Manga: He's Expecting Vol. 1

Hola, gente bonita. Ha pasado un tiempo. Estaba poniendo muchas cosas en orden, sin embargo, tuve la oportunidad de seguir leyendo, y hay un manga que no esperaba que me gustara tanto por la realidad que presenta. Está relacionado con temas contemporáneos (llamados complicados), pero presentados de una manera tan simple que te hace pensar. Cuando Kentaro Hiyama, un hombre con mentalidad profesional, descubre que está embarazado, cambiará el curso de algo más que su propia vida. En el Japón del experimento mental de Eri Sakai, han pasado diez años desde que el sexo masculino obtuvo espontáneamente la capacidad de quedar embarazado, y la sociedad ha luchado por adaptarse. Kentaro al principio no está seguro de quién podría ser la madre y rápidamente se encuentra chocando con actitudes regresivas y políticas discriminatorias, la mayoría de las cuales preceden mucho al embarazo masculino. En su vida anterior, nunca había pensado dos veces en nada de eso; es posible que incluso hubiera tenido los mismos puntos de vista. Pero a través de sus encuentros con otras personas embarazadas, y motivado por su nueva perspectiva, Kentaro convierte sus habilidades en negocios y marketing para lograr cambios sociales.

Este es un manga divertido que habla sobre misoginia, embarazos no deseados, estándares dobles, etc. Sin embargo, lo hace desde un lugar de empoderamiento y trabajo social. Algunos de los temas son difíciles, pero si bien se tratan como tales, no hay tanto pesimismo como cabría esperar. A veces parece un poco idealista, pero sin duda es una lectura reconfortante.

Mi aspecto favorito fue el guión simple pero creativo. En el camino conocemos nuevos personajes con Kentaro, a quienes conoce o influye. Llegas a ver diferentes aspectos de este nuevo embarazo masculino y cómo afecta la vida diaria de varias personas sin importar su género. ¡Aún mejor es el hecho de que no te confunde!

La única queja que tengo es que apenas hubo construcción del mundo. Hubo algunas escenas que me hicieron pensar más seriamente en este escenario, ofrecieron una visión más profunda y detallada de todo, pero fueron tan pocas que no terminé tan inmerso en la lectura como quería. Espero, sin embargo, que los próximos volúmenes sean mucho mejores.

Yo recomendaría He's Expecting Vol. 1 a todo aquel que quiera explorar más profundamente qué significa ser hombre, mujer, los roles de género, nuestra misoginia interiorizada, pero aún así quiera pasar un rato divertido con una lectura sana. Este manga tiene lo mejor de ambos mundos, con un potencial educativo increíble que podría ayudar a mucha gente. Creativo, entretenido, y atractivo. ¡No puedo esperar al próximo volumen!

Hi, beautiful people. It's been a while. I was putting a lot of stuff in order, however, I got the chance to keep reading, and there's a manga I didn't expect to like so much for the reality that it presented. It's related to contemporary (so-called complicated) topics, but introduced in such a simple way that it makes you think. When career-minded Kentaro Hiyama finds out that he's pregnant, it will change the course of more than just his own life. In the Japan of Eri Sakai's thought experiment, ten years have passed since the male sex has spontaneously gained the ability to get pregnant, and society has struggled to adjust. Kentaro isn't sure at first who the mother might be, and quickly finds himself butting up against regressive attitudes and discriminatory policies-most of which long precede male pregnancy. In his previous life, he'd never given any of it a second thought-he may have even held the same views. But through his encounters with other pregnant people, and galvanized by his new perspective, Kentaro turns his skills in business and marketing to effecting social change.

This is a funny manga that speaks about misogyny, unwanted pregnancies, double standards, and so on. However, it does it from a place of empowerment and social work. Some of the topics are hard, but while they're treated as such, there's not that much doom and gloom that you would expect. It does seem a bit idealistic at times, but it is a comfort reading for sure.

My favorite aspect of it was the simple, yet creative script. We get to meet new characters along the way with Kentaro that he either meets or influences. You get to see different aspects of this new male pregnancy and how it affects the daily life of several people regardless of their gender. Even better is the fact that you don't get confused!

The only complain that I have is that there was hardly any world-building. There were a few scenes that made me think more seriously about this scenario, they offered a more in-depth, detailed view of everything, but they were so few I didn't ended up as immersed in the reading as I wanted to. I'm hoping, however, that the next volumes are much better.

I would recommend He's Expecting Vol. 1 to anyone who wants to explore more deeply what it means to be a man, a woman, gender roles, our internalized misogyny, but still want to have a fun time with a wholesome reading. This manga has the best of both worlds, with an incredible educational potential that could help a lot of people. Creative, entertaining, and engaging. Can't wait for the next volume!
