume 1 es una lectura sencilla que lleva tu mente a un lugar diferente donde las cosas no son lo que parecen, donde la familia y la amistad están a punto de ser puestos a prueba, y con un arte impecable que ayuda a la inmersión. Estoy ansioso por ver qué pasa con estos chicos y cómo evolucionan las cosas. ¡Hay mucho potencial aquí!

I recently read a manga that really surprised me. I don't usually read stories about mafias and organized crime because I usually don't like them, but this one has a social component that caught my attention. Turns out I enjoyed it more than I expected: Acid Town, Volume 1, by Kyugo. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy!

The mission is a failure, but piques the interest of mob boss Kazutaka Hyodo. He offers Yuki a deal; come to visit him once a week, and he'll take care of his brother's fees. Yuki accepts this arrangement without question, and so makes his first visit...

I admit that the first pages were a bit confusing. I’m not sure if it was because there were several characters at once, or that the pace wasn’t the best for me, but I felt that I was missing something important. Something wasn’t working, but I still read because I was curious about what would happen with Yuki and Tetsu.

After that, time passed me by, and I didn’t even realize. The script is very well done and with twists placed exactly where they need to be to keep you attentive and interested. I liked that the characters were not just what they seemed to be at the beginning there’s more to define them than their circumstances.

I do think the beginning could have been better, and that the pace faltered a bit here and there, but there wasn’t any major issue that affected the reading. There moments that took me out of the reading because I’m not that familiar with the genre, so it was more of a personal issue than a problem or a flaw in the book.

Acid Town, Volume 1 is a simple reading that takes your mind to a different place where things are not what they seem to be, where family and friendship are about to be tested, and with flawless art that helps with the immersion. I’m eager to see what happens with these boys and how things evolve. There’s a lot of potential here!
