Buen día, Nocturnos. Espero que estén bien. ^^ Pase estos días poniéndome al día con las lecturas, y hay un libro al que le tenía muchas ganas. Tiene una dosis muy ligera de fantasía y aventura, pero es una historia de suspenso medieval que les va a gustar mucho. Se trata de The Ghosts of Sherwood de Carrie Vaughn, el primero en la saga The Robin Hood Stories. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Quiero que todos tomemos un momento para admirar esa preciosura de portada. ¿Listo? ¿La apreciaron? Bien, pues le hace justicia a la historia que precede. Es una novela bastante corta que se lee en nada de tiempo, pero que tiene giros creativos y personajes muy atractivos. Mary es digna hija de Robin, y tanto ella como sus hermanos tienen sus trucos.

Me gustó mucho el estilo de la autora, directo, sencillo, pero decorado para crear una atmósfera de encanto. ¡Incluso hay varias partes con inglés arcaico para darle un aire más interesante a la historia! Está todo muy bien cuidado y te sumerges de lleno una vez que empiezas a leer. Sí me pareció que el rimo era demasiado rápido en algunas parte de la lectura porque pasan varias cosas al mismo tiempo; fue lo único que me pareció raro.

Admito que tenía mis dudas porque no soy tan fanático de Robin Hood, pero la sinopsis me convenció y la historia más aún. El final no un cliffhanger pero es lo suficientemente abierto como para aventurarse a pensar qué pasará luego. Prácticamente te lo imaginas, pero conociendo a los hijos del famoso arquero, luego de leer este libro, es difícil estar seguros.

¡Son chicos ingeniosos, estos tres! Tan pronto como surge una oportunidad es fácil darse cuenta de que cada uno tiene lo suyo y de que conocen el poder de las leyendas y los mitos. Me pareció que John se quedó un poco atrás de sus hermanas, incluso siendo el hermano del medio, pero estoy seguro de que veremos más de él más adelante. The Ghosts of Sherwood es una historia que te encanta de principio a fin con sus personajes, su trama y su estilo. ¡Muy, muy buena!

Good morning, Nighters. I hope you are well. ^^ I spent these days catching up on the readings, and there's a book I really wanted to get started with. It has a very light dose of fantasy and adventure, but it's a medieval suspense story that you are going to like very much. This is Carrie Vaughn's The Ghosts of Sherwood, the first in The Robin Hood Stories saga. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

Carrie Vaughn's The Ghosts of Sherwood revisits the Robin Hood legend with a story of the famed archer's children. Everything about Father is stories. Robin of Locksley and his one true love, Marian, are married. It has been close on two decades since they beat the Sheriff of Nottingham with the help of a diverse band of talented friends. King John is now on the throne, and Robin has sworn fealty in order to further protect not just his family, but those of the lords and barons who look up to him – and, by extension, the villagers they protect. There is a truce. An uneasy one, to be sure, but a truce, nonetheless. But when the Locksley children are stolen away by persons unknown, Robin and Marian are going to need the help of everyone they’ve ever known, perhaps even the ghosts that are said to reside deep within Sherwood. And the Locksley children, despite appearances to the contrary, are not without tricks of their own…

I want us all to take a moment to admire that gorgeous cover art. Done? Did you appreciate it? Well, it does justice to the story it precedes. It's a fairly short novel that can be read in no time, but it has creative twists and very attractive characters. Mary is Robin's worthy daughter, and both she and her siblings have their tricks.

I really liked the author's style, direct, simple, but decorated to create an atmosphere of charm. There are even several parts with archaic English to give a more interesting air to the story! Everything is very well cared for and you are fully immersed once you start reading. I did think that the rhyme was too fast in some parts of the reading because several things happen at the same time; that was the only thing that seemed strange to me.

I admit I had my doubts because I'm not such a fan of Robin Hood, but the synopsis convinced me and the story even more. The ending is not a cliffhanger but it's open enough to venture to think what will happen next. You practically imagine it, but knowing the children of the famous archer, after reading this book, it is difficult to be sure.

They are ingenious ones, these three! As soon as an opportunity arises it's easy to see that everyone has their own thing and know the power of legends and myths. It seemed to me that John fell a bit behind his sisters, even being the middle brother, but I'm sure we'll see more of him later. The Ghosts of Sherwood is a story that you love from beginning to end because of its characters, plot, and style. Very, very good!
