Hoy quería retomar las reseñas musicales que he dejado para después porque muchas razones, y quería poder dedicarle tiempo a este proyecto tan interesante que está llevando un tal Daniel Graves. Dice la leyenda que ha sacado una canción nueva todo los meses, y hoy quiero hablarles sobre Dead Zone, por Aesthetic Perfection.

Entonces, ¿qué hay detrás de este sencillo? Daniel Graves lo cuenta de manera sencilla y directa:
“Dead Zone” es la cuarta entrega de mi proyecto de 12 canciones en 12 meses. Inspirado en la música de mi juventud, "Dead Zone" es una mezcla de onda sintética alternativa y moderna de los 90. Un breakbeat arenoso proporciona la columna vertebral para arpegios sinuosos, sintetizadores arremolinados y voces altísimas. Narra mis luchas personales con la salud mental y el deseo de cambiar para mejor. El single incluye un remix del prometedor productor francés SIERRA.
Es un tema que extrañamente es lento pero de ritmo pesado. La letra es directa, derrotista, de esas que hablan de manera clara y cruda sobre lo que siente tener depresión y estar tan cansando de luchar que solo quieres dejarte caer. El ritmo atmosferico que hipnotiza los sentidos está muy bien logrado, mucho más en la remix de SIERRA.
La voz de Graves es un instrumento más que combina con todo el fondo musical. Lejos de ser manipulada o modificada de alguna manera, Graves canta con los sentimientos a flor de piel durante todo el tema. Dead Zone es de esos sencillos honestios que amas desde la primera reproducción.
Hubiese preferido una letra un poco más elaborada, quizá más extensa, que dejara ver más sobre los sentimientos que ha sentido Daniel Graves durante sus momentos más depresivos, pero el foco en la música es bastante claro y creo que cada persona que escuche el tema va a tener una idea muy cercana. A veces menos es más, lo cual está perfecto, pero solo es cuestión de preferencias en este caso.

So, what's behind this single? Daniel Graves tells it in a simple and direct way:
“Dead Zone” is the fourth installment of my 12 songs in 12 months project. Inspired by the music of my youth, “Dead Zone” is a blend of 90’s Alternative and modern synthwave. A gritty breakbeat provides the backbone for winding arpeggios, swirling synths and soaring vocals. It chronicles my personal struggles with mental health and desire to change for the better. The single includes a remix by up and coming French producer SIERRA.
It's a song that is strangely slow but heavy paced. The lyrics are direct, defeatist, the kind that speak clearly and crudely about what it feels like to have depression and to be so tired of fighting that you just want to drop. The atmospheric rhythm that hypnotizes the senses is very well achieved, much more so in the SIERRA remix.
The voice of Graves is one more instrument that combines with the entire musical background. Far from being manipulated or modified in any way, Graves sings with feelings on the surface throughout the song. Dead Zone is one of those honest singles that you love from the first play.
I would have preferred slightly more elaborate, perhaps longer, lyrics that reveal more about the feelings that Daniel Graves has felt during his most depressive moments, but the focus on the music is quite clear and I think that each person who listens to the song will to have a very close idea. Sometimes less is more, which is fine, but it's just a matter of preference in this case.
