One by One, de D.W.
Happy Friday, Nighters! I hope you are having a good time and already have plans for the weekend.
This week I was reading a horror story that caught my attention. The sole synopsis tells us that the Easton family, who have just moved to an unusual house because of its erratic structure, begins to experience sudden mood swings, but it doesn't end here.
Alice Easton, the ten-year-old girl, seems to have an idea of what's happening, and she's sure that it isn't something from this world. Armed with Mary's diary, the girl who died years ago in that same house, Alice tries to keep her family members from disappearing.
Interesting, don't you think? One by One, by D. W. Gillespie is a story with a slightly slow start, but with scenes that make reading more interesting. The author's style is full of descriptions that transported me to the Easton house more than once.
Although the characters didn't seem entirely credible at some times (there are two specific scenes which I have serious problems with; nobody in their right mind would act like this, but I prefer not to give details to avoid spoilers), Alice and Debra became my favorites, along with Mary. *wink, wink*
D.W. Gillespie creates a chilling atmosphere and blurs the line between the paranormal and the mysterious. I had a big surprise at the end of One by One, a plot twist that I didn't see coming, and that I loved. Rarely does the author take you off guard, and Gillespie did it successfully. Although I ended up with a strange taste due to the development, I will definitely read another book by the author in the future.
