Ya les dije que estaba leyendo poesía. Hoy les digo que hubo un libro que me encantó. Con Choking Back the Devil, de Donna Lynch, descubrí que lo mío es la poesía de horror. El tiempo se me pasó volando, me encantó la mayoría de los poemas, y en definitiva quedé con ganas de más. Siento que esto es justo lo que he estado buscando.

Choking Back the Devil de Donna Lynch es una invocación, una antigua invitación que convoca a la oscuridad interior y canaliza a esos espíritus solitarios que buscan un anfitrión. Es una colección que vive en el reino de los fantasmas y las maldiciones familiares, la brujería y las leyendas urbanas, y si eres lo suficientemente valiente como para mirar detrás del velo, las apariciones que impregnan estas páginas romperán sellos y abrirán puertas, cortarán gargantas y romperán espejos.

Admito que no tenía ni idea de que algo como esto podía existir, pero me alegra haberme topado con ello. Se me ocurrió buscar recomendaciones de poesía gótica, y este estaba entre los recomendados. Me enganchó desde la primera página, fue algo así como amor a primera vista. Si ya la poesía se lee rápido, este libro se me fue en un suspiro.

Hay contenido gráfico de diferentes niveles, descripciones que pueden ponerte la piel de punta o de plano darte escalofríos, junto con otros poemas que son más historias o relatos en forma de verso. Es una colección que se disfruta con gusto, de esas que no quieres que se acaben por lo bien que lo estás pasando.

Ese es justamente mi problema principal. Lo breve. Hay algunos textos que no funcionaron del todo para mí, que parecían forzados, artificiales, sin la pasión que había en los demás, especialmente el último, que no me convenció. Terminé con un sabor un tanto agridulce por ello. Siento que de haber sido más extenso, el resultado habría sido mucho mejor.

En conclusión, una lectura para las noches en vela, perfecta para hacerte amigo de tus pesadillas y hablarles de tu día. Choking Back the Devil es un libro diferente, lleno de sorpresas que Donna Lynch ha disfrutado de crear. Pienso que incluso podría leerlo de nuevo para revivir la magia de esa primera vez, yo que no releo nunca.

Time flew by, I loved most of the poems, and ultimately left me wanting more. I feel like this is just what I've been looking for.

Choking Back the Devil by Donna Lynch is an invocation, an ancient invitation that summons the darkness within and channels those lonely spirits looking for a host. It's a collection that lives in the realm of ghosts and family curses, witchcraft and urban legends, and if you're brave enough to peek behind the veil, the hauntings that permeate these pages will break seals and open doorways, cut throats and shatter mirrors.

I admit I had no idea something like this could exist, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It occurred to me to look for gothic poetry recommendations, and this was among the recommended ones. I was hooked from the first page, it was like love at first sight. If poetry is already read quickly, this book left me in a breath.

There's graphic content of different levels, descriptions that can give you goosebumps or downright chills, along with other poems that are more stories or narratives in verse form. It's a collection that's a pleasure to enjoy, one of those that you don't want to end because of how much fun you're having.

That's exactly my main problem. The brevity. There are some texts that didn't quite work for me, that seemed forced, artificial, without the passion that there was in the others, especially the last one, which didn't convince me. I ended up with a bit of a bittersweet taste because of it. I feel that if it had been more extensive, the result would have been much better.

In conclusion, a read for sleepless nights, perfect for making friends with your nightmares and telling them about your day. Choking Back the Devil is a different book, full of surprises that Donna Lynch has enjoyed creating. I think I could even read it again to relive the magic of that first time, me who never rereads.
