Good morning, Nighters. I hope that everyone is very well. I spent more days without any internet, so I was focused on reading and correcting. ^^ 'I'm going to fill you with reviews these days, and I'll start today with the story of a cursed prince. It's about The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty's Prince, by Serena Valentino, where we meet the Enchantress, named Circe in this book, one of my favorite Disney witches.
- Publishing Date: July 22nd 2014
- Publisher: Disney Press
- Saga: Villains #2
- Print Length: 215 pages
- Genres: Retelling, Fantasy, Adventure, Children, Young Adult
- Should it be translated into Spansih? Yes
A cursed prince sits alone in a secluded castle. Few have seen him, but those who claim they have say his hair is wild and nails are sharp--like a beast's! But how did this prince, once jovial and beloved by the people, come to be a reclusive and bitter monster? And is it possible that he can ever find true love and break the curse that has been placed upon him?
The story is way much simpler than I expected, and there were several twists as I got to the end. It surprised me how dark and gloomy it became with every chapter, giving me the vibes of those old Gothic ghost stories. If you want a creepy reading about sin and redemption, this one is for you!
What I liked the most was to see the Prince being transformed into his true self, his slow descent into madness, solitude and wrath. There were several scenes in the movie that are way more different now that we know his side of the story, what his true intentions were, and even that ending that I never liked has an explanation.
Serena Valentino not only gave him a voice but a life of his own. Her charming style made of this character more than just a monster, she turned him into our own reflection, the image of our fears, regrets and flaws. Who hasn't been selfish and cruel? Who hasn't been mean and heartless? Serena knows this and made a very human character that almost lost it all due to his mistakes and gave the little he had left in his quest for forgiveness.
The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty's Prince seems to be the lightest novel of all because of its end, although it doesn't stop it from being dark. It creates an atmosphere that makes anyone's hair stand on end, but with very valuable teachings that we all better remember from time to time, preferably without four witch sisters involved.
